Shock Talk

Shockers everywhere, at events long ago to happenings just the other day, always have something interesting to say. Take this sampling as a Shock Talk example:

“Between Joel Grey, my parents and a nun, I found the strange and often contradictory notion of the artist, the excitement of live performance coupled with a solitary mandate for sacrificial practice. My pursuit of art, my personal demand for excellence and my desire to contribute is summed up in the words of many of my mentors and teachers who said, 'Stay the course, Laura.'"
— Laura Bergquist '79, actress, singer, conductor and director who co-founded Wichita's Stage One in 1995, speaking at the Sept. 21 WSU Distinguished Alumni Speakers Breakfast.

“The art of baseball has been evident on Wichita's playing fields for well over a century. ... When Wichita was incorporated in 1870, the town and the game were ready for each other, and Wichita had its first professional nine the following decade. Baseball in Wichita tells the story of local baseball at all levels ... in words and images dating from the 19th century to the present day."
Blurb at www.arcadiapublishing.com describing Bob Rives '94's new book on the municipal pastime.

“We want our students and those in colleges and universities throughout the state to know that they do not have to tolerate emotional, sexual or physical abuse at any time under any circumstances."
— WSU President Don Beggs about the university's support of Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline's public education campaign to raise awareness of partner abuse among students on Kansas college campuses and to encourage victims of this abuse to seek help. The number for the Kansas Crime Victims' Information and Referral Line is (800) 828-9745.
