Shocker Kansas house members
The visage of The Honorable Oletha Faust-
Goudeau fs ’79, a democrat representing
Kansas District 84 in the House, can’t be
spotted in this photo taken at the Capitol
in February. But that’s not to say she’s
not a proud Shocker. She reports, “I was
disappointed to have missed being
included.”

Capitol Shockers

If you missed The Wichita Eagle’s Blogatorial published April 3 (along with a copy of The Shocker’s photo at left), check it out here: “The latest issue of The Shocker, Wichita State University’s alumni magazine, notes at least 20 members of the current Legislature have earned degrees from or attended WSU, including some now representing cities as far away from Wichita as Greensburg, Chanute and Lindsborg. Another fact that’s good to know as lawmakers deal with issues of higher education ranging from deferred maintenance to tuition increases to an Academic Bill of Rights: About 65 percent of current lawmakers have at least a four-year degree, some 29 of 40 state senators and 79 of 125 representatives. If Kansans want to see smart decisions on education coming from the Legislature, they should send well-educated legislators to Topeka.”

Dear Editor:

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how much I’m enjoying the latest issue of The Shocker (spring 2006). Thanks for the article on (Kansas representative) Delia Garcia. I’ve known her family since Delia was a little girl, and I’m so proud of her. It’s inspiring to read about how much of an impact she’s making at such a young age, and I’m excited to watch her career progress. Gold stars to you and your staff.

Online Alumni Community

Hello, Shockers!

I was so excited to learn (in the spring 2006 The Shocker) that the WSU alumni association has launched  a program that enables Shockers to get a hold of one other. I’m interested in searching for my fellow Shockers, especially those I went to WSU with.
Thank you.
