Shocker Engineers Memorabilia

Dear WSU Alumni Association:

Here are the yearbooks (and other Shocker memorabilia) we spoke of Feb. 2, 2015. They belonged to my brother-in-law Gerald Wayne Born.

He graduated with a (bachelor's) degree in (mechanical) engineering (1970).

He passed away March 30, 2013, in Texas. He had been married to my sister Lynda Shuttlesworth Born for 20 years. He was the director of global reserves in Houston, Texas, for Hess.

He had an outstanding career and spoke fondly of college.

Brenda Staples, Manfield, Texas

Editor's Note: Thank you, Brenda Staples and Lynda Born, for your contribution of the WSU Engineers token, along with a number of Wichita State yearbooks from the 1960s, to the WSUAA's Shocker Memorabilia Collection, which is housed in the Woodman Alumni Center.

Thank You for the Quality Work

Dear WSUAA:

I really enjoy reading The Shocker magazine. Excellent publication!

My 50th anniversary of graduating from Wichita State is approaching in 2015. Are there any plans set for a reunion?

Thank you for the alumni association staff's quality work.

Best regards,
John Benjamin '65, Bixby, Okla.

Editor's Note: Congratulations on your 50th anniversary of graduating from Wichita State, John Benjamin! In the coming weeks, you and your 1965 classmates will be invited to reunion festivities, to be set for fall 2015. As you may already know, the WSUAA is going through a time of transition, highlighted by the hiring of our 11th top administrator this past January. Courtney M. Marshall is not only leading the WSUAA through a major strategic realignment this spring and summer, but also is working closely with members of the alumni board and search committees to hire qualified individuals for two key WSUAA positions: director of alumni programs and assistant director of alumni events. As soon as these positions are filled – full steam ahead on 50-year reunion fun!

Dear Editor:

Thank you for “Everyone's Welcome” in the fall 2014 issue. The article was so well-written, and inspiring.

Dear Editor:

The article “California Saga” (in the fall 2014 issue) was great. Thanks so much for writing it!
