Dear WSU Alumni Association:
I wish to express my gratitude to you for granting me your Shocker License Plate Scholarship for this year. You have made it possible for me to pursue additional academic interests as well as to reach out in service to school and community.
Thank you so much for this and for supporting all WSU students in the pursuit of their dreams. I'm looking forward to a wonderful year, and I will not forget the people whose generosity made it possible. Thank you.

Dear Editor:
I'd like to let you know I've enjoyed many articles in The Shocker, especially "The Persistence of Vision" and "Global Perspectives" in the summer 2004 issue. I'm not a WSU alumnus, but I did teach in the art department from 1970-73. While at WSU I never knew much about the history of the department or its noteworthy graduates or teachers.
Since leaving WSU, I earned a PhD at the University of Iowa (I enjoy their alumni magazine too) and have taught in the department of art and art history at the University of Texas at Austin since 1975. Naturally, I encourage you to continue featuring art articles in The Shocker. I've taught several "writing component" classes at UT and have worked with foreign students so I enjoyed the article about ESL hurdles. I'd like to compliment you on the wonderful cover photograph in the last issue too.
In addition to the above, I want to mention the articles written by faculty members. I used one, "The Incredible Vastness of Things" (summer 2002), as an example of "thick description" for my writing component classes.
Thanks for some interesting reading.
