Charles S. Evenson ’59, MGT, was inducted into the Kansas Oil and Gas Hall of Fame this April. Evenson is the founder of Evenson Auctioneers, which sells oil and gas properties and heavy equipment. He resides in Wichita.*
Allan K. Higdon ’61,JOURN, has been inducted into the Junior Achievement-Wichita Business Hall of Fame. He is a founder of the advertising agency Sullivan Higdon & Sink. He resides in Wichita.*
Thomas E. Wright ’61, ENG L/LIT, ’61 MATH, chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission and Kansas Bar Association president-elect, has been presented the Col. John Ritchie Award by Washburn University. The award recognizes those who have distinguished themselves as teachers, administrators or Washburn benefactors and who have benefited the community and their chosen field. Wright, a former chairman of the Governor’s Gaming Committee and of the Consolidation Commission of Topeka-Shawnee County, also has served on the civil justice reform advisory group of the Federal Court, on the Kansas Supreme Court nominating committee and as a member of the Washburn Board of Regents. He taught for many years at the Washburn School of Law as an adjunct professor. He resides in Topeka, Kan.*

James M. Swayze ’64, PE, ’68, M EAS, has retired as director of manufacturing with Eagle Roofing Products in Phoenix, Ariz., and now resides in Wichita.*
C. Lindel Silvertooth ’65, M EAS, after 48 years in education, has retired as principal of Derby Hills Elementary School in Derby, Kan. Early in his career, he taught sixth grade and PE, but went on to his first position as principal at Linwood Elementary in 1965. Through the years, he has worked in about a dozen Wichita-area elementary schools. He lives in Derby.

J. Denny Senseney ’69, MUS ED, ’74 MUS I, longtime president of Senseney Music, has retired from the company he founded. Senseney, who embarked on his career in the music business some 30 years ago, resides in Wichita.*
Stanley G. Brannan ’72, EL E, who is CEO of Purifan Inc. and the founder of, in 1974, Mycro-Tek Inc., which sold microprocessor based newspaper computer systems, and of, in 1984, Brite Voice Systems, which developed voice mail systems and grew to an annual revenue rate of $175 million, spoke in February at Wichita State’s Center for Entrepreneurship. Brannan lives in Wichita.*
Linda K. Lower ’72, SOC WK, is the art department coordinator at Wichita-based Century Manufacturing, a $10 million company that specializes in a process of embedding and engraving acrylic handmade products. She lives in Wichita.
Randall E. Mathews ’72, I ED, ’80 M SEC ED, has been presented a Newton, Kan., High School 2008 Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award. After stints in the U.S. Air Force in Korea and Vietnam (he later served in Bosnia and Kuwait), he taught industrial arts for 13 years before working for the past 23 years as a training instructor and administrator at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, now Spirit AeroSystems. He resides in Newton.

Marshall R. Whitlock ’73, HIST, ’75 M HIST, is director of the Milwaukee Center of Upper Iowa University, a private nonprofit university with a traditional campus in Fayette, Iowa, and an extended campus that includes some 15 learning centers in five states. Whitlock oversees a center serving more than 500 students in the greater Milwaukee area. He resides in Madison, Wis.
Jonathan C. Griffith ’74, M MUS I, artistic director and principal conductor of New York’s Distinguished Concerts International and artistic director at the Institute of Voice in Portland, Ore., conducted the Andover, Kan., High School Madrigals, along with other prep choirs from around the country, at Carnegie Hall in March. Kathleen L. (Levalley) Wagner ’74, PE, Wichita Collegiate School PE department chair and an early childhood PE teacher, was honored by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education in March as the Central District Elementary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. W. Casey Blake fs ’96, professional baseball player, agreed to a $6.1 million one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians. A free agent who signed with the Indians in 2002, he started 134 games at third base and hit .270 with 18 home runs last season. He resides in Indianola, Iowa.
