Charles Baughman ’94
“Dodging” and “Freeze Frame” are two in a series of works based on cameras. Other artistic subjects of interest to Baughman are bicycles, flowers and typewriters. The nationally known painter and sculpture is also a longtime art educator with teaching experience at Wichita State, the Wichita Art Museum, Cowley County College, Butler County College, the Wichita Center for the Arts and Friends University.
After discovering the Monart method of teaching art, which was developed by California artist Mona Brookes in 1979, Baughman, along with his wife Kate Pepper, opened the Monart School of Art in Wichita. During his years of teaching, Baughman has developed and taught classes ranging from art appreciation and figurative sculpture to advanced drawing courses and painting.

In addition to his "cameras" series, Baughman has focused his artistic attention on "figures," "interiors" and "boneforms," the latter of which are elegantly turned sculptures in bronze, steel, wood and/or aluminum. The artist earned his bachelor’s degree in studio arts and art history from Kearney State College in Kearney, Neb., and his Master of Fine Arts in painting and sculpture from Wichita State.
