Robert W. Thayer ’55, M MUS ED, dean emeritus of the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University is serving for the 2009-2010 academic year as interim director of the Bower School of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers. He lives in Estero, Fla.

Melvin F. Pontious ’56, MUS ED, who has taught general, choral and instrumental music for 27 years, is a fine arts education consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He resides in Middleton, Wis.

Philip E. Anderson III ’58, BUS ADM, is the fourth-generation owner of Anderson’s Book & Office Supply in Newton, Kan., where he resides.

Thomas E. Wright ’61, ENG L/LIT, ’61 MATH, an attorney, has been reappointed by Gov. Mark Parkinson to the Kansas Corporation Commission. First appointed in May 2007 and elected chair in June 2007, Wright lives in Topeka, Kan.

Sheldon “Shelly” C. Anderson ’63, MKT, is an insurance professional with the independent insurance agency, the Anderson Group, Amelia Island, Fla. He resides in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

Carl J. Gerbrandt ’63, M MUS CH, retired University of Northern Colorado music professor who directed UNC’s opera theater program for 21 years, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Opera Association for his contribution in the area of sacred opera. The author of Sacred Music Drama. Gerbrandt lives in Platteville, Colo.

T. Meredith Williams ’65, M MUS ED, is director of alumni, publications, conventions and media relations at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Mo., where he resides. 

John R. Morton ’66, SEC ED, ’68 M SEC ED, is superintendent of the Newton, Kan., public schools. He lives in North Newton, Kan.*

Rudy V. Nydegger ’66, PSYCH, ’69 M PSYCH, is the author of Understanding and Treating Depression: Ways to Find Hope and Help, published by the Greenwood Publishing Group Inc. in 2008. He is chief of the division of psychology at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y., where he resides.*

Pamela A. (McMaster) Yenser ’66, ENG L/LIT, a retired university writing instructor and administrator, is an adjunct instructor at Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque, N.M. She lives in Albuquerque.

R. Kent Dove ’67, SOC/ANTHRO, formerly vice president of community development at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, is director of advancement at Prairie View Inc. in Newton, Kan. He resides in Sedgwick, Kan.

Kenneth A. Forsyth ’67, M MUS CH, a longtime Kansas vocal music educator and choral director who taught in several public school systems and at Friends University, McPherson College and Southwestern College, has been inducted into the Kansas Music Educators Association Hall of Fame. Forsyth live in Topeka, Kan.

Robert “Bob” D. Dool ’68, BUS ADM, is president of Mid-Continent Safety, a Wichita-based safety products supplier. He lives in Wichita.*

Larry D. Larsen ’68, MCH E, is a freelance outdoors writer with 21 books, 8,000 photographs and more than 2,000 magazine articles to his credit. He also serves as editor-in-chief at Adventure Travel eZine, is a contributing editor at Florida Sportsman and is founder of the Peacock Bass Association. He resides in Lakeland, Fla.

Ned C. Stoll ’68, ANTHRO, who served three tours in Vietnam and is now operations officer for Military Professional Resources Inc., has been awarded the Presidential Call to Service Award. He lives in South Korea.

Phillip L. Dudley ’69, M ECON, economics professor for nearly 40 years and president of Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., since 2000, has announced his plans to retire from the presidency in July 2011. He lives in Hastings.

Kathleen F. Weber ’68, MUS ED, ’70 m mus p, a soprano who has appeared in recital, opera and oratorio concerts throughout the United States, is a member of the voice faculty at Turtle Bay Music School in New York City, N.Y., where she resides.

Michael W. Keller ’69, ENG L/LIT, a trauma recovery specialist and partner at Behavioral Medicine Specialists in Wichita, has been named recipient of the Elizabeth Snyker award for outstandingservice in humanitarian assistance by the emdr International Association. Emdr, which stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, is Keller’s primary psychotherapy method. Keller, who is a Wichita resident, will be presented the national award Aug. 29 in Atlanta.

J. Denny Senseney ’69, MUS ED, ’74 M MUS I, retired owner and president of Senseney Music in Wichita, has been appointed by Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson ’80 to the Kansas Arts Commission. Senseney lives in Wichita.*

Ronald “Ron” G. Greiving ’70, BUS ADM, owns the Haysville Rental Center, in Haysville, Kan. The business offers a wide range of equipment for both indoor and outdoor projects. Grieving is a resident of Derby, Kan.

Dennis D. McMillan ’70, BUS ADM, a financial adviser with Carson Wealth Management Group in Omaha, Neb., specializes in estate and retirement planning. He lives in Omaha.

Deana S. Peck ’70, SPEECH, is an attorney with the firm of Quarles & Brady llp in Phoenix, Ariz. Listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Peck has served as an adjunct professor of law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University and authored five professional publications. She is a Phoenix resident.

William “Bill” E. O’Conner ’70, POL SCI, ’78 M POL SCI, who retired March 1 after nearly 30 years of service in various roles on both Capitol Hill and at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, now practices with the Washington, D.C., law firm of McLeod, Watkinson & Miller. O’Conner lives in Falls Church, Va.

Michael J. Arendt ’71, MUS T/C, founder and conductor of the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and Big Band, retired from UW-Manitowoc in 2006, after teaching music theory, music history, French horn and conducting since 1971. Arendt resides in Manitowoc.

Stacey (Graham) Steele ’71, MUS ED, a flutist, is assistant professor of music at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. She lives in Slippery Rock.

James H. Swiggart ’71, M MUS I, is the general director of Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point. He resides in Holiday Isle, Ark.

Carl N. Tyson ’71, HIST, ’73 M HIST, is president, CEO and director of Thinkwell, an Austin, Texas-based company that provides multimedia products to support the teaching of math, science and social sciences. Tyson lives in Austin.

Modena (Hoover) Wilson '71, M BIO, is a pediatrician with a 20-year academic career, including serving as professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Since 2004, she has been senior vice president for professional standards at the American Medical Association. She lives in Chicago.

Michael W. Conner ’72, PSYCH, ’72 REL, ’76 S ART/DP, an academic and art consultant, is director of the fine arts programs and collections at Amerinvest International Champaign-Rantoul, as well as the owner of ArtConsul Collections Management and Appraisal Services. He resides in Champaign, Ill.

Steven “Steve” I. Feiertag ’72, BIO, the owner of Feiertag Financial Services, first gained the designation of Certified Financial Planner 23 years ago. Originally from New York, he now lives in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.*

George Rogers III ’72, M PE, president and CEO of Whitewing Construction Co., Newton, Kan., serves on Bethel College’s board of directors. He lives in Newton.

Lorene R. Valentine ’72, ADM, ’85 M BUS ADM, is executive director of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita’s Medical Practice Association. She lives in Wichita.*

Michael J. Vivion ’72, M ENG, formerly global head of strategic communications for Hoffmann-La Roche, Basel, Switzerland, is executive director of ECG, a strategic communications consulting company based in Englewood, N.J. He lives in Red Bank, N.J.

Roger P. Carvalho ’73, ENG L/LIT, ’77 M COMM, is vice president of sales at Pen Publishing Interactive Inc. He resides in Wichita.

Redmand C. “Rusty” Featherstone ’73, AJ, the 1992 recipient of the Director’s Medal of Service presented by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for his work as project manager on the acquisition and implementation of the state’s $6 million Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), has owned Lightrock Consulting since 2006. He lives in Edmond, Okla.*

Debra J. (Demaree) Fox ’73, RT, ’95 M BUS ADM, is a respiratory therapist at Wesley Medical Center. She lives in Wichita.

Alan R. Pfeifer ’73, M ACCT, ’73 M BUS ADM, is controller at Diamond Contract Services Inc. in Burbank, Calif. He resides in Oak Park, Calif.

Gary E. Curmode ’74, PE, ’81 M AJ, ’83 M URB A, has been designated by the Commission of Professional Credentialing as a Chief Medical Officer. He is chief at Sedgwick County Fire District No. 1 and resides in Wichita.

Cynthia K. (Dean) Olson ’74, ACCT, former Enron executive vice president of human resources and community relations, is author of The Whole Truth, the first book to be written by an Enron insider about the company. Olson is now director of marketing, human resources and administration at N2 Spray Solutions in Grand Junction, Colo. She resides in Carbondale, Colo.

Robert P. Wherry ’74, M POL SCI, is city manager of Lakeland, Tenn. He lives in Lakeland.

John E. Aley ’75, MUS P, is professor of trumpet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Music. He also has taught at the Brooklyn College of Music, Western Connecticut State College and Wichita State. He lives in Madison.

Ruth A. David ’75, EL E, former CIA deputy director for science and technology, is president and CEO of the Arlington, Va.,-based Analytic Services Inc. (ANSER), an independent, not-for-profit, public service research institution that provides analytical support on national and transnational issues. She lives in Fairfax Station, Va.*

Cynthia S. Lair ’75, SP, director of curriculum for the bachelor’s degree in nutrition and culinary arts at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Wash., is also a clinical associate for the University of Washington School of Nursing’s CAM program, a contributing editor for Mothering Magazine and author of the cookbook Feeding the Whole Family. She lives in Seattle, Wash.

Michael “Mike” A. Mountain ’75, EL ED, is principal at Vermillion Primary School in Maize, Kan. He lives in Wichita.

Virginia R. Shaw ’75, M PSYCH, a clinical psychologist and branch chief of the state of Hawaii’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division, has received an award of appreciation from Mental Health America of Maui County for 13 years of service. She resides in Kula, Hawaii.*

John M. Sheeran ’75, PT, who has co-owned Sheeran Thompson Allied Rehabilitation Services Inc. (STARS) since 2003, is a licensed physical therapist in the states of Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. He resides in Hiawatha, Kan.

Randall “Randy” R. (Beasley) Coffman ’76, NURS, a registered nurse, licensed paramedic and law enforcement professional with six years of experience as a detective in the investigations division of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, is captain of the Andover Police Department. She resides in Andover, Kan.

Richard “Rich” Conlon ’76, ECON, is vice president of sales for North America and the Asian Pacific region at 724 Solutions, a Mobixell company in Santa Barbara, Calif. He lives in Los Gatos, Calif.*

Mark G. Dotzour ’76, BUS ADM, a former associate professor of real estate and finance at Wichita State, is chief economist and director of research at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where he lives. A public speaker of note and the author of some 70 articles, Dotzour has had his research findings and comments published in the Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, USA Today and Business Week, among other national publications.

Steven L. Kohler ’76, BIO, is an associate professor and director of the Environmental Studies Program at Western Michigan University. He resides in Kalamazoo, Mich.*

Connie K. (Miller) Wilson ’76, MUS ED, is the director of liturgy and music at Holy Spirit Catholic Community. She lives in Naperville, Ill.*

Mary E. “Molly” (Pottorf) Lyon ’76, M CDS, is an audiologist and speech pathologist who has developed a program at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita aimed at assisting parents and other caregivers help hearing-impaired children. She resides in Wichita.

Paul B. Carney ’77, M ED PSYCH, is vice president for students and enrollment management at Webster University in Webster Groves, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis. He resides in Springfield, Mo.

Debra S. Duncan ’77, CDS, is director of animal facilities inspection at the Kansas Animal Health Department in Topeka, Kan. She lives in Lawrence, Kan.

Esther M. Hockett ’77, ART HIST, ’84 M EAS, is an adjunct professor in the visual arts department at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D., where she lives.*

Bruce E. Kline ’77, M PSYCH, owner and director of Kline and Associates Psychological Practice in Dayton, Ohio, is president of the Wright State University Alumni Association. Kline, who is a doctoral graduate of Wright State’s School of Professional Psychology, lives in Kettering, Ohio.

Quentin A. Childs ’78, GEN ST, is president of Insurance Management Group in Altoona, Iowa. He resides in Indianola, Iowa.

Mark C. Musso ’79, BUS ADM, ’82, M BUS ADM, Special Olympics Missouri president and CEO, has been named to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his 38 years of service to the Special Olympics. He lives in Jefferson City, Mo.

Mary K. “Kim” (Heath) Van Maren ’80, NURS, is vice president of business development at Morgan Hunter HealthSearch in Overland Park, Kan. She resides in Bonner Springs, Kan.

Rodney E. Johnson ’80, MCH E, is vice president of reservoir engineering at SandRidge Energy Inc., Oklahoma City, Okla. He lives in Edmond, Okla.

Bradley H. Cordts ’81, AJ, ’83 M AJ, is a senior special agent with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. He resides in Topeka, Kan.

Richard A. Hodges ’81, MUS P, founder and conductor of the Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey Saxophone Choir, is a classical saxophonist who has performed in Europe, Canada and throughout the United States. He lives in Plainsboro, N.J.

Bret A. Ingalls fs ’81, a veteran university football running game and offensive line coach, joined the National Football League’s New Orleans Saints organization as running backs coach in January. In February, the Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17, in Super Bowl XLIV in the most-watched program in U.S. television history, surpassing the 1983 finale of “M.A.S.H.” Ingalls resides in Mandeville, La.

Michael “Mike” D. Maddox ’81, F SCI TECH, is a battalion chief with the Wichita Fire Department. He lives in Derby, Kan.

Jeff A. McBeth ’81, IE, is a research and development manager at Taylor Corp. in North Mankato, Minn. He lives in Mankato, Minn.

John S. Oehm ’81, M S ART/P, who previously taught at Wichita State, the Wichita Center for the Arts and privately in his Wichita studio, is an art instructor at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. His figurative paintings and drawings have been shown nationally and internationally. Oehm lives in Wichita.

Robert E. Peterson ’81, M AJ, is a general practice attorney in Carroll, Iowa. He lives in Perry, Iowa.

Jonathan A. Retzlaff ’81, M MUS P, a lyric baritone, is an associate professor of voice at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. He lives in Nashville, Tenn.

Barbara J. (Wright) Walker ’81, SOC WK, is a social work discipline head at Prairie View in Newton, Kan. She lives in North Newton, Kan.

Jill M. Rumoshosky-Werner ’81, M CDS, of Werner Studio, is an artist who works in conceptual art, fiber art and quilting. A former systems engineer with 10 years of experience at IBM, a former software technical writer at NCR and a former research audiologist, Rumoshosky-Werner lives in Wichita.

Don E. Heinkel ’82, BIO, a physician practicing in Birmingham, Ala., will become the fourth Shocker to be inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. Heinkel, who pitched at WSU from 1979-82, holds the NCAA record for career victories, 51-12. He lives in Birmingham.

Diana L. (McCormick) Mark ’82, RT, is a respiratory therapist at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She lives in Derby, Kan.

Teresa A. Marshall ’82, JOURN, ’84 LEG A, ’94 M COMM is the director of Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and liturgical ministries at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Andover, Kan. She lives in Wichita.

Denise A. (Stump) Maus ’82, DH, has been named a Hygienist Hero by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the Johnson & Johnson health-care products division of McNeil-PPC Inc. She is one of 10 individuals nationwide to be recognized for their efforts in promoting oral health. She lives in Wichita.*

Michael D. Hibbett ’83, M MUS ED, is conductor of the Columbia Chorale in Wenatchee, Wash., where he lives.

Timothy V. Kaufman ’83, POL SCI, ’01 M PUB ADM, is deputy human services director at Sedgwick County. He lives in Wichita.*

John L. Leavitt Jr. ’83, M MUS P, conductor and composer, is visiting professor of music and choir director at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. He resides in Andover, Kan.

Thomas A. “T. David” Rutherford ’83, GEN ST, a character actor, is active in radio and TV voice-overs, commercials, industrials, independent films and in many stage roles. He lives in Aurora, Colo.

Rita N. (McCullough) Simpson ’83, PA, is a physician assistant at Advanced Pain Medicine Associates in Wichita, where she lives.

Gary D. Bue ’84, RT, is director of clinical operations at Wichita Clinic PA. He resides in Wichita.

Deborah “Deb” K. Voth ’84, M ED PSYCH, who served since 1993 as chief operating officer of Rainbows United Inc. in Wichita, became the agency’s president March 1. She lives in Wichita.

Marcy L. (Vahsholtz) Buer ’85, DH, is a registered dental hygienist with Milt Holloway DDS in Beliot, Kan. She is a resident of Concordia, Kan.

Michael P. Cannady ’85, FIN, is an estate planning attorney and shareholder at Adams Jones Law Firm PA in Wichita. He lives in Augusta, Kan.*

Deborah S. (Martin) Fisher Stout ’85, FIN, is president of Northern Flyer Alliance Inc., Wichita, which supports the development of a proposed Amtrak Northern Flyer train line that would run between Oklahoma City and Kansas City with stops in Wichita and Newton, Kan. Fisher Stout lives in Wichita.

Mark C. Rowe ’85, SOC WK, who established Hospice Care of Kansas in 1999, has opened a Wichita-location for Rivercross Hospice, a company with Oklahoma locations in Tulsa, Drumwright and Bartlesville. He lives in Wichita.

Charles “Chuck” L. Watts ’85, AA SOC SCI, ’93 M BUS ADM, is subcontract manager at General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products in Charlotte, N.C. He resides in Mount Holly, N.C.

Curtis L. Whitten ’85, AJ, a starting safety for the WSU Shockers in the early 1980s who went on to a career in law enforcement, has owned VendTech Enterprises, a full-service security firm based in Wichita, since 2005. He lives in Wichita.

Belinda J. (Johnson) Atteberry ’86, GEN ST, is senior media specialist at the Metropolitan Tucson Convention & Visitors Bureau. She resides in Oro Valley, Ariz.

Mary S. Craft ’86, EL E, is senior vice president for national systems in the Mission Solutions Group at QinetiQ North America headquarters in McLean, Va. Her career expertise includes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, solutions and support. She lives in Ashburn, Va.

Michael D. Erickson ’86, COMP SCI, is associate vice president of technology and computing services and CIO at Emporia State University. He lives in Emporia, Kan.*

Amy L. (Dayvault) Garcia ’86, NURS, ’94 M NURS, is executive director of the National Association of School Nurses, based in Washington, D.C.

Gerald “Jerry” A. Goehring ’86, GEN ST, a Grammy-nominated producer (Best Spoken Word for Children) with Goehring Evans Productions llc, founded the Stuart Street Playhouse in Boston and co-founded Connecticut Children’s Theatre, a national touring company for families and children. The producing artistic director of CCT, he also is executive director of the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. He lives in Essex, Conn.

Arthur J. “Jim” Granada ’86, M ED PSYCH, is director of advanced academic services for the Austin Independent School District. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Lynda L. (McFarland) Tyler ’86, SOC SCI, a licensed financial adviser and Wichita branch manager for LPL Financial Services, is a local Tea Party organizer in Wichita, where she resides.

John P. Anderton ’87, POL SCI, is associate director of communications at the National Center for Public Health Informatics with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. He lives in Duluth, Ga.

Andrew “Andy” J. Halula ’87, FIN, is vice president at Standard & Poor’s in the greater Denver area. He resides in Parker, Colo.

Doug E. McWhirter ’87, BIO, a wildlife biologist with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, was named Wildlife Professional of the Year (2009) by the Wyoming Chapter of the Wildlife Society. He is a resident of Cody, Wyo.

Randall R. Meals ’87, M BUS ADM, a venture capitalist, is managing director at Quicksilver Ventures in Saratoga, Calif. He resides in Palo Alto, Calif.
