Richard C. Oburn ’43, GEO, geologist and owner of Oexco Enterprises in Plano, Texas, has retired. He lives in Plano.

James R. Daniels fs ’47, executive vice president of Murfin Drilling Co. Inc., is a 2005 inductee into the Kansas Oil & Gas Hall of Fame. He lives in Wichita.

Charles L. Stansifer ’53, SPAN, ’54 M HIST, has retired from the University of Kansas after 42 years of service in the department of history. He served on the graduate committees of more than 20 MA and PhD students in the fields of Latin American history and Latin American studies. He lives in Lawrence, Kan.*

Lee A. (McIntosh) Kochenderfer ’54, EL ED, emeritus professor, Riverside Community College in Riverside, Calif., where she also resides, signed copies of her book The Victory Garden at Wichita’s Watermark Books in March.*

Cleo Littleton ’55, PE, former Shocker All-American and owner of Litco Inc., was named 2004 8(a) Graduate of the Year as a top minority small business owner by the Wichita Small Business Administration. Littleton has also been inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. He lives in Wichita.*

George P. Waller ’55, SOC, has retired from the St. Louis University Medical School in St. Louis, Mo. He lives in Afton, Mo.

J. Gary Wolf ’55, MUS ED, has semi-retired as professor of music at Rollins College in Winter Springs, Fla., where he also resides.

Laverne L. Baker ’56, CDS ’56 EL ED, ’81 PHD CDS, works as a speech pathologist for Geary County Schools in Manhattan, Kan., where she also lives.

Melvin L. Shelton ’56, mus ed, emeritus director of bands at Boise (Idaho) State University, heard his music presented at a BSU Celebration Concert in 2004. His compositions have also been performed in Japan, the Netherlands and Australia. He lives in Boise.

Peter L. Youngers ’58, S ART/PA, ’64 M ART/PA, retired as associate dean of humanities at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo., where he also resides.

Dean E. Graber ’59, MGT, ’63 M BUS ADM, has retired from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. He lives in Bixby, Okla.

Chin Hyuck Kim ’59, MATH, has retired as a computer programmer for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. He lives in Fountain Valley, Calif.

Paul F. Kimminau ’59, AERON E, has retired as a project manager for Hughes Missile Systems Co. in Tucson, Ariz., where he also resides.

Larry N. Blick ’60, POL S, ’67 M POL S, has retired as city manager of Independence, Mo., where he resides.*

Constance E. “Connie” (Moore) Fletcher ’60, M MUS P, has retired as a music and piano teacher in Ocean View, Hawaii, where she also resides.

Donald H. Pratt ’60, IND E, who heads a private commercial development company, Western Investments Inc., Kansas City, Mo., has been appointed chairman of the board of American Century Mutual Funds. He lives in Shawnee Mission, Kan.*

Donald E. Baxter ’61, MCH E, has retired as a project manager for Jacobs Engineering Group in Baton Rouge, La., where he also lives.

William A. Browning ’61, AERON E, has retired as an aircraft systems lead engineer for American Airlines in Tulsa, Okla., where he also resides.

Judith K. “Judy” (Bolinger) Claar ’61, MUS ED, has retired as an executive secretary at First National Bank in Cimarron, Kan., after 27 years of service. She lives in Cimarron.*

Miller E. “Gene” Countryman fs ’61, former ad executive who created the “Ah, Kansas!” campaign for the state tourism bureau, has celebrated “16 going on 17” years of his radio talk show, Countryman’s Kansas, dedicated to showcasing the best the state has to offer. He lives in Wichita.

Diana Elaine F. (Phillips) Depue ’61, SEC ED, ’61 SEC ED, is a licensed marriage family therapist who resides in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Bob T. Miller ’61, SEC ED, has retired as a pilot with Kiwi Airlines in Newark, N.J. He lives in North Hampton, N.H.*

Peter C. Vandervoorn ’61, CHEM, ’61 MATH, ’61 PHYS, has retired as a quality consultant for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, N.Y., where he also lives.

Thomas B. “Tom” Ferris ’62, PE, is a golf coach at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill. He lives in Marion, Ill.

Dixie A. (Eastes) Mills ’62, EL ED, ’74 M EL ED, recently exhibited her paintings at the Delmar Riney Art Gallery at Pratt (Kan.) Community College. She lives in Wichita.

Glenn A. Peacock ’62, EL E, has retired as a systems engineering manager at Lockheed Martin in New Orleans, La. He lives in Metairie, La.*

William L. Schroeder ’62, MCH E, has retired as an aerospace engineer with the FAA in Renton, Wash. He lives in Kent, Wash.

William F. “Bill” Seigle ’62, MATH, has retired from the marketing division of IBM in Kansas City, Mo. He lives in Olathe, Kan.*

Clair D. Nelson ’63, EL E, has retired as an engineer from NASA in Houston, Texas, where  he also lives.

John M. Siebert ’63, M CHEM, former CEO of CIMA Labs in Eden Prairie, Minn., is now CEO of CyDex Inc., a Lenexa, Kan., biotechnology company. Siebert lives in Olathe, Kan.

Richard T. Reiter ’64, S ART/PA, has retired after serving in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years as a B-52 pilot and at Northrop Grumman for 16 years as the crew station safety engineer for the B-2 bomber. He lives in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Hal W. Stephenson ’64, MATH, has retired from General Motors engineering where he was a reliability statistician. He lives in Rochester Hills, Mich.*

William L. “Bill” Strout ’64, MUS P, has retired as regional director of sales for Outrigger Hotels & Resorts in Santa Ana, Calif., where he also resides.

John D. Benjamin ’65, POL S, sales manager for Capital One Auto Finance, Tulsa, Okla., and former Tulsa city councilor, has been appointed to the board of directors of Tulsa Regional Medical Center. He lives in Bixby, Okla.*

D. Kemp Irwin ’65, POL S, ’67 M HIST, has retired as director of marketing at IBM in Boulder, Colo. He lives in Niwot, Colo.

Eugene C. Rickard ’65, CHEM, ’67 M CHEM, has retired as senior research scientist for Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis, Ind. He lives in  Zionsville, Ind.

Frederic L. Shuman ’65, MUS ED, ’67 M MUS I, teaches philosophy at Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado Springs, Colo., where he lives.

John D. Braunreiter ’66, AERON E, has retired as a pilot from United Airlines in Chicago, Ill. He lives in Roanoke, Texas.

John M. Ellis ’66, BIOL, senior database administrator for university computing at WSU, has been awarded a President’s Distinguished Service Award for his role in “the planning, development and implementation of various web applications available to the university, including Shocker One Stop,” which allows faculty, staff and students to check grades, enroll in classes and update personal information. Ellis lives in Wichita.

James M. “Mike” Hayes ’66, SOC, ’66 ANTHRO, ’70 M ANTHRO, is the author of Plains Crazy, a mystery novel published by Poisoned Pen Press, Scottsdale, Ariz. He lives in Tucson, Ariz.*

Barbara A. (Reed) Honn ’66, MUS ED, ’74 M MUS T/C, is a professor of voice at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. She lives in Rising Sun, Ind.

Dennis E. Nix ’66, SOC, ’66 ANTHRO, has retired as manager of systems integration at Fluor Daniel Engineering in Ross, Ohio. Nix lives in South Park, Penn.

James N. Smith ’66, CHEM, ’67 M CHEM, has retired as a director in the semiconductor product sector of Motorola/Technology Asset Management in Phoenix, Ariz. He lives in Tempe, Ariz.

Gary L. Atkins ’67, SEC ED, has retired as president of Mountain Bell Federal Credit Union in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he also resides.

Alexander M. Behrens ’67, ACCT, has retired as administrator of federal programs for the city of Oklahoma City, Okla., where he also resides.

James B. “Jim” Hattan ’67, BUS ADM, president of Don Hattan Chevrolet, has received the 2005 Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award. Hattan lives in Wichita.*

Dale A. Kitchen ’67, BUS ADM, has retired as manager of business planning for Rockwell International in Seal Beach, Calif. He lives in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Joann (Peugh) Niedens ’67, AA BUS ED, is a legal assistant for Woolf McClane Bright Allen & Carpenter in Knoxville, Tenn., where she lives.

Carolyn L. (White) Bridges ’68, EL ED, ’74 M EAS, after three years in Florida teaching school and working at Walt Disney World, has returned to Wichita, where she is an education specialist for Baker University.*

Robert D. “Bob” Dool ’68, BUS ADM, chairman of the board for Mid-Continent Safety, was the 32nd Admiral Windwagon Smith for the 2005 Wichita River Festival. Dool lives in Wichita.*

Larry Hatteberg fs ’68, KAKE-TV prime time co-anchor, won the regional Emmy for best news feature out of 676 entries from Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Nebraska. His winning entry was “Nancy’s Incredible Journey,” a report on former Kansas Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker in Japan in her new role as the wife of ambassador Howard Baker. Hatteberg lives in Wichita.

Nancy G. (Garrison) Hemmrich ’68, EL ED, has retired as secretary and treasurer for Hemmrich & Associates in Brentwood, Tenn., where she also resides.*

Darleen (Alseike) Kliewer-Britton ’68, M MUS P, has retired as a professor of music and voice from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. She lives in Phoenix, Ariz.

Ned C. Stoll ’68, ANTHRO, is site manager for Lockheed Martin Information Technology in South Korea, where he also lives.

C. David “Dave” Joy ’69, M MUS I, has retired as manager of marketing operations for Holt, Rinehardt & Winston in Austin, Texas. He lives in Round Rock, Texas.

Margaret A. (Colo) McDevitt ’69, M ENG, has retired as an assistant professor of English at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. She lives in Hubbardston, Mass.

Leigh S. Shaffer ’69, PSYCH, ’74 M SOC, is a professor of sociology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in West Chester. He lives in Downingtown, Penn.

Ruth A. (Hardgrave) Shiflet ’69, EL ED, is an accountant with CRS Financial Services Inc. in St. Louis, Mo. She lives in Florissant, Mo.

John P. Wayne ’69, M PHYS, is a quality compliance manager with Knowles Electronics in Itasca, Ill. He lives in Wheaton, Ill.

Neal C. Harrington ’70, EL E, has semi-retired as an electronics engineer with Troxler Electronic Labs in Research Triangle Park, N.C. He lives in Raleigh, N.C.

John F. King ’70, MUS ED, has retired as a music teacher at Les Bois Junior High School in Boise, Idaho, where he also resides.

John A. Lasater ’70, BIO, ’75 M BIO, works for Albuquerque Public Schools New Futures in Albuquerque, N.M., where he also lives.

Roy L. Stogsdill ’70, EL E, has retired as supervisor and electrical engineer at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, Ga., where he also lives.

Donna E. (Roths) Sweet ’70, BIO, ’72 M BIO, director of internal medicine education at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita, where she resides, has taken the position of chairwoman of the board of regents of the American College of Physicians.

John C. Gaston ’71, SEC ED, ’73 M SEC ED, is dean of the College of Arts at Valdosta State in Valdosta, Ga., where he also resides.

David C. “Dave” Gurtner ’71, BUS ADM, has retired as a senior systems analyst from USAF Headquarters at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He lives in Woodstock, Va.

David B. Haakinson ’71, BUS ADM, has retired as a statistical process control specialist at AlliedSignal Aerospace Division in Rocky Mount, N.C. He lives in Wilson, N.C.

Margaret J. “Peggy” Janda-Maier ’71, HIST, has retired after 30 years teaching math and German for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Asmara, Eritrea and Frankfurt and Heidelberg, Germany. She lives in Frankfurt.*

Peter E. Thomas ’71, M BUS ADM, is a trust officer in the private wealth management division of Intrust Bank of Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Anetta K. (Shockey) Webster ’71, PE, a physical education teacher at Jardine Middle School in Wichita, where she lives, was honored as a 2004 state physical education teacher of the year.

James R. “Jim” Ingle ’72, SOC, has retired from Miller Brewing Co. of Milwaukee, Wis., where he was a manager of sales information. He lives in Gore, Va.*

David E. Malas ’72, EL E, is a quality consultant with NCR Corp. of Dayton, Ohio. He lives in Centerville, Ohio.

James M. Posey ’72, HIST, is general manager of Municipal Light & Power in Anchorage, Alaska, where he also resides.*

Danny L. “Dan” Qualls ’72, PSYCH, is adult ministries pastor at Rockford First Assembly Church in Rockford, Ill. He lives in Loves Park, Ill.

Rodney L. Schoonover ’72, ACCT, is a controller with National Beef Inc. in Dodge City, Kan., where he also resides.

Ronald L. Garber ’73, M MUS T/C, is music instructor at Butler Community College,  El Dorado, Kan., and director of Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus. He lives in Hesston, Kan.

Leonard W. “Len” Hudson ’73, POL S, publisher of The El Dorado Times, now also publishes The Augusta Daily Gazette. He lives in Augusta, Kan.

Jeffrey L. “Jeff” Turner ’73, MATH, ’77, E MGT, former general manager of Boeing Wichita, is now chief executive of Mid-Western Aircraft Systems Inc., which, with the sale of Boeing Wichita to Onex Corp., is now the world’s largest independent supplier of commercial aircraft structures and Wichita’s second-largest employer, behind Cessna Aircraft Co. Turner lives in Wichita.*

John H. Williams ’73, ENG L/LIT, head of acquisitions at WSU’s Ablah Library, has been awarded a President’s Distinguished Service Award for 21 years of service and his continuing work in streamlining the acquisitions process. He lives in Wichita.

Steven S. “Scott” Curtin ’74, M ACCT, a CPA with Grant Thornton LLP in Denver, Colo., where he also resides, was named one of the top 100 most influential practitioners 2005 by The National Public Accountant.

William C. Deeds ’74, PSYCH, is vice president of academic affairs at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he also resides.

Michael E. Steen ’74, ACCT, is regional director of the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Smyrna, Ga. He lives in Marietta, Ga.

Linda E. (Bradford) Webb ’74, M EL ED, a drama teacher at Wichita’s Northwest High School, has been named to the Kansas Thespian Hall of Fame. Webb lives in Wichita.

Danny R. “Dan” Bearden ’75, EL ED ’88 M EAS, a teacher with Wichita public schools, was honored for his 27 years as a Boy Scout troop leader by Plymouth Congregational Church (where the troop meets). He lives in Wichita.

M. Stephen “Steve” Brown ’75, M EAS, is dean of student affairs at Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Ark. He lives in Bella Vista, Ark.

Paul S. Goward ’75, AJ, has celebrated his first year as police chief of the Winter Haven, Fla., police department. He lives in Winter Haven.

James A. “Jim” Hess ’75, M POL S, is director of the Monona Terrace community and convention center in Madison, Wis., where he also resides.

Walter G. Kuykendall ’75, AJ, a retired Wichita Police Department lieutenant, is now police chief of Iola, Kan., where he resides.

Victorine L. “Vickie” (Robben) Mahon ’75, JOURN, is assistant attorney general for the state of Missouri. She lives in Jefferson City, Mo.*

Debra K. (Hess) Walters ’75, NURS, is a nurse practitioner for the Asthma & Allergy Association in Colorado Springs, Colo., where she also lives.

Calvin T. Bruton fs ’76, former WSU basketball player who became the second U.S. player recruited by the Australian National Basketball League, has been inducted into the ANBL Hall of Fame as a player and coach. He won national championships playing for Brisbane and Perth and later became the coach and general manager of the Canberra Cannons. Bruton has also been honored as a member of the ANBL’s 20th anniversary team, comprised of the top 10 all-time players. He lives in Canberra, Australia.

Thomas A. Eddy ’76, BUS ADM, is manager of equipment sales and service at Kansas Truck Equipment Co. in Wichita, where he lives.*

Rafael “Ray” Ferry-Torres ’76, PA, who was  among the first physician assistants to practice in Kansas, has retired after 30 years. He lives in Hiawatha, Kan.

Stephen F. “Steve” Fiol ’76, M MUS P, is vice president of academic affairs and dean of fine arts at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. He lives in Champaign, Ill.

Edna (Sanders) Gentry ’76, EL ED, second-grade teacher at St. Mary’s Parish School, Derby, Kan., is a 2005 Distinguished Teacher for the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. She lives in Wichita.

Maurice A. Harley ’76, ACCT, a senior financial analyst for Crossland Construction Co. of Columbus, was elected mayor of Girard, Kan., in April. Harley lives in Girard.

Larry L. Lewis ’76, BUS ADM, is CEO of KC Investments LLC in Castle Rock, Colo., where he also resides.

Daniel R. McClure ’76, AA AJ, ’78 AJ, is a battalion chief with the Wichita Fire Department. He lives in Wichita.

Steven L. “Steve” Walts ’76, EL ED, ’89 M EAS, has been appointed to a four-year term as superintendent of Prince William County (Manassas, Va.) public schools, which serve approximately 66,000 students enrolled in 80 schools.*

Judith A. Dorrell ’77, SP, is director of admissions at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Chicago, Ill., where she also lives.*

Elaine Robinson-Fraction ’77, JOURN, is a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board in Atlanta, Ga. She lives in Snellville, Ga.

Robert L. Emmart ’78, PSYCH, leads Wichita’s Via Christi Medical Center’s Outreach Case Management program, designed to help the uninsured find regular medical care. He resides in Wichita.*

Tona L. Leiker ’78, NURS, ’84 M NURS, chair of the nursing department of Tabor College-Wichita, has been awarded the Patricia A. Devine Award for Excellence in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Practice by the Kansas State Nurses Association. She lives in Andover, Kan.*

Esther D. (Branine) Oppliger ’78, NURS, ’91 M NURS, is a clinical nurse specialist at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kan., where she resides.

Kenneth E. Pierce ’78, M AJ, has retired as a major in the Shawnee County (Kan.) Sheriff’s Department after more than 35 years of service. He lives in Topeka, Kan.

Peri A. Widener ’78, JOURN, formerly senior executive for integrated defense systems for Boeing Co. in Huntsville, Ala., is vice president of Boeing Workplace Services. She lives in Huntsville.

Cynthia “Cindy” S. Angle ’79, EL ED, a sixth-grade science teacher at Wilbur Middle School in Wichita, where she lives, is among the 95 national winners of the 2004 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Roger D. Barnes ’79, AJ, has retired as senior partner of Insightful Directives LLC in Madison, Tenn., where he also lives.

Michael A. Dorsey ’79, MED T, ’84 M BUS ADM, is chief operating officer at St. Francis Health Center in Topeka, Kan., where he also resides.

Jean B. Elliott ’79, SEC ED, ’81 M SEC ED, an academic adviser for WSU’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been honored with the Wayne Carlisle Distinguished Service Award for 23 years of service, notably her roles in advising student athletes and developing Dealing with Diversity, a course now required in many undergraduate LAS programs. She lives inWichita.

Thomas J. Gluszek ’79, AERON E, ’88 M AERON E, has been named an associate technical fellow by the Boeing Co., Wichita. He lives in Derby, Kan.*

Joanne H. (Hamlin) Smith ’79, M SPG, associate vice president of student affairs at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, has been honored by the school’s department of multicultural and gender studies as Outstanding Faculty Member for Women’s History Month (March). She lives in Universal City, Texas.

Tim W. Stringer ’79, EL E, is a project engineer with Black & Veatch in Kansas City, Mo. He lives in Lawrence, Kan.

Tara L. Walker ’79, ART ED, who teaches art at North High School, Wichita, has been named a Distinguished Classroom Teacher by the Wichita Board of Education. She resides in Wichita.

Fredrick E. Betzen ’80, MCH E, ’82 M MCH E, is vice president of manufacturing for Huhtamaki Packaging Co. in De Soto, Kan. He lives in Lenexa, Kan.

Clarence D. “Clancy” Holeman ’80, POL S, former assistant Sedgwick County attorney, is county counselor for the Riley County counselor’s office in Manhattan, Kan., where he also lives.

J. Michael “Mike” Lamb ’80, SOC, is associate vice president for planned giving and development services for the WSU Foundation. He lives in Hesston, Kan.*

Douglas L. Penner ’80, MKT, ’81 M PE, is vice president and CFO of Panasonic Avionics System Co., headquartered in Bothell, Wash. PAS is the world leader in providing in-flight entertainment systems on board commercial airlines, with more than 2,100 employees worldwide and annual sales exceeding $600 million. Penner lives in Sammamish, Wash.

Kimberly A. (Becker) Thomas ’80, EL ED, ’84 M EL ED, fifth-grade math teacher at McLean Science and Technology Magnet Elementary School in Wichita, is one of 95 national winners of the 2004 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She lives in Wichita.

Tim J. Watt ’80, BIO, is a partner with Neurosurgical & Spinal Surgery Associates in Rapid City, S.D., and part owner of the Black Hills Surgery Center Specialty Hospital. He lives in Rapid City.

Gary D. Wilkerson ’80, M EL ED, a kindergarten teacher at Tanglewood Elementary School in Derby, Kan., was a finalist for the 2004 Kansas Teacher of the Year Award. He lives in Wichita.

Nancy E. (Woods) Bacon ’81, MED T, is COO of William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kan. She lives in Augusta, Kan.

Jeffrey W. “Jeff” Donham ’81, MKT, is a mortgage loan originator for Prairie State Bank’s east Wichita branch. He lives in Wichita

William K. “Bill” Gardner ’81, RELUE, ’83 ART G, owner of Gardner Design, a Wichita-based firm specializing in branding and corporate identity, has had LogoLounge 2: 2,000 International Identities by Leading Designers published by Rockport Publishers. LogoLounge 2 and Gardner’s first book, LogoLounge, are offshoots of LogoLounge.com, a website he created as a way for graphic designers to share their work. He resides in Wichita.

Kelly B. Harrison ’81, EL E, ’85 M E MGT, ’94 M BUS ADM, is vice president of Western Resources in Topeka, Kan. He lives in Lawrence, Kan.

Randolph P. “Randy” Johnston ’81, M COMP S, executive vice president of Network Management Group in Hutchinson, Kan., where he lives, has been named one of 2004’s top 100 most influential people in accounting by Accounting Today.

Timothy R. Mitchell ’81, PSYCH, is a case manager with Franklin County Mental Health in Ottawa, Kan., where he also lives.

Laurie A. (Reed) Niederee ’81, NURS, is an anesthesiologist at Altaview Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she resides.

Teresa K. “Terre” (Eikenberry) Graham ’82, CDS, ’83 M CDS, ’01 PHD CDS, is an assistant professor of communicative disorders and sciences at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. She lives in Olathe, Kan.

Harriet “Bunny” (Helman) Hill ’82, M ENG, head of Wichita Collegiate Middle School and a 35-year veteran in education, has been inducted into the Kansas Association of Independent and Religious Schools’ Hall of Fame. She is the hall’s only female member. She lives in Wichita.

Randall “Randy” Smithson ’82, BUS, ’89 M PE, former WSU basketball player and coach, has returned as men’s basketball coach to Butler Community College, El Dorado, Kan., where he built the basketball program into a national power over 11 seasons, winning four Region VI and six Jayhawk Conference titles in the 1990s. During his four-year stint as men’s head coach at WSU, Smithson posted a 55-62 record and went 14-13 with his first Shocker team, ending a string of seven losing seasons.
