D. Cramer Reed ’37, BIO, retired physician, is the University of Kansas Alumni Association’s 2006 Honorary Medical Alumnus Award honoree. Named dean of the College of Health Professions at WSU in 1970, Reed became founding dean of the KU School of Medicine-Wichita in 1971. During his prolific medical career, he also served as an executive at Wesley Medical Center and developed programs for the Kansas Health Foundation in Wichita, where he lives.*
Julianne D. McLean fs ’46, a concert pianist and alumna of the Kansas City Conservatory and the Julliard School, attended a reunion of survivors of the sinking of the Andrea Doria, which was rammed by the SS Stockholm in dense fog off the coast of Massachusetts on July 25, 1956. Fifty-one people died, 46 from the Andrea Doria and five from the Stockholm. The 50th anniversary reunion event was held in New York. McLean resides in Wichita.
Donald “Don” W. Rude ’59, JOURN, ’61 M ENG, teaches English at Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va., and edits Conradiana, a journal of Joseph Conrad studies. He traveled to Europe last summer to deliver lectures on Conrad during a conference at Marie Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland, and at the annual meeting of the British Joseph Conrad Society in London. Rude lives in Blacksburg.*
Justus H. Fugate ’60, MATH, ’62 M MATH, has been elected chairman of the board of directors for Kansas Venture Capital Inc., the oldest venture capital company in the state. Fugate, who is a member of the WSU Foundation National Advisory Council and Board of Directors, lives in Wichita.*
