Dorothy Jean (Thompson) Wylie ’42, SEC ED, is a retired home economics teacher. She lives in Bloomington, Minn.*

Betty J. Deshler ’46, PSYCH, a retired associate professor of social work at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., received, in 1985, the university’s Alumni Teaching Excellence Award for exceptional teaching skills and professional expertise. She now lives in Green Valley, Ariz.*

Daniel M. “Dan” Carney ’53, ECON, owner and president of Wichita-based Gaelic Management, is a returning board member for The Wichita Community Foundation, which was established in 1985 to build charitable endowments that benefit Wichita and its region. Carney lives in Wichita.*

Donald J. “Don” Ablah ’54, POL S, a realtor with Classic Real Estate, Wichita, is a board member for Starkey Inc., an organization that serves people with developmental disabilities. He lives in Wichita.*

E. Keith Bray ’54, M EAD, is a retired educational administrator. He resides in Silver Lake, Kan.

Jacqueline C. (La Porte) Oakes ’55, SEC ED, is a state lobbyist with Oakes Consulting Services Inc. in Independence, Kan., where she lives. *

Gaynelle “Gay” (Koci) Campbell ’59, SEC ED, the director of communications for the Everett, Wash., public school district, has been awarded the 2003 National School Public Relations Association’s President’s Award for her outstanding contributions to the field of educational public relations. Campbell lives in Everett.

Ronald R. Riley ’60, BIOL, a retired dentist, assists as a dental educator at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. He resides in Kansas City, Mo.*

Bob G. Scott ’60, CH M, owner of Prairie Pines Christmas Tree Farm, Maize, Kan., has announced a $300,000 expansion to the farm, which hosts corporate parties, community events and weddings. Scott and his family have been operating Prairie Pines for 30 years. He lives in Maize.*

Allan K. “Al” Higdon ’61, JOURN, retired co-founder of Sullivan, Higdon & Sink, a Wichita-based advertising firm, serves as professional in residence with the Elliott School of Communication at WSU. He resides in Wichita.*

Mary A. (Harms) Beattie ’62, BIOL, has retired from the Wichita Clinic after more than 25 years as a pediatrician. Beattie, who entered the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1970, became the first woman chief resident of pediatrics at the KU Medical Center in 1977. She lives in Wichita.

Bernard R. Malkmus ’62, M BUS A, is a retired chief of fiscal control at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. One of 11 NASA-related research centers, laboratories and flight centers, Marshall is the world leader in the access to space and use of space for research and development to benefit humanity. Malkmus lives in Decatur, Ala.

A.C. Rogers ’63, M MCH E, has been a full-time lecturer in the division of engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio since his retirement from the Southwest Research Institute in 1997. He lives in San Antonio.

Phillip R. “Phil” Neff ’64, MKT, national benefits practice leader for Willis North America, a leading global insurance broker that develops and delivers a variety of insurance services to corporations, public entities and institutions, has been named vice chairman of The Wichita Community Foundation for 2003-04. The foundation, which was established in 1985 to build charitable endowments and serve its donors, consists of numerous permanent funds given by individuals, families and companies that care about Wichita and its region. Neff resides in Wichita.

Marvin F. Bahr ’65, M SPG, has been promoted to senior financial adviser with Waddell & Reed in Great Bend, Kan. Waddell & Reed, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., has been in the financial services business for 65 years, with more than 250 offices nationwide. Bahr lives in Great Bend.

Raymond A.M. “Ray” Jones ’66, SPAN, serves as area emergency manager for the Veterans Affairs Heartland Network in Kansas City, Mo. Jones is in charge of assessing the availability of beds for wounded soldiers during times of war. He resides in Shawnee Mission, Kan.*

Kenneth L. Crockett ’67, SP, serves as corporate vice president for Warren Theaters in Wichita and recently oversaw the opening of a new Warren Theater in the city’s Old Town area, where theater patrons can have mixed drinks and food delivered directly to their seats. Crockett lives in Wichita.

James B. “Jim” Hattan ’67, ADMN, owner of Don Hattan Chevrolet, set a dealership record in April when he sold 239 cars, trucks and vans. This garnered him the No. 5 national ranking for General Motors’ fleet dealers. Hattan resides in Wichita.

Gerald H. Holman ’67, AEROE, ’70, M BUS A, senior vice president of the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce, also handles environmental issues for the organization. Holman and other city figures are monitoring the city’s production of ground-level ozone, which is on the increase. Being out of compliance with federal regulations governing the standards of ozone could bring mandatory changes to the city, including a vehicle maintenance and inspection program. Holman lives in Wichita.*

Kirk E. Turner ’67, BUS A, who worked as the information technology project manager for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, is now the senior director for information technology for the Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada, one of the 75 largest school districts in the country. He lives in Sparks, Nev.

Larry D. Larsen ’68, MCH E, is president of Larsen’s Outdoor Publishing, which specializes in books on topics of special interests to outdoorsmen. Outdoor Publishing is based in Lakeland, Fla., where Larsen makes his home.

David E. “Dave” Sproul ’68, ADMN, president and owner of Sproul Construction Co., Wichita, serves on the 2003 board of advisors for the Kansas Construction Network. Sproul lives in Wichita.

Sandra R. (Davis) Whittington ’68, M SPG, a secondary teacher for Wichita Public Schools, has been elected to the board of directors for the Kansas Children’s Service League, a private, nonprofit organization serving children and families throughout the state by offering parenting education, foster homes and raising community awareness of family issues. She resides in Wichita.

Sandra M. “Sandy” Bennett ’69, CDS, ’70 M CDS, is a speech-language pathologist with Area Educational Agency in Marshalltown, Iowa, where she lives.

Linda L. (Throckmorton) Bert ’69, EL ED, is a special education teacher with the Catalina Hills School District, Tucson, Ariz. She lives in Tucson.

Bonnie L. (Smithen) Hanson ’69, EL ED, personnel director at the Wichita office of Weigand-Omega Management, a worldwide commercial real estate service company, has been elected to the board of directors of the Kansas Children’s Service League, a private, nonprofit organization serving children and families throughout the state. She resides in Wichita.

Nancy J. Martin ’69, PSYCH, COO of Emergency Services PA, which provides emergency room doctors to Wichita’s second largest hospital, Wesley Medical Center, is the immediate past chair of the Wichita Community Foundation, which was established in 1985. She resides in Wichita.*

Christopher S. “Chris” Shank ’69, POL S, vice president of Dulaney Johnston & Priest, Wichita, has been named Industry Person of the Year by Insurance Women of Wichita, a professional association dedicated to promoting insurance education, supporting the professional advancement of its members, cultivating fellowship among members and strengthening loyalty to the industry. Shank lives in Wichita.*

John G. Conyers ’70, M EADS, has retired as superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 15 in Palatine, Ill. Conyers, who worked for the school district for 18 years and was instrumental in bringing special education services back to the district in 1995, was honored by school board members who voted unanimously to name the district’s newly renovated special programs school the John G. Conyers Learning Academy. Conyers, who resides in Palatine, has also been appointed examiner for the 2003 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.*

Paul B. Harrison ’71, BIOL, is a trauma doctor at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, where he lives.*

Susan Hund-Milne ’71, JOURN, publisher and editor of Spotlight On Wichita, an entertainment and reference guide to the city, has been recognized by Kansas Professional Communicators (formerly Kansas Press Women). The organization named Spotlight On Wichita the best non-fiction book in its 2003 Communications Contest. Hund-Milne resides in Wichita.

Brock M. Jabara ’71, EE, ’93 M BUS A, owns Galaxy Audio Inc. in Wichita. The company manufactures and supplies audio equipment to musicians and other professionals. Jabara resides in Derby, Kan.

Kathleen M. McAtee ’71, SEC ED, ’81 SPG, has retired from Newton, Kan., public schools, after first teaching English, then serving as a guidance counselor for 20 years. She lives in North Newton, Kan.

Harold G. Siemens ’71, ADMN, president of Kansas Secured Title-Sedgwick County, has announced that the company will open a new location in Derby, Kan., and consolidate its other offices into one location in Wichita’s Old Town area. Siemens lives in Wichita.

Barry L. Downing ’72, EE, the CEO for Corporate Lodging Consultants, which develops and implements lodging programs that reduce hotel expenses for corporations, has been re-elected to The Wichita Community Foundation for 2003-04. Established in 1985 to build charitable endowments and serve its donors, the foundation consists of numerous permanent funds given by individuals, families and companies who care about Wichita and its region. Downing lives in Wichita.

Dianna K. “Diane” Harper ’72, EL ED, ’78 M SPG, a principal and educator with the Newton, Kan., public schools, has retired after 31 years. She resides in Valley Center, Kan.

Jerald R. “Jerry” Juhnke ’72, MUS ED, ’76 MUS P, financial adviser for Juhnke, Campbell & Associates, the Wichita office of American Express, is a member of the American Express Advanced Advisor Group. He lives in Wichita.

Roberta L. “Bobbie” Merseal ’72, NURS, is a registered nurse and medical case manager for Concentra Integrated Services in Kimberling City, Mo., where she resides.

Lana S. (Tittel) Charles ’73, NURS, a registered nurse, serves as staff nurse with PMA-Northeast Family Physicians in Wichita, where she lives.

M. Rick Smith ’73, ENG LIT, ’73 FREN, ’86 M ENG, a tenured, associate professor at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, served as director for the 2002 Ohio Shakespeare Conference. He resides in Warren, Ohio.

Susan E. (Howard) Cornett ’74, ECON, works as a loan closer for Suntrust Mortgage Inc. in Englewood, Colo. She lives in Denver, Colo.

James R. Pond ’74, C AJ, ’76 AJ, ’89 EDP, teaches psychology and sociology at Butler County Community College in Andover, Kan., where he lives.

Michael D. “Mike” Warren ’74, ACCT, is president, CEO and CFO of BNS Co. (formerly Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co.), one of the oldest companies in America. Based in North Kingstown, R.I., BNS is undergoing voluntary liquidation. Warren is charged with selling the remaining assets and establishing a liquidating trust. He is also president of Michael Warren Associates Inc. and CFO of MedSelfEd Inc. He resides in Newport, R.I.*

Steven A. Bryant ’75, MED T, ’83 M BIOL, an optometrist with his own practice in Concordia, Kan., has been named to the 2003-04 board of directors for The Kansas Optometric Association as a zone president. Bryant resides in Concordia.

Robert O. Hitchings ’75, A AJ, is a retired Boeing Wichita purchasing agent residing in Gold Canyon, Ariz.*

Arneatha K. Martin ’75, NURS, ’80 M NURS, president and CEO of the Center for Health & Wellness in Wichita, has been named to the board of directors for the American Lung Association of Kansas. Martin also serves on the board of the Regional Prevention Center of Wichita/Sedgwick County. She lives in Wichita.*

Janiece E. (Sweeney) Moreland ’75, C NURS C, ’85 NURS, is a nurse practitioner with Geriatrix in Phoenix, Ariz., a company active in all aspects of eldercare. Moreland resides in Phoenix.

Cynthia L. “Cindy” Tannehill ’75, SP, ’83 COMM, serves as president of Rytan Database Marketing Inc., a provider of outsourcing solutions for information and management support services. Tannehill lives in Wichita.*

Joe L. Barnes ’76, BIOL, a physician with Smith County Family Practice in Smith Center, Kan., has been elected to the board of directors for the Brooke Corp. Listed on the American Stock Exchange as BXX, Brooke Corp. is the parent company of a family of companies serving the insurance and financial services market. Barnes lives in Smith Center.

Sabrina Wells ’76, POL S, is director of financial services at the Kansas Insurance Department in Topeka, Kan., where she resides.

Kathy L. (Frederick) Wilson ’76, EL ED, ’83 SP EAD, has retired after 32 years in education. Her last six years of teaching were spent at Newton, Kan., public schools. She lives in Wichita.*

Tina R. Biles ’77, ART H, is an art director at Stucky Design Inc., Wichita. The design firm offers graphic design services, including brand identity and development and logo design. She lives in Wichita.

Ted A. Branson ’77, PSYCH, is sales manager for Coldwell Banker Commercial’s commercial real estate division. He resides in Bel Aire, Kan.

Christopher G. “Chris” Costello ’77, ADMN, is president of Tampa State Bank in Tampa, Kan. He resides in Marion, Kan.*

Kathryn L. (Wike) Hulse ’77, NURS, is the human resources officer for both the Army and the Air Force National Guard in Kansas. She lives in Augusta, Kan.

Kathryn A. (Higley) Price ’77, ART G, is a sales associate with Re/Max Realty Professionals in Wichita, where she lives.

Richard B. Campbell ’78, MUS P, a financial adviser for Juhnke, Campbell & Associates, the Wichita office of American Express, has been appointed as a member of the American Express Advanced Advisor Group. He lives in Wichita.

Steven J. “Steve” Martens fs ’78, president of The Martens Companies, a real estate enterprise specializing in commercial land and properties, investment properties and property management, serves on the board of advisers of the Kansas Construction Network. He lives in Wichita.

Gary A. Farha ’79, FIN, serves as director of McKinsey & Co., a management consulting firm that advises top management of leading companies and institutions on issues of strategy, organization, technology and operations. The firm, which has offices in 44 countries, is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Farha resides in Potomac, Md.*

Eric F. Melgren ’79, SP/THEA, is the U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas. A former partner and attorney with Wichita-based Foulston Siefkin LLP, Melgren now oversees some 2,000 civil and criminal cases annually for the U.S. government. He also administers and chairs the Weed and Seed program, which seeks to cut crime in disadvantaged areas of the state. Melgren, who is a former WSU student body president and a past WSU Alumni Association president, lives in Wichita.*

Michael R. Martin ’80, GEN S, registered representative and stockbroker with England Securities in Wichita, has been named by the company to the Platinum tier of the Inner Circle, which recognizes excellence in the areas of client services and investment sales. Martin was among the top 50 honorees from a field of more than 3,000 and was chosen specifically because of his commitment to serving the long-term financial needs of his clients. He lives in Augusta, Kan.

Marilyn A. (Stalter) Newby ’80, C NURS C, serves as a family nurse practitioner for Lovelace Health Systems, a nationally recognized health care organization known for pioneering innovative methods to advance medical science, technology, research and methods of delivering care to better serve patients’ health care and health insurance needs. Newby lives and works in Albuquerque, N.M.

Rodney F. “Rod” Nuckolls ’80, ADMN, is co-owner of Willowbend Golf Course in Wichita and a purchasing manager for Internet and Wichita golf equipment retailer The Golf Warehouse. Nuckolls resides in Wichita.

Robin M. “Robb” Rose ’80, RT, the director of marketing operations at HealthSouth Wesley Rehabilitation Hospital, Wichita, has received a master’s degree in human resource development from Webster University. Rose, a Boarded Disability Analyst, served as volunteer operations manager for the American Lung Association’s Walk-A-Thon, held at Wichita State on Oct. 4. He resides in Wichita.*

Carol A. Skaff ’80, ENG LIT, works as an account executive for Melissa Cohlmia Marketing, a marketing, advertising and public relations firm located in the Old Town area of Wichita. She lives in Wichita.*

Douglas A. “Doug” Weber ’80, AA URB A, ’85 GEN S, is a library assistant for the acquisitions department in WSU’s Ablah Library. He resides in Wichita.

John R. Ast ’81, M BUS A, director of operations and manufacturing for LSI Logic, a Wichita-based company specializing in high-performance, scalable storage and storage management platforms, also serves as vice chairman for the World Trade Council. Ast lives in Wichita.*

James R. “Jim” Bryant ’81, ACCT, is vice president of CCH Prosystem FX, a Wichita-based company that specializes in developing tax law software. Bryant, who manages 900 employees in eight cities, resides in Valley Center, Kan.

L. David Donovan ’81, AA MATH, ’87 GEN S, works as a network engineer for Boeing Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Paul W. Dotson ’81, AJ, ’02 M CJ, a former Wichita Police Department captain and bureau commander, has been named chief of police for WSU. Dotson, who has taught several criminal justice courses at the university since 1994, has also been a lead research associate for the university’s Juvenile Justice Research Center in the School of Community Affairs since 2002. He resides in Wichita.*

Gloria G. Farha Flentje fs ’81, an attorney for Boeing Wichita, has been reelected to the board of trustees for the Regional Prevention Center of Wichita/Sedgwick County, an organization that strives to prevent drug abuse in the city and county. Farha Flentje lives in Wichita.*

John J. “Joe” Kisner ’81, ECON, has been appointed to a Sedgwick County District Court judgeship by Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Kisner, who formerly headed the Sedgwick County district attorney’s economic crimes division, has been a prosecutor in Wichita for more than 16 years. Kisner lives in Wichita.*

Gerard C. Scott ’81, AJ, handles medical malpractice cases for the law firm of Schoenhofer & Scott in Wichita. Scott is a partner in the firm. He resides in Wichita.

Jo Nell (Burgess) Wells ’81, M NURS, serves as assistant professor of nursing at the Harris School of Nursing at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She resides in Argyle, Texas.

Angela J. (Ferguson) Allard ’83, GEN S, is a partner and attorney with Austin & Ferguson LLC in Kansas City, Mo. She resides in Raytown, Mo.

Kenneth J. “Ken” Fisher ’83, CH BUS, ’92 M BUS A, is senior vice president with the Coleman Co. in Wichita, where he lives.*

Carl L. Harris ’83, MKT, vice president of the Carl Harris Co. Inc., has been named to the board of advisors for the Kansas Construction Network. He resides in Wichita.*

Kelvin B. Middleton ’83, A HUM, ’88, GEN S, serves as director of the Frank J. Johnson Recreation Center within the Department of Parks and Recreation in Macon, Ga. He resides in Lizella, Ga.

Kimberly A. (Krueger) Smith ’83, PSYCH, is a manager of information, tickets and travel at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, where she resides.

Roberta J. (McCarthy) Toms ’83, NURS, ’87 M NURS, serves as director of nursing professional development and education at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She lives in The Woodlands, Texas.

David J. Copeland ’84, GEN S, has been named vice president of worldwide piston sales for the Raytheon Aircraft Co. He resides in Wichita.*

Clifford E. “Cliff” Levingston fs ’84, head coach of the Dodge City Legends and former player in the NBA, has been named U.S. Basketball League Coach of the Year.

Lynda L. (Cook) Pletcher ’84, M EL ED, serves as a consultant for the National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center, a federal contract which provides assistance, information and support to states implementing idea (Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act) and other federal programs with the goal of improving services for young children from birth to 8 years old with disabilities. Pletcher is working from the Frank Proter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She resides in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Galen E. Eberhardt ’85, PE/R, owns JME Sports in Derby, Kan., where he resides.

Bryan D. Otte ’85, PE, ’90 PE, a composition and math teacher at Moundridge Middle School in Moundridge, Kan., has been named the 2002-03 Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Kansas Coachs’ Association. Otte is the head girls’ volleyball coach at Moundridge High, where his six-year record is 201-21. His teams have appeared in six consecutive state championship matches and have won four titles: 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2002. Otte lives in Valley Center, Kan.*

Brenda D. (Posey) Way ’85, ACCT, is a financial analyst for High Touch Inc., a Wichita-based company that develops and provides software in the area of rent-to-own business, financial services and education. Way lives in Haysville, Kan.

Lynne E. Wentz ’85, NURS, ’87 M HS, works as a government account executive for Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Crete, Ill. Wentz previously served as a scientific liaison with company. She resides in Crete.

Joan M. (Stibal) Carter ’86, JOURN, who works in the customer relations division of the Coleman Co., Wichita, is a winner in the Kansas Professional Communicators (formerly Kansas Press Women) 2003 Communications Contest, placing first in news reporting, internal communications; second in manuals and handbooks; third in newsletter one-to-four-page color; and receiving honorable mention in single page edited by entrant. Carter, a former communications director and assistant executive director for the WSU Alumni Association, lives in Newton, Kan.*

Tracy S. Cassil ’86, ACCT, is a junior vice president in international finance for Cessna Finance Corp. in Wichita. She lives in Newton, Kan.

John A. Pilla ’86, M AEROE, ’02 M BUS A, who formerly directed business operations and new programs at Boeing Wichita, now directs the 7E7 for the Wichita division. He lives in Wichita.*

Linda L. (Sill) Shane ’86, AA NS/MATH, owns L.L. Shane Consulting, which provides design and web hosting services. She lives in Wichita.

Blair P. Sullivan ’86, M BUS A, is regional sales director (southwest) for the Raytheon Aircraft Co. in Wichita, where he resides.

Melanie L. (Shenk) Bockwinkel ’87, MATH, is corporate benefits HRMS manager for Huhtamaki Americas in De Soto, Kan. Huhtamaki is a Finnish owned, global packaging company that also owns the Chinet brand. She resides in Shawnee, Kan.*

Rhonda K. Fullerton ’87, MGT, ’94 M BUS A, manager of corporate and community affairs for Cessna, has been honored by The Wichita Business Journal as one of Wichita’s 40 Under 40. Criteria for this recognition includes professional accomplishment, community involvement and volunteer activity. She lives in Wichita.

Mark E. Hutton fs ’87, president of Hutton Construction Corp., Wichita, has been named to the 2003 board of advisors for The Kansas Construction Network. He lives in Wichita.

Kelly J. (Welch) McCleary ’87, FIN, ’92 , is a controller for Excel Corp. in Wichita. Excel is a leading processor of fresh beef, pork and fully prepared meats that are sold around the world. She resides in Wichita.

Bruce K. Rowley fs ’87, is president and chief marketing officer for Associated Advertising in Wichita, where he resides.

Betty C. Trout-Kelly ’87, COUNS PSYCH, serves as executive to the president for institutional diversity/equity at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She resides in Bath, Maine.

John M. Trowbridge ’87, ACCT, is a CPA and owner of Andover CPAs PA in Andover, Kan. The firm was recently named Business of the Month by the Andover Journal-Advocate. Trowbridge lives in Andover.*

Alissa D. (Kamp) Unruh ’87, INT S, works as a residential Realtor with J.P. Weigand & Sons Inc. She lives in Wichita.*

Brenda J. (Smith) Gray ’88, JOURN, director of university relations at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, has been elected to a second term as secretary for the board of Sunflower Foundation Health Care for Kansas. She lives in Wichita.

Joseph W. Hogan ’88, ACCT, is a partner with Consulting Technology Partners LLC, which offers its clients expertise in data warehousing, budgeting and planning, consolidations and reporting and business analytics and intelligence. Hogan lives and works in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Wesley A. “Wes” Clary ’89, ACCT, is a CPA and owner of Andover CPAs PA in Andover, Kan. The firm was recently named Business of the Month by the Andover Journal-Advocate. Clary resides in Wichita.*

Greg B. Edwards ’89, AV MGT, a former executive vice president and senior partner for the Ryan Partnership in Atlanta, Ga., an independently owned full-service advertising agency, is now senior vice president of consumer brand marketing and communications for Noble & Associates in Springfield, Mo., which represents many of the nation’s leading companies.

Kami D. (Travillion) Gillespie ’89, EL ED, is a sixth grade reading teacher at Pepperell Middle School in Lindale, Ga. She resides in Rome, Ga.

Tracy L. Holdeman ’89, ART G, serves as an art director and graphic designer with Insight Design Communications, which was recently selected to create a new logo for Wichita’s Old Town area. He lives in Wichita.
