Herbert L. James ’49, HIST, Dartmouth College Israel Evans professor emeritus, owns Krystal Dynasty Pekinese Kennel in Meriden, N.H. He resides in Meriden.*

Dan M. Carney ’53, ECON, owner and president of Gaelic Management, Wichita, is one of four 2003 inductees into the Kansas Business Hall of Fame, located at Emporia State University. Carney and his brother, Frank ’00, GEN S, were honored  as founders of Pizza Hut during the annual Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry Caucus banquet in February. He resides in Wichita.*

Rodger D. Vaughan ’56, M MUS C, a noted musician and composer and former California State University-Fullerton professor of music, has had one of his original symphony scores presented to the Halstead Historical Society. His symphony in three movements was selected as the official Kansas Centennial orchestral composition in 1960. Vaughan lives in Palmer Lake, Colo.

Jon K. Kardatzke ’57, CHEM, is director of the Museum of World Treasures in Wichita. A retired family practice physician, Kardatzke has been collecting ancient artifacts and historic memorabilia for more than 25 years. He resides in Wichita.

Bill J. Wiesner ’59, BUS, is vice president, sales for the Purifan Co. in Wichita, where he lives.*

Bonnie J. (Blackwell) Matles ’60, ED, is office manager for U.S. Representative Amos Houghton in Washington, D.C. She lives in Alexandria, Va.*

Bill K. “Billy” Kentling ’62, ENG LIT, is director of sales and marketing for Morris Communications, WIBW Radio and the Kansas Radio Networks of Topeka. He lives in Topeka.

Fredric C. “Butch” Bright ’64, PSYCH, has retired from Cessna Aircraft Co., Wichita. He lives in Sedgwick, Kan.*

Margaret J. (Thompson) Miller ’64, EAD, a retired teacher, is a community activist especially involved with Citizens for Recycling. She lives in Wichita.

R. Bruce Bachelder ’65, M SPG, of Donrey Media Group, Wichita, serves as American Advertising Federation of Wichita vice president of events for the 2002-03 program year. He resides in Wichita.

Richard S. “Dick” Klein ’65, PE, is an account executive at Graphic Systems in Wichita, where he resides.*

Rudy V. Nydegger ’66, PSYCH, ’69 M PSYCH, a private practitioner and psychology professor at Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., is president of the New York State Psychological Association, the state affiliate of the American Psychological Association. He lives in Glenville, N.Y.*

Lynne K. (Crossnoe) Snyder ’67, EL ED, ’76 M EL ED, school psychologist for the Cowley County Special Services Cooperative, is serving a one-year appointment as visiting instructor in education at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan. She resides in Winfield.

Carolyn L. (White) Bridges ’68, EL ED, ’74 M EADS, is a literacy coach at Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, Fla. She lives in Clermont, Fla.*

Arthur J. “Jim” Mahoney ’69, POL S, Academy School District No. 20 executive director of curriculum and instruction, is founding principal of Academy International Elementary School, the first school authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years program. He lives in Colorado Springs, Colo.*

Steven J. “Steve” Davies ’70, EL ED, ’77 SP EAD, ’80 M AJ, is superintendent of USD 430 in Horton, Kan., where he lives.*

Max L. Harris ’70, JOURN, retired president of Harris Advertising, Wichita, has written Straight Rows, a book of short stories about his farm childhood. On sale in several Wichita bookstores, the book also is available through amazon.com. Harris lives in Wichita.

Richard D. Prouse ’70, SP/RADIOTV, is an account executive with Harvest Graphics, Lenexa, Kan. He resides in Lenexa.

Gregory T. Avers ’71, PE, a social studies teacher at Council Grove High School, has been selected as the USD 417 Master Teacher for the 2002-03 school year. He resides in Council Grove, Kan.

Linda L. (Clark) Bowles ’71, ENG LIT, is a tax specialist in the Wichita Regional Office’s Taxpayer Education Unit of the Kansas Department of Revenue. She lives in Wichita.*

Paul B. Harrison ’71, BIOL, a trauma surgeon, oversees Wesley Medical Center’s trauma program. He resides in Wichita.*

Kathryn (Dyck) Kasper ’71, M A MUS, a music professor and assistant conductor at Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., was among those who performed at a benefit to support tuition expenses for a Bethel College music major from Bourgas, Bulgaria. Kasper, an alto who sang several selections at the benefit, lives in North Newton.

Valerie J. Stucky ’72, PSYCH, has retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration after 29 years with the federal government. Her last position was director of NASA’s Contracting Intern Program, which she developed as NASA’s only nationwide recruitment of contract managers. She lives in suburban Washington, D.C.*

Dennis E. Watt ’72, GEO, is a hydrologist with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Boulder City, Nev. He resides in Boulder City.

Wayne A. Becker ’73, ACCT, is senior vice president at Gold Bank in Overland Park, Kan. He resides in Parkville, Mo.*

Roger P. Carvalho ’73, ENG LIT, ’73 AMST, ’77 M COMM, is vice president of marketing for Feist Publications in Wichita, where he lives.*

Kim R. Cocklin ’73, AJ, ’75 M AJ, is senior vice president and general counsel for Piedmont Natural Gas in Charlotte, N.C. A member of the American Bar Association and the Kentucky Bar Association, Cocklin is responsible for the company’s legal affairs, corporate secretary, corporate communications, governmental and community relations activities.

James “Jim” N. Harrington ’73, EE, ’73 MCH E, is principal development engineer for Lumenis, Ltd., Pleasanton, Calif., a pioneer company in the laser and light-based industries. He resides in Pleasanton.*

Donald J. “Don” McGinty ’73, AA RT, ’76 BUS A, is owner and president of McGinty Machine Co. in Wichita, where he lives.

Barbara A. Moehring ’73, EL ED, ’95 EAS, is a real estate sales associate for Coldwell Banker Stucky and Associates in Wichita. She lives in Wichita.

Thomas B. “Tom” Smith ’73, POL S, ’76 M URB A, is the grants and aid coordinator for the city of Wichita. He lives in Wichita.*

James D. Young ’73, M BUS A, a Franklin University (Columbus, Ohio) professor who teaches undergraduate business leadership, management and statistics, has been awarded the Robert L. Bailey Teaching Award. The award is given each trimester to one undergraduate and one graduate faculty member who seniors believe have had the most significant influence on them throughout their collegiate experience. Young, who lives in Atlanta, Ga., was the first online faculty member to win this award.

John F. Andra ’74, ACCT, is a financial analyst for Cardinal Brands Inc. in Lawrence, Kan. He resides in Topeka, Kan.

Michael T. Daggett ’74, ACCT, a CPA with the firm of Daggett & Daggett, Phoenix, Ariz., is serving as director-at-large of the National Association of the State Boards of Accountancy. NASBA’s mission is to enhance the effectiveness of state boards of accountancy in meeting their regulatory responsibilities. He lives in Phoenix.

Leslie A. Eck ’74, ADMN, is owner and president of Rusty Eck Ford, Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Mary J. (Oeser) Galvin ’74, AA RT, ’85 RT, ’90 M HS, vice president of Gossen Livingston Associates Inc., Wichita, is vice president for support services with the Wichita chapter of the American Marketing Association. She resides in Wichita.

Joan C. (Howell) Loehr ’74, DH, ’79 ISEP, is a dentist at Howell & Loehr PA in Wichita, where she lives.*

Joe A. Newberry ’74, EE, ’77 M EE, principal engineer with Boeing’s product support division in Wichita, serves as secretary of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace. He lives in Derby, Kan.

Phillip D. Yearout ’74, M ART S, is division sales manager for North American Building Systems in Wichita. He resides in Andover, Kan.

Daytha E. Lindburg ’76, PA, has earned a graduate degree in physician assistant studies in obstetrics and gynecology from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and Allied Health Professions. A physician assistant at Mowery Clinic, Salina, Kan., she lives in Lindsborg, Kan.

Michael S. “Mike” Sandstrum ’76, ACCT, who recently earned a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University, has been promoted to the position of chief information officer for Moody-Price LLC in Baton Rouge, La. He resides in Baton Rouge.

Gloria J. Summers ’76, GER, ’82 M BUS A, research associate for United Way of the Plains, serves as director-at-large for the Wichita chapter of the American Marketing Association. She lives in Wichita.

Kay Diane (Riordan) Wiggins ’76, SEC ED, is owner of Kay Wiggins Jewelry in Wichita, where she resides.

Daniel D. “Dan” Brace ’78, ACCT, has been promoted to chief operating officer of Access Group LLC in Wichita. He resides in Wichita.

Douglas “Doug” Keeling fs ’78, attorney at law, is vice president of the board of directors for the Wichita Estate Planning Council. He lives in Wichita.

Michelle R. “Shellie” (Montague) Rappaport ’78, SP/RADIOTV, is a teacher at Oak Meadow Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas. She lives in San Antonio.*

A. Roy Roberts ’78, BIOL, an optometrist with Drs. Kuhlmann, Roberts & Janasek, Wichita, was elected to the first of three, two-year terms on the board of directors of the Heart of America Contact Lens Society, at its annual congress in Kansas City, Mo. A 1983 graduate of Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, Tenn., Roberts lives in Wichita.*

Susan K. (Schroeder) Duffy ’79, POL S, ’81 M POL S, has been appointed executive director of the Kansas Corporation Commission in Topeka, Kan. She lives in Topeka.

Judith M. “Judy” Finnell ’79, M GERON, has retired as executive director of Senior Services in Wichita. She resides in Wichita.*

Dianne L. (Banka) Offerman ’79, NURS, ’88 M NURS, a nurse educator and consultant with Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, has completed a chemotherapy trainer program and is now recognized as an official instructor for the Oncology Nursing Society Cancer Chemotherapy Course. Offerman resides in Wichita.*

Michael A. Ray ’79, EL ED, is CFO with Bankers’ Bank of Kansas, Wichita. He lives in Augusta, Kan.

Maryetta M. Regier ’79, M SEC ED, assistant professor of business education and office administration at Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan., has been presented the Kansas Business Educator Association’s 2002 Outstanding Post-Secondary Educator Award, an honor given in recognition of excellence in teaching and service to business education. She lives in Hillsboro.

Roberta M. “Bobbi” (Melson) Warren ’79, ACCT, is treasurer for Hinckley Allen & Snyder in Providence, R.I. She lives in Newport, R.I.*

Melissa M. (Bachrodt) Knott ’80, RE, is program director of Midwest LifeTeam LLC, an air ambulance company. She lives in Wichita.

Karla A. Burns ’81, MUS ED, ’81 SP/THEA, recently performed at the First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado, Kan. Burns is an award-winning Broadway and opera performer, having appeared in some of the most distinguished venues in the world

C. Beth (Stewart) Chapple ’81, BIOL, is vice president of strategic marketing for the Greteman Group, a Wichita-based advertising and design agency. She resides in Garden Plain, Kan.

Glenn E. Coffman ’81, RT, is director of operations at Heartland Hospice in Derby, Kan. He lives in Wichita.*

Janice D. (Unruh) Davidson ’81, NURS, ’84 M NURS, a professor of nursing at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., served as first author for the research abstract “Evidence-Based Practice and Cultural Competence: Contributions of Nurse Practitioners to the International Community.” She lives in Hays.

Loren D. Friesen ’81, ACCT, is executive director of the Newton Healthcare Foundation in Newton, Kan. Friesen recently earned the professional designation, Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG). He resides in North Newton, Kan.

Cynthia A. (Whitehair) Groene ’81, NURS, ’88 M NURS, has passed the specialized examination for oncology nursing certification. Groene has worked in oncology and with Cancer Center of Kansas PA, Winfield, Kan., since 1990. She lives in Winfield.

Rhandalee (Donaldson) Hinman ’81, PERS, owns Hinman & Associates, a human resources consulting company. She lives in Wichita.

Karen L. (Woods) Wright ’81, SP/RADIOTV, is assistant vice president, operations team lead for Bank of America, Wichita. She resides in Wichita.

Gregory D. “Greg” Zielke ’81, M MUS, director of the music program at Grace University, Omaha, Neb., is also artistic director and conductor of the Omaha Symphonic Chorus. He lives in Omaha.

Sally A. (Finney) Beckett ’82, PE, is a Health Strategies fitness adviser. She lives in Andover, Kan.

Dean E. Headley ’82, M BUS A, associate professor of marketing and entrepreneurship at Wichita State and a national expert on the airline industry, has been quoted in numerous newspapers regarding the ailing industry. He told the Wichita Business Journal, for instance, that there are likely to be fewer major airlines in the next decade but more low-fare carriers. Headley lives in Wichita.*

Shirley A. Jefferson ’82, SOC, a buyer for Boeing Co., Wichita, is serving a 2002-03 term as public affairs director for the Women in Aviation International, Heartland Aviation Women of Kansas Chapter. Jefferson lives in Wichita.

Laura S. (Scheer) Kennedy ’82, MUS, a professional pianist with an active performing career in the Boston area, is a Killington Music Festival faculty member and participates in the Ottawa, Seattle and Hartford Suzuki festivals. She resides in Milford, N.H.

Sheryl L. (Miller) Wohlford ’82, HCA, president and co-owner of Automation-Plus, Wichita, is the 2003 chairman of the board for the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Wichita.*

Nancy (Denton) George ’83, MKT, ’00 PA, is a physician assistant with the Mid-America Surgical Association in Wichita. She resides in Wichita.*

V. Kevin Johnson ’83, EE, senior engineer with INNOLOG, Dayton, Ohio, has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Major Johnson was the lead system integration engineer for the Sensors, Links and Ground Station Division of the Reconnaissance Systems Program Office, Air Force Systems Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Johnson lives in Beavercreek, Ohio.*

Bryan Masters ’83, JOURN, designer of The Shocker magazine and director of interactive communications at Wichita State, has released his second CD, “Thundar the Boy Giant.” The singer-songwriter resides in Wichita.

Kathleen S. (Flynn) Prilliman ’83, NURS, ’95 M NURS, has joined the Kiowa District Hospital in Kiowa, Kan., as a nurse practitioner. She lives in Medicine Lodge, Kan.

Bernard W. Sanders ’83, M MUS, a church musician, has had two musical compositions recognized in a contest sponsored by the Cecilian Organization (Guild of Catholic Church Choirs) of the Diocese Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Germany. From 25 entries, Sanders’ Christusgebet (Prayer to Christ) and Jesus, an dich glaube ich (Jesus, I believe in you) were awarded respectively the first and second prizes. He lives in Muehlheim, Germany.*

Peggy L. (Young) Santiago ’83, ED PSYCH, teaches elementary school in Arkansas City, Kan., where she resides.

Stephen J. Schneider ’83, BIOL, a family practice physician, is owner of Schneider Medical Clinic LLC in Haysville, Kan., where he resides. The new clinic is state-of-the-art and features digital X-ray equipment. Schneider plans to open other facilities in rural areas around the state.

Laurel A. Alkire ’84, SOC, ’86 M GERON, is executive director of Senior Services Inc. of Wichita. She lives in Wichita.

Jeffrey J. Harding ’84, HUM, ’86 GEN S, is director of placement with the Wichita Technical Institute. He resides in Wichita.

Richard D. “Rich” Kincaid ’84, FIN, is CEO of Equity Office Properties Trust in Chicago, Ill. He resides in Northbrook, Ill.

Steven W. McMullen ’84, MGT, is general manager of Bristol Steel & Conveyor Inc., a $25 to 30 million structural steel fabricator, erector and manufacturer/lessor of heavy industrial equipment, based in Davison, Mich. He resides in Davison.*

Norman D. Williams ’84, AA AJ, ’86 AJ, ’00 M PA, is chief of the Wichita Police Department. He lives in Wichita.*

Mark C. Rowe ’85, SC WK, is president and CEO of Hospice Care of Kansas LLC. The Wichita-based health-care organization was listed No. 1 in the Wichita Business Journal’s 2002 Metro Awards for its growth rate of 651 percent. He lives in Wichita.

Janice E. (McNeal) Strecker ’85, M EAS, is principal of Graber Elementary School in Hutchinson, Kan., where she resides.

Scott E. Dawson ’86, ART G, of Scott Dawson Illustration, produces corporate art for local and national businesses. He also paints montages and portraits. His artistic subjects include Clyde Cessna, a series of old, new and futuristic airplanes and Kemmons Wilson, the founder of Holiday Inn. Dawson, who also has created original works for The Shocker magazine, lives in Wichita.

David H. Gear ’86, HCA, ’88 M HS, is director of education and a marketing representative for Prairie View, a health-care organization headquartered in Newton, Kan. He is also immediate past president of the Wichita chapter of the American Marketing Association. He resides in Wichita.

Ted O. Mason ’86, GEN S, who has been practicing general and cosmetic dentistry for almost 20 years, practices at Mason & Mason, Wichita. He lives in Wichita.*

Edward A. Shirk ’86, MKT, is vice president of marketing and sales for Harper Industries Inc., a company that specializes in agricultural, industrial and turf products. Harper Industries is located in Harper, Kan., where Shirk lives.

Lori R. (Proberts) Boline ’87, CH BUS, a clinical lab technologist and lab director at Emporia State University’s Student Health Center, serves on the board of directors of the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas. She lives in Allen, Kan.

April L. Beaty ’88, NURS, an emergency room RN at the Coffey County Hospital in Burlington, Kan., has become a member of the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association. She will be on probationary status for a year, and her dog, Chloe, is set to begin training this spring. Beaty lives in Shawnee, Kan.*

Jon M. Daniels ’88, M PE, an associate professor of recreation at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan., has carved out a distinguished career as  athletic director, golf, track and football coach during his 20-plus years at Bethany. A member   of the Bethany College Hall of Fame, he is the winningest coach in the college’s history, with his National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics teams consistently in the top 25 in the nation. Named Administrator of the Year and Coach of the Year several times, he was named 2002 Athletic Director of the Year in Region Four of the NAIA. Daniels resides in Salina, Kan.

Todd A. Murphy ’88, BUS A, is national sales manager for fox Kansas and UPN Kansas TV stations in Wichita, where he lives. 

Stuart S. Schroeder ’88, FIN, ’91 M P ACCT, is a controller with Galichia Medical Group in Wichita. He resides in Wichita.

Marti K. Vo ’88, AA SOC S, is a sales associate for V.I.P. Realty Center West. She lives in Wichita.

John S. Beckman ’89, FIN, is a Wells Fargo Home Mortgage financial consultant. He lives in Wichita.*

Kathy I. Carothers ’89, AA NS/MATH, is a faculty member at the University of Phoenix in Kansas City, Mo. She lives in Shawnee Mission, Kan.

Janet F. (Nickel) Harrah ’89, M ECON, director of the economic development and business research center at WSU, has been quoted in area newspapers as forecasting a 4.1 percent growth in construction sectors, despite an overall neutral growth predicted for Kansas business in 2003. She also predicts that health care and security services look promising. Harrah resides in Wichita.

Brett M. Kuhlmeier ’89, MKT, is a loan officer with the First National Bank at West Plains, Mo.

Rhonda K. Lewis ’89, AA SOC S, ’91 PSYCH, WSU assistant professor of psychology, has been honored by the Urban League of Wichita for her contributions to the community. Lewis residesin Wichita.

James T. “Jim” Miller ’89, M PE, who worked for eight years in operations and events for the University of Oklahoma’s athletic department, writes a weekly, self-syndicated column called the Savvy Senior that runs in more than 400 newspapers. He counts as a “part-time hobby job” serving as the stadium announcer for OU’s football and basketball games, and he was the announcer for gymnastics at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. Miller lives in Norman, Okla.

Kenneth R. Spurgeon ’89, AA HUM, ’97 HIST, ’02 M HIST, is director of instructional services for Cowley County Community College’s northern campuses. He resides in Andover, Kan.

Diana G. Bludworth ’90, GEN S, ’94 M LIB S, is executive director of the Wichita Women’s Initiative Network. She resides in Wichita.

Denice B. Bruce ’90, SP/COMM, ’93 M COMM, is a speech communication instructor at Hesston College in Hesston, Kan. She resides in Wichita.

Gary L. Condict ’90, EE, is a system operations supervisor at Aquila Inc. in Pueblo, Colo.

Brett C. Henry ’90, CH BUS, is president of Henry Industries Inc., a Wichita-based courier company. Henry Industries, which posted a 149.67 percent growth rate in 2002, was ranked No. 7 in the Wichita Business Journal’s 2002 Metro Awards. Henry resides in Wichita.

Kenneth J. “Ken” Thiessen ’90, M EADS, is principal at Wichita East High School. He lives  in Wichita.

Kasey J. Baker ’91, SP/BJOURN, communications director at Newman University in Wichita, serves on the board of directors for the Wichita chapter of the American Marketing Association as president-elect and vice president for programming. She lives in Andover, Kan.*

David D. Cox ’91, ACCT, is COO for The Bradbury Co. Inc., an international group of companies that manufacture custom machine tool equipment, Moundridge, Kan. Cox lives in Hutchinson, Kan.*

Randy R. Harvell ’91, MGT, has been promoted from manager of UPS/LTL intermodal marketing to director of international marketing for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Fort Worth, Texas. He lives in Fort Worth.

James J. Duncan ’92, ACCT, ’93 M P ACCT, is a controller with Dean & Deluca in Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Deanna L. (Dunivent) Harms ’92, COMM, has been promoted to senior vice president of the Greteman Group, a Wichita-based advertising  and design agency. She resides in Wichita.

Bradley J. “Brad” Ruder ’92, ART G, a graphic designer for Koch Industries, serves as webmaster for the Wichita Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He lives in Wichita.

Mary L. Werner ’92, ART S, ’94 M ART S, a studio painting and drawing lecturer at the School of Art and Design at Wichita State, was among the contributing artists who painted 10 violins as part of a fund-raising project for the Wichita Symphony. Werner resides in Wichita.

Ayesha Mojoli Boggino ’93, ENG LIT, who teaches children English at her own small language institute, is negotiating with the owners of a local cable network about producing an instructional TV show. She is also a professional actress at the Arlequin Teatro. She lives in Asunción, Paraguay.

John R. Buchwald ’93, CS, is information technologies and services team leader for Bergstrom Inc. in Rockford, Ill. He lives in Esmond, Ill.

Deborah L. (Barnum) Donovan ’93, AA LEGAL, is vice president, retail banking for Intrust Bank, Wichita. She resides in Wichita.

Raymond M. “Mike” Farag ’93, SP EAD, is director of sales with High Touch Inc., a Wichita-area technology company. He lives in Wichita.

Phillip K. Holland ’93, AEROE, is president of Millenium Concepts Inc., an aircraft completions engineering and certification consulting company based in Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Kimberly D. (Guthrie) Luckert ’93, MKT, is branch manager and personal financial consultant at Intrust Bank, Wichita. She lives in Wichita.

Robert N. Magnuson ’93, BIOL, a physician, has joined the staff at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse, Kan.
