Carolyn McGinn '83 is in her first four-year term in the Kansas Senate. The former Sedgwick County commissioner represents a diverse urban and rural constituency, the people of the state's 31st Senate District, which covers Harvey County and part of Sedgwick County.
Sen. McGinn — a Republican and Sedgwick resident who, along with her husband, Mark ’75, farms 1,000 acres near the Little Arkansas River northwest of Valley Center — chairs the Senate Natural Resources Committee, serves on the Senate Ways and Means Committee and Education Committee, and is a member of the Joint Committee on Kansas Security.
This July, her list of interests and responsibilities grew with her appointment to the executive committee of the Energy Council.
The council is a legislative organization of energy-producing states, namely Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Kansas is the newest member state. The council also has international affiliates in Canada and Venezuela. Alberta will host the council’s final conference in 2007, “Global Energy and Environmental Issues,” slated for Dec. 13-16.
“As Kansas continues to develop its leading role in energy production and alternative energy sources,” McGinn says, “we can benefit from the experience of our council associates and international affiliates.”
