alumni speaker series breakfast

The 10th season of the WSU Distinguished Alumni Speaker Breakfast Series tipped off in a big way with some 350 Shockers gathering early the morning of Sept. 15 to hear Shocker men’s basketball coach Mark Turgeon, who was the first of six speakers to be featured in the 2006-07 series.

Kerry Crisp ’74/83, Steve Boleski ’85, Debbie Haynes ’76, Steve Feilmeier ’85, Velma Wallace and Joan Beren were among those in attendance.

The event, which was sponsored by Morgan Stanley, was held in the Preferred Health Systems Multipurpose Center at Charles Koch Arena.

From the basketball court to federal court, the next distinguished speaker in the series was U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas Eric Melgren ’79, who spoke Oct. 16 at the Marcus Welcome Center.

Long-time friend and past WSU Alumni Association president Sheryl Wohlford ’82 introduced Melgren, who is also a former president of the alumni association.

Adam Pankratz ’02, Shala Perez-Trumbo ’99/02/04 and The Honorable John “Joe” Kisner ’81 were among attendees of the event, which was sponsored by Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture.

Up next in the speaker series is Jill Cobb ’77, a veteran forensic pathologist who has worked in many locales around the world, including Bosnia and New Zealand.
