Shockers packed into Charles Koch Arena for Convocation 2009 on Sept. 1. WSU President Don Beggs, Ron Matson, associate professor of sociology, and Collin Stieben ’02, WSU Alumni Association president, were headline speakers.
Convocation 2009: Electric
Shockers — students, faculty, staff, alike —packed into Charles Koch Arena for Convocation 2009. Jody Adams, head women’s basketball coach, and Gregg Marshall, head men’s basketball coach, got the crowd going with a duo of pep talks.
Then members of the Wichita State men’s and women’s National Championship bowling teams were introduced. Festivities continued with the A Cappella Choir singing the Alma Mater. A welcome by WSU President Don Beggs and comments by Ron Matson, associate professor of sociology, and Collin Stieben ’00, president of the alumni association, also energized the crowd.
The university’s pep band played, the dance team danced, the cheer squad cheered, door prizes were awarded, T-shirts were handed out — in short, Convo ’09 was electric with Shocker Spirit.
