Miss Wu

BY DAVID DINELL '05

Lily WuTwo years after graduation, WSU Gore Scholar Lily Wu ’07 continues to snag accomplishments at a rapid-fire pace. The high energy 24-year-old, who graduated with a double degree in international business and integrated marketing communications, has completed studies as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar at the University of Hong Kong, where she earned a master’s degree in journalism.

Of pure Chinese descent but raised in Guatemala and Kansas, Wu had never lived in Asia. Along with her studies, which included learning the Cantonese language, she traveled extensively, speaking to more than 50 Rotary Clubs throughout Asia.

After returning to Wichita in December 2008, she was one of 81 people selected from a field of 1,200 to participate in the Koch Associate Program, which involves completing Market Based Management training in Washington, D.C., and then working in Wichita for a year on program coordination for Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas. “I love it,” she says of the new chapter in her life. “As a YEK alum, this is near and dear to my heart.”

After her post with YEK, Wu envisions a career that will combine her business acumen with her public speaking skills and desire to mentor young students. “I want to hone in on what I believe my strengths are,” she says. “I love people and love the stage.”
