Spring brings Shocker events in every 'color.'

Spring is a busy time of year — especially on a college campus. Students are active with everything from studying for final exams to planning for graduation ceremonies. Yet university activities aren't limited to students. Opportunities for alumni participation in the life of the university abound.

Although the basketball, golf and tennis seasons have wound down. Shocker baseball and softball are in the middle of exciting seasons, and WSU track and field is just now hitting its stride.

And that's just Shocker sports!

For the non-sports-minded, there are summer theater and fine-arts schedules to check out, visits to the Ulrich Museum or the Lake Afton Public Observatory to plan.

Plus, every college — fine arts, engineering, business, liberal arts and sciences, health professions and education — provides its own unique activities and involvement opportunities for alumni. The premier spring event for all the colleges, of course, is commencement, which this year is set for Friday, May 14. Even if you don't know a graduating Shocker, the event is an uplifting one to attend.

Also slated for May 14 is the inauguration of our 12th president, Dr. Donald Beggs. This historic occasion will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. N. A reception will begin immediately following the inaugural ceremony in the ballroom on the third floor of the Rhatigan Student Cetner on the main campus.

The alumni association is busy throwing baseball tent parties and sponsoring, among many other events and programs, the Class of 1949's return to campus for their big 50-year reunion bash May 14-16, and the May 14th annual meeting of WSU nursing graduates, who come together to celebrate their accomplishments and to recognize their Distinguished Alumnus Award honoree for 1998-99.

As if that weren't enough, the calendar of spring events is steadily building taward the association's single biggest event of the year: the KIA Carnival Shocker Auction. Already scores of alumni have volunteered their energies and talents in helping organize the June 26 auction. But more are needed!

So, whether you're interested in the auction or something entirely different, call the association to see what opportunities for involvement we can offer you!
