Toby Elster ’48, ADM, ’50 GEO, president of Geological Services Inc., also serves as president of The Constitutional Foundation, a nonprofit organization that seeks to “restore the spirit and vigor of Americanism in America.” Elster lives in Wichita.*

Robert J. Atkinson ’49, MUS ED I, retired mechanical engineer who has worked for Boeing, Thiokol Chemical, Lockheed and Rohr, is also an expert in brass music instrument design and acoustics, a former horn instructor at the University of Wichita (1941-44) and has been included in Who’s Who in California. He lives in Burbank, Calif.

Geraldine “Jerry” M. (Beardsley) Osment ’50, S ART/P, artist and member of Wichita Women Artists, recently showed her work at the Coutts Museum of Art in El Dorado, Kan. She lives in Wichita.*

Donald “Don” L. Corbett ’53, MUS I, ’59 M MUS I, retired music educator and master of the trumpet, trombone and tuba, has been inducted into the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s Hall of Fame for his contributions to Kansas schools. He resides in Wichita.

Garth M. Kennedy ’53, FLD MJR, an independently licensed insurance agent, has received the Tablet of Honor from Wichita’s Downtown Kiwanis Club for making a difference in the community. He resides in Wichita.*

Robert W. Thayer ’55, M MUS I, formerly dean of the College of Music Arts at Bowling Green State University, serves as dean of the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., where he lives. 

Howard M. Dull ’56, ACCT, owns a real estate brokerage firm and the Stephan Cori Boutique, a women’s dress shop, in Fresno, Calif., where he also lives.

Jerome “Jerry” M. Hurley ’57, SP, has retired from teaching for the Bergen County School District in New Jersey. He lives in Hackensack, N.J.

Mary L. (Bales) Nyberg ’57, MUS ED I, a violinist with the Topeka, Kan., and Salina, Kan., symphonies, is a member of the Pernambuco String Quartet. She lives in Manhattan, Kan.*

Dean E. Graber ’59, MGT, ’63 M BUS ADM, has received a Rotary International Grant for University Teachers to teach for three months at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. Graber lives in Bixby, Okla.

Sharon D. (McNeil) Thompson ’59, ENG L/LIT, ’66 M ENG, a retired English high school teacher who also taught units on film, is one of only two individuals to guess all but one category correctly in The Wichita Eagle’s Oscar prediction contest. She lives in Wichita.

Francis C. Payne ’60, BUS ADM, is the owner of Tumbleweed Antiques in Peabody, Kan., where he also resides.

Richard “Dick” L. Sanders ’60, PE, of Dick Sanders Insurance Agency, Wichita, has been inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame.  A WU quarterback and defensive back in football, a member of Coach Ralph Miller’s first basketball team in 1951-52 and a slick-fielding Shocker shortstop, Sanders signed a contract with the New York Yankees following his junior season and played in the Yankees and Dodgers organizations for eight seasons. A member of the Shocker Hall of Fame, National Baseball Congress Hall of Fame and the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame, he lives in Wichita.*

Judith “Judy” M. Bell ’61, PSYCH, ’61 SOC, of Bell Retail Group, Colorado Springs, has been inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame. A WSU Achievement Award winner and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Kansas Golf Hall of Fame, Colorado Golf Hall of Fame and Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, she had a brilliant amateur golf career and became the first woman president of the USGA in 1996. She lives in Colorado Springs.

Raymond “Ray” D. Huber ’63, SP, has retired as president of Huber Nursing Homes in Wichita, where he resides.

Beverly “Bev” A. (Thomi) Curzydlo ’64, EL ED, ’75 M EL ED, has retired as a reading specialist at Carter Elementary School. She resides in Wichita.

Anthony “Tony” L. Blake ’65, ART GD, owner of Tony Blake Design, was commissioned to create the 2006 Wichita River Festival poster and handle merchandise and marketing. He lives in Wichita.

John P. Cherney ’65, HIST, has retired as a simulation pilot instructor from American Airlines in Fort Worth, Texas. He lives in Hurst, Texas.

Neal A. Ferguson ’65, HIST, ’67 M HIST, is a history professor at the University of Nevada in Reno, where he also lives.

Charles K. Frodsham ’65, SP, a former broadcaster, is engaged in a research project involving the early years of radio broadcasting in Wichita. He lives in Beloit, Kan.

W. Dale Goodrich ’65, SEC ED, ’67 M MATH, has retired as associate vice president of academic affairs from Friends University in Wichita, where he resides.

Timothy “Tim” E. Mckee ’65, BIO SCI, ’65 PHIL, a partner at Triplett Woolf & Garretson in Wichita, has been appointed to the Kansas Electric Transmission Authority by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. He lives in Wichita.

C. Lindel Silvertooth ’65, M EAS, is principal at Derby Hills Elementary School in Derby, Kan., where he also lives.

Kenneth E. Banwart ’66, ACCT, is founder and managing director of Aspen Partners LTD, which packages alternate investment vehicles. He resides Atlanta, Ga.

Marsha L. (Wilson) Allen ’67, EL ED, an associate broker with Re/Max Realty Professionals East in Wichita, has been named the top individual real estate agent for Re/Max in Kansas in 2005.

John M. Hagler ’67, MUS ED I, has retired after 25 years in private practice as a mental health counselor. He lives in Great Barrington, Mass.*

Jim B. Hattan ’67, ADM, president of Don Hattan Chevrolet in Wichita, serves as 2005-06 greater Wichita YMCA vice president of properties.*

Frank D. Thomas ’67, MUS ED I,  ’71 M MUS I, director of choral activity at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo., is in his 25th year as artistic director of the St. Joseph Community Chorus. He resides in St. Joseph.

David A. Melby ’67, S ART/P, artist and owner of David Melby Fine Arts Studio, showed his recent paintings at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg, Kan. He lives in Leavenworth, Kan.

Jackie N. Williams ’67, ADM, senior fellow of WSU’s criminal justice program and a former U.S. attorney, has been recognized by Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius for his efforts in prosecuting hate crimes. He lives in Wichita. *

B. Joan (Harris) Wilson ’67, EL ED, ’76 M EL ED, a retired teacher who lives in Wichita, was spotlighted as a Shocker basketball “Fan of the Day” in The Wichita Eagle this March.

Stanley R. Bennett ’68, ACCT, is retired vice president of finance and CFO of Capital Electric. He lives in Weatherby Lake, Mo.

Carolyn L. Bridges ’68, EL ED, ’74 M EAS, an assistant professor and education specialist at Baker University, is serving a 16-month stint as an Academy for Educational Development school management advisor in Doha, Qatar, where she is helping to open an independent high school for girls. The academy is based in Washington, D.C.*

Lois A. (Kearns) Kendall ’68, SOC, is professor of psychology and family counseling at Barclay College in Haviland, Kan., where she also lives.

Victoria “Vicki” E. (Eckhardt) Mercer ’68, ADM, ’03 M ACCT, is vice president of finance at Hospice Care of Kansas. She lives in Wichita.

Paul D. Stephenson ’68, ADM, owner of PDS Co., Wichita, serves as chairman of the Kansas State University Foundation Executive Committee, the policy-making arm of the university’s board of trustees. He lives in Wichita.*

Freddie Elaine Thompson-Esters ’68, PE, is president of the California Association for health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She lives in Compton, Calif.

Michael L. Bettega ’69, ECON, has retired as director of engineering support for Amdahl Corp. He lives in Milpitas, Calif.

Roger A. Buller ’69, ADM, has been named to the board of directors of A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc., the brokerage subsidiary of St. Louis-based financial services firm A.G. Edwards Inc. He lives in Wichita.

Scherel H. Carver ’69, M SPAN, a retired assistant city librarian, lives in Tyler, Texas.

E. George Fahnestock ’69, BUS ADM, owner and CEO of Fahnestock Electric in Wichita, serves on the board of trustees of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. He resides in Wichita.*

J. Denny Senseney ’69, MUS ED I, ’74 M MUS I, president of Sensensy Music in Wichita and chair of the South Central Kansas Chapter for Kansas Families United for Public Education, was presented a Support Music Advocacy Award at the 10th Annual Fund for the Advancement of Music Education dinner in Washington, D.C. He lives in Wichita.*

Bonnie R. Thompson ’69, EL ED, ’75 M EL ED, is a retired elementary school teacher residing in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.

Irene (Parsons) Hart ’70, ANTHRO, ’75 M URB A, Sedgwick County director of community development, has earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer from the International Economic Development Council. She lives in Wichita.*

Gale L. Premer ’70, ACCT, president of LL&G Inc., Hutchinson, Kan., has opened a Montana Mike’s restaurant in Newton, Kan. He lives in Hutchinson.

Tommie “Tom” R. Frye ’71, SEC ED, ’84 M COMM, played Bert Barry in the McCain Performance Series production of 42nd Street this February in Manhattan, Kan. He lives in New York, N.Y.

Jerry A. Ligon ’71, SEC ED, ’75 M SOC, is associate dean of education at National–Louis University’s National College of Education in Wheeling, Ill. He resides in Elgin, Ill.*

Rolando Mayans ’71, SPAN, ’71 FREN, ’75 M ACCT, is vice president and commercial banking manager of Bank of the West in Wichita, where he resides.

James R. Oxler ’71, ADM, has retired as director of billing and collections from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He lives in Saint Peters, Mo.

Barry L. Downing ’72, EL E, the founder of Corporate Lodging Consultants Inc. and an active philanthropist who launched in April an entertainment series to benefit Wichita-area nonprofit groups, has been inducted into Junior Achievement’s Wichita Business Hall of Fame. Downing resides in Wichita.

Carla A. (Bouska) Lee ’72, M EAS, ’75 SP ED ADM, ’84 M NURS, adjunct professor of nursing at Newman University in Wichita and president of the WSU Nursing Alumni Society, has received the State Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She lives in Wichita.*

Cynthia “Cindy” C. Carnahan ’73, EL ED, president of the Carnahan Group, a subsidiary of J.P. Weigand & Sons, has received Master’s Circle Award honors as the company’s Number One Residential Associate. She lives in Wichita.*

David W. Cole ’73, ACCT, has retired from the U.S. Air Force Civil Service where he was an auditor. He lives in Colorado Springs, Colo.

William M. Connor ’73, EL ED, ’73 SEC ED, a network engineer in the U.S. Army, lives in Lakewood, Wash.

Kevin F. Daves fs ’73, president of Core Development Inc. and KDA Architects, designed the $600 million Concession golf course community in Sarasota, Fla. Planned by golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin, the course is now open for business. Daves resides in Wichita.

W. Ted Krone ’73, M S ART/SC, Friends University art professor, exhibited works in welded steel and mixed media at the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in NYC. Krone lives in Wichita.

Rodney “Rod” A. Setchell ’73, AJ, is sales manager at Martin Marietta Materials in Englewood, Colo. The company is the U.S.’s second largest producer of crushed stone, sand and gravel. He lives in Wichita.*

Carroll L. (Bunjovac) Allred ’74, SEC ED, is owner and vice president of operations at Fresh Ideas Inc., which helps companies develop approaches to working with government agencies. Allred lives in Midlothian, Va.*

John W. Jacobs ’74, HIST/PHIL, is CEO of Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Oklahoma. He works and lives in Tulsa, Okla.*

Michael “Mike” R. Meacham ’74, POL SCI, ’98 M PUB H, former WSU Alumni Association executive director now an associate professor at Penn State, University Park, Pa., serves as executive director of Penn State’s Master of Health Administration program. He lives in State College, Pa.*

J. Steven Molstad ’74, BUS ADM, represents some 28,000 Masons as 2006-07 Grand Master of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Kansas. Molstad is president of Colby Canvas Co. in Colby, Kan., where he lives.*

William “Bill” B. Moore ’74, ACCT, president and COO of Westar Energy Inc., received the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Award for his philanthropy, community service and leadership at the National Conference for Community and Justice 56th Annual Humanitarian Awards ceremony in March. Moore resides in Wichita.*

Mary J. (Garcia) Navarro ’74, SPAN, head counselor at Wichita’s North High School, received the A. Price Woodard Jr. Award for her commitment to community at the National Conference for Community and Justice 56th Annual Humanitarian Awards ceremony in March. She lives in Wichita.

J. Craig Shultz ’74, SP, attorney at the Wichita-based law firm of Shultz Lonker & Raymond, is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Only trial lawyers whose careers are marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality are extended fellowships. Shultz lives in Wichita.*

Michael “Mike” L. Hauschild ’75, AJ, has retired as Derby, Kan., chief of police after 27 years of police department service. He lives in Derby.

Arneatha K. Martin ’75, NURS, ’80 M NURS, founder and former CEO of the Center for Health and Wellness in Wichita, has received a 2006 distinguished service award from the Kansas African-American Affairs Commission and Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Martin lives in Wichita.*

Keith R. Nelson ’76, MED TECH, ’92 M BUS ADM, is administrative director at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Ill. He resides in Orland Park, Ill.*

Kay D. Wiggins ’76, SEC ED, Kay Wiggins Jewelry owner, has signed a national contract as exclusive bracelet manufacturer for Massachusetts-based Freedom Drug, the U.S.’s largest provider of pharmacy services for infertility. She lives in Wichita.

Sidney “Sid” E. Ford ’77, ACCT, is chairman of the accounting department at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Ariz. The former Shocker basketball player also runs his own CPA firm. He resides in Tempe, Ariz.*

Charles D. Jacobs ’77, BUS ADM, has retired from the Kansas Air National Guard. The former comptroller-assistant U.S. property and fiscal officer for the 184th Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base lives in Derby, Kan.*

Surjya Kumar “Eskay” Misra ’77, M BUS ADM, is professor and dean for management studies at IMIT, Cuttack, a constituent college of Biju Pattnaik University of Technology, Orissa, India. Misra lives in Cuttack, India.

Nanette “Nan” M. Putnam ’77, SOC WK, is assistant regional director for performance improvement at the Wichita office of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. She lives in Wichita.

Christy (Tasset) Hillard ’78, DH, is a registered dental hygienist and supervisor at the Sedgwick County Children’s Dental Center in Wichita, where she resides.

Ellen C. (Schimmel) Burr ’79, MUS P, an award-winning flute soloist, private flute teacher and composer, lectured and performed at WSU’s 16th Annual Contemporary Music Festival in March. She lives in Venice, Calif.

Carol A. (Kroening) Keller ’79, PT, a former Shocker cheerleader now a special education physical therapist with Derby, Kan., public schools, was spotlighted as a Shocker basketball “Fan of the Day” in The Wichita Eagle this March. She lives in Derby.*

Kelly W. McFall ’81, EL E, is a technical analyst for Rose International, a leader in providing information technology and business services to corporations and government agencies nationwide. McFall lives in St. Louis, Mo.

James M. O’Loughlin ’81, AERON E, directs the Boeing-Chinook Helicopter program in Gossport, England. He lives in Locks Heath, England.

Gerald “Gerry” A. Rues ’81, M EL E, is co-founder and co-owner of Electronic Sensors Inc., a 21-year-old company that has made business news for developing Level Devils, electronic sensors that measure the contents of liquid storage tanks. He lives and works in Wichita.

Joseph “Joe” H. Williams fs ’81, the former Shocker football player who kicked an NCAA record-tying 67-yard field goal against Southern Illinois in 1978, owns Solar Control of Mississippi, a window-tinting business. He lives in Ocean Springs, Miss.

Kenneth R. Carlson ’82, AJ, is an assistant field office director for homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Kansas City, Mo. He lives in Parkville, Mo.

Nancy J. (Grensing) Egan ’82, NURS, works in the newborn intensive care unit at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where she lives.

Nicholas R. Frisch ’82, AV MGT, manages the flight school Gelvin Flying in Seattle, Wash. He lives in Renton, Wash.

Kathryn “Kathy” L. (Hunter) Hull ’82, AA HUM, ’83 S ART/P, ’84 GEN ST, visual resources curator at WSU’s art and design school, designed a mural template for north Wichita teens to paint. The finished mural is planned to be installed at 25th Street N. and Arkansas. Hull resides in Wichita.

Jay B. Jackson ’82, MGT, a former WSU basketball player, is a physical education teacher at Jefferson West Elementary School in Meriden, Kan. He lives in Topeka, Kan.

David G. Sage ’82, AJ, a U.S. Army colonel and former deputy chief of staff of III Corps at Ford Hood, Texas, is garrison commander at Fort Polk, the state of Louisiana’s largest military site.

Julianne (Henderson) Schroeder ’82, AA LEG A, is a paralegal for Connor & Winters in Tulsa, Okla. She lives in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Mary B. (Gowin) Thrower ’82, AA AJ, is Magistrate Judge for the 28th Judicial District in Minneapolis, Kan., where she lives.

Kelly R. (Post) Wells ’82, PERS ADM, works for Cadbury Schweppes, a major international beverage and confectionary company based in Plano, Texas. She lives in The Colony, Texas.*

Kathryn A. (O’Loughlin) Wilhelm ’82, MCH E, is vice president of mechanical engineering for Bio-Engineering Group Corp. in Covington, La., where she lives.*

Michael “Mike” E. Jones ’83, AJ, the former WSU basketball player who made a game-winning shot in the 1981 NCAA Tournament against KU, is production manager for Life Span, a packaging and assembly company that employs workers with disabilities. Jones lives in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Chester A. Leach ’83, AJ, a retired senior special agent-investigator with the Union Pacific Railroad, lives in Chapman, Kan.

Maurine M. (Means) McCleskey ’83, FIN, is administrative director at New Level Training Complex, a nonprofit organization that trains  student-athletes and young adults in nutrition, athletics and family values. New Level is based in Covington, Ga., where McCleskey lives.*

Dianne L. (Bodhaine) Shantz ’83, NURS, serves on the nursing faculty at Metro State College of Denver. She lives in Northglenn, Colo.

Olaf Snyder ’83, NURS, is a staff nurse in the orthopedics department at Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. He lives in Brevard, N.C.

Karen M. (Hedges) Wernsing ’83, GEN BUS, is administrative coordinator of residence life and housing at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. She lives in Clemmons, N.C.

Philip “Phil” C. Davis ’84, ACCT, Viking Office Products director of operations, also owns Handyman Matters, a franchise operation that offers a variety of home repair, remodeling and restoration services. Davis lives in Wichita.

Felicia Y. Crowley-Rolfe ’87, AA HUM, ’88 JOURN, co-hosts Eyewitness News This Morning on KWCH, Channel 12. She lives in Wichita.

Xavier “X Man” M. McDaniel ’87, AA SOC ST, ’96 GEN ST, a former Shocker basketball standout and retired NBA All-Star who averaged 17.1 points and 8 rebounds as an NBA rookie and who became one of the most popular players in Seattle Sonics history, has been inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. McDaniel lives in Blythewood, S.C.

Michihito Miyamoto ’87, ART GD, is regional manager for BBC World Limited in Tokyo, Japan. He lives in Kanagawa-ken, Japan.

Rudy P. Rodriguez ’87, AJ, ’96 M AJ, is a corrections counselor at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility in Hutchinson, Kan., where he lives.*
