Mary A. (Threlfall) Smith ’35, SOC, a piano teacher, has been recognized by the Music Teachers National Association as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music. She lives in Phillipsburg, Kan.*

Robert W. Scull ’55, GEO, is a broker with Wichita Insurance in Wichita, where he also lives.

Byron G. Hays ’58, CHEM, senior research associate with Engelhard Corp., Beachwood, Ohio, is a member of the corporate team that won the 2004 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for designing safer chemicals. He lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

Arvilla J. (Huber) Hanson ’59, EL ED, has retired from teaching elementary school in the Littleton, Colo., school district. She lives in Littleton.

Sally A. Hapner ’59, ART ED, has retired as an artist with Stained Glass Originals Santa’s Workshop in North Pole, Colo. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Gerald D. Loper ’59, PHYS, WSU’s associate vice president for research and a founding director of the Kansas Bioscience Organization, is a proponent of strengthening bioscience business activity in southcentral Kansas. Loper, who lives in Wichita, points to ongoing research efforts at WSU, including a project that applies computational fluid dynamics used in aerospace engineering research to blood flow in the human body.

M. Elizabeth (Peters) Kinch ’63, MUS ED, ’80 M EL ED, an instructor at WSU and Cowley County Community College, serves as chair of the board of directors for the Delta Dental Plan of Kansas. She lives in Derby, Kan.*

Glenn D. Tracy ’63, GEO, is a fire protection specialist with Securitas Security Services USA in Detroit, Mich. He lives in Warren, Mich.

Charles J. “Chuck” Sirianni ’66, EL ED, a member of WSU’s 1963 MVC Championship football team, now a self-employed financial planner with Integrity Financial Services Inc., has been inducted into the Niagara Falls School System Sports Hall of Fame. He lives in Niagara Falls, N.Y.*

Marilyn L. (McCully) George ’67, SEC ED, has retired as a business education teacher after 33 years in Kansas junior high and high school classrooms. A two-time recipient of the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers award, George resides in Gardner, Kan.*

Mary L. (Starkweather) Slaughter ’67, EL ED, ’67 CDS, is a retired speech and language pathologist who resides in Clay Center, Kan.

Jackie N. Williams ’67, BUS A, WSU School of Community Affairs distinguished senior fellow, was appointed by Kansas Gov. Sebelius as chair of the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training, a 12-member body that oversees law enforcement training and officer standards in the state of Kansas. He lives in Wichita.*

Robert D. Dool ’68, BUS A, chairman of the board of Mid-Continent Safety, was awarded the Golden Eagle by McConnell Air Force Base, the highest honor an honorary commander can receive. Dool is a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Traditional Choir and resides in Wichita.*

Gary R. George ’68, SEC ED, ’70 M HIST, assistant superintendent for the Olathe, Kan., school district, served as a senior examiner on the 2004 Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award. The award recognizes U.S. organizations for performance excellence. George lives in Gardner, Kan.*

Carole A. (Rowsey) Lindsay ’68, SEC ED, ’72 M SEC ED, ’85 M AJ, teaches government at Butler County Community College. She lives in Wichita.

Mary A. (Dahlberg) Wolfersberger ’68, EL ED, is an associate professor in the education department at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., where she also resides.

Carter J. Zerbe ’68, ACCT, has retired after 46 years in the newspaper business as publisher of the Augusta Daily Gazette, Augusta, Kan., where he also lives.*

David P. MacAdam ’69, MUS ED, ’77 M MUS ED, has retired after 27 years of teaching music in the Augusta, Kan., school system. He lives in Augusta.

Ardena L. (Williams) Matlack ’69, MUS ED, is bell choir director at United Methodist Church in Clearwater, Kan., where she also resides.*

Paul D. Allen ’71, BUS A, CEO of Allen Gibbs & Houlik LC of Wichita, serves as chair of the Kansas Board of Accountancy. He lives in Wichita.*

Linda S. (Good) Hamilton ’70, MUS ED, a nationally certified teacher of music with Hamilton Music Studio, Wichita, is one of four 2004 Artscape honorees recognized by the WSU College of Fine Arts. She lives in Wichita.*

E. Keith Lowry ’70, M ART P, has retired from his professorship in the art department of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He lives in Kearney, Neb.

M. "Marni" (Tasheff) Vliet ’70, SEC ED, ’77 M SEC ED, president and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation, Wichita, has been honored by the Wichita Business Journal as one of 20 Women in Business 2004, for her accomplishments as a local business leader and for her contributions to the community. Vliet lives in Wichita.*

Craig A. Challender ’71, M ENG, an English professor at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., received the Student-Faculty Recognition Award, which recognizes professional excellence and devoted service to students, at the university’s commencement on May 8, 2004. He lives in Farmville.

Karen K. (Fullman) Douglas ’71, MED T, is assistant chief medical technologist at Children’s Mercy South in Overland Park, Kan. She lives in Kansas City, Mo.

David N. Eastman ’71, MATH, ’75 M ECON, an account executive with IMA Financial in Wichita, has earned the Registered Health Underwriter designation. He lives in Wichita.*

Mary A. Lacy ’71, PE, helped start and serves as director of Crossroads Learning Center, Gas, Kan., an alternative school founded in 1998 that helps returning high school students and at-risk youth graduate from high school. Lacy lives in Iola, Kan.

Shen-Sheng Lan ’71, M EL E, has retired as senior engineer for the city of San Antonio, Texas.

John H. Wiley ’71, PE, is district athletic director for Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kan. He lives in Silver Lake, Kan.

Rodney B. Dutton ’72, ART G, is creative director for Pitsco Manufacturing in Pittsburg, Kan., where he also resides.

David F. Ross ’72, AERON E, is an engineering manager with Honeywell in Phoenix, Ariz. He lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Linda D. (Jones) Kirby ’74, LING, ’78 URB A, a Wichita attorney who specializes in estate planning, has published a book, The Executor’s Guide.

Cathy A. (Mustoe) Mitchell ’74, NURS, is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner for Neighborhood Health Care of Escondido, Calif. She lives in Valley Center, Calif.

Jeryl L. Mohn ’74, MCH E, is a senior vice president at Panhandle Energy in Houston, Texas. He lives in Sugar Land, Texas.

Kenneth J. Stuke ’74, M SPG, has retired from his position as counselor at Seaman High School in Topeka, Kan., after a 34-year career in education. He lives in Topeka.

Judith C. “Judy” Wilson ’74, MUS ED, ’74 MUS ED INST, a pianist and vice president of Houston Band Instrument Co. in Houston, Texas, recently traveled to Hungary and Romania with her husband, the late David ’73, a professional tuba player who taught classes and performed at an international tuba and euphonium conference held in Budapest. She resides in Houston.*

James P. Pfrehm ’75, M ART C, an artist-in-residence for schools in Oklahoma, also owns the Pottery Studio in Wewoka, Okla., where he makes pottery in stoneware and porcelain. He lives in Wewoka.

Debra K. Popp-Dipietro ’75, CDS, is a speech language pathologist for Springfield Township Public Schools in Orland, Penn. She lives in Lansdale, Penn.

Chester R. “Chet” Roberts ’75, M PE, is an investment executive working for Citizens Financial Services at Citizens State Bank in Moundridge, Kan. He lives in Goessel, Kan.

John M. Buehler ’77, M MUS ED, music department chair and director of fine and performing arts at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., served as guest conductor for the Ninth Annual Kansas Christian Activities Association Choral Festival hosted by Central Christian College in McPherson, Kan. Buehler lives in Baldwin City.

Carolyn K. Oborny ’81, M PE, an adaptive physical education teacher for USD 259, was named Central Region Teacher of the Year by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. One of six regional winners nationwide, Oborny lives in Wichita.

Rebecca M. (Bloomgren) Ott ’81, FIN, ’98 EL ED, and her family were named a Kansas American Royal Farm Family of the Year for 2004, an award sponsored by the Kansas City Kansas Community College and the Kansas Farm Management Association. She and her husband Kent farm 4,000 acres south of Wichita, growing corn, soybeans, wheat and grain sorghum. Ott, who oversees the farm’s business operations, also teaches accounting at Cowley County Community College, Arkansas City, Kan. She lives in Mulvane, Kan.

Jeffrey D. Sherbondy ’81, ACCT, is comptroller of the C Board Corp. in Kansas City, Mo. He lives in Overland Park, Kan.

Winthrop B. “Win” Smith ’81, S ART/SC, is co-owner and program director of Addiction Specialists in Wichita. He lives in Andover, Kan.

Douglas R. Haydon ’83, MGT, a systems architect for AOL in Dulles, Va., has written a murder mystery novel set in the old whaling port of New Bedford, Mass. The book, Ambergris, is available on Amazon.com. Haydon lives in Lovettsville, Va.

Dale L. Harper ’87, M EAS, is an industrial arts teacher and head boys’ basketball coach at Norwich High School in Norwich, Kan. He lives in Milton, Kan.
