When the final buzzer sounded on Wichita State’s 2004-05 season, Mark Turgeon's fifth as head coach, the tally stood at 22 victories and 10 defeats.

Five freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors and seniors Jamar Howard (No. 4), Randy Burns (No. 5) and Rob Kampman (No. 33) averaged 71.9 points per game, shot a .468 field goal percentage and won WSU’s first postseason games in 16 years.

Fans filled Charles Koch Arena 11 times and bought $250,000 worth of assorted Shocker merchandise from the University Bookstore.

The alumni  association sponsored 14 TV watch parties in Wichita, a half-dozen more in Tempe, Chicago and Topeka and hosted a two-bus trip to St. Louis for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

BEYOND NUMBERS:

“It was a lot of fun out there,” Burns told The Sunflower after a particularly sweet Shocker win in front of an electric Koch Arena crowd. “We want to give them a show. We want to make them proud.”
