Edward W. “Pete” Armstrong ’42, CHEM, chairman of McCormick-Armstrong Co. Inc., has received the Rotary Club of Wichita’s Service Above Self award as well as Harry Stanley recognition. He resides in Wichita.*

Stan E. Wisdom ’51, PLO S, a Wichita attorney, has been re-elected to the Wichita Symphony Society Board of Directors for a three-year term. He resides in Wichita.*

Bonnie J. (Blackwell) Matles ’60, ED, is office manager for U.S. Representative Amory “Amo” Houghton in Washington, D.C. She lives in Alexandria, Va.*

Robert L. Edwards ’61, MUS ED, 63 M MUS C, a professor of music at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan., recently performed an organ recital to celebrate the installation of the Reuter pipe organ at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield, Kan. Edwards, who also serves as organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, lives in Manhattan.

Edgar Wilson fs ’62, owns the BEST Agency, a Wichita insurance brokerage. He lives in Wichita.

John R. Brooks ’63, ACCT, a CPA at the CPA Center in Wichita, has been named treasurer for the board of directors for the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas. He lives in Wichita.

Carl J. Gerbrandt ’63, M MUS ED, professor of voice and director of opera theater at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo., served as a visiting fellow of Wolfson College at Cambridge University in England for the spring 2004 term. In 2002, Gerbrandt received the University of Northern Colorado Academic Excellence Award for Teaching Excellence in Graduate Education. The author of Sacred Music Drama, the scholar’s most recent research has been on American composer, Louis Cheslock. Gerbrandt resides in Greeley.

Lynn E. (Kincheloe) Stephan ’64, SEC ED, ’92 M LIB S, vice president of Stephan Advertising Agency Inc., Wichita, has been elected to the Kansas Humane Society’s board of directors. She resides in Wichita.*

Leonard W. Clark ’65, SEC ED, a four-sport letterman at Wichita State during his collegiate years, serves as assistant athletic director of special projects as a member of the senior staff for the WSU athletic department. He has been a field attorney, a legal counsel and WSU’s director of equal employment opportunity. Clark lives in Wichita.

Lawrence W. “Larry” Dean ’66, ADMN, is a self-employed long-term care insurance specialist. He resides in Kansas City, Kan.

Donald R. “Don” Estes ’66, EL ED, a retired TWA/American Airlines captain, is president of Sleep Improvement Centers Inc., a medical diagnostic business that specializes in sleep and fatigue disorders. Estes lives in Stony Brook, N.Y.

Rose Mary (Corkle) Mohr ’66, M ISEP, president and CEO of the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, has been named to the association’s board of directors for 2003. She lives in Andover, Kan.

Michael C. Coup ’67, PHYS, ’70 M PHYS, is president, chairman and majority owner of Vornado Air Circulation Systems Inc. The company, which specializes in the manufacture of fans, is based in Andover, Kan. Coup resides in Wichita.

Samuel E. Ramey ’68, MUS P, internationally renowned bass-baritone, returned to his home state to accept the William Inge Theatre Festival’s Kansas Citizen of the Arts award on April 12. Ramey resides in New York, N.Y.

E. George Fahnestock ’69, ADMN, president of Fahnestock Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., has been elected to the Kansas Humane Society’s board of directors. He resides in Wichita.*

William J. “Bill” ’69, PSYCH, ’74 M BUS A, and Pamela A. “Pam” (Kenney) Hamrick ’70, EL ED, co-own TMH Hotels. Wichita’s Hilton Garden Inn, which is owned by the couple, received the 2002 Hotel of the Year award presented by Hilton Hotels Corp. The Hamricks live in Wichita. 

Coburn O. Jacob ’69, AEROE, is chief mechanical engineer for Quality Execution Inc., a company that supplies engineering, procurement and construction management services in Mount Vernon, Ind., where Jacob lives.*

Robert G. “Bob” Knight ’70, Wichita’s former mayor, is a political consultant and has been booked for various speaking engagements across the country. He lives in Wichita.*

Myrna L. (Fletcher) Paris ’70, MUS ED, a contralto featured in the June issue of Opera News, took the stage as the Older Woman in the U.S. premier of Jonathan Dove’s Flight at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in June. Paris, who made her New York City Opera debut as Mama McCourt in The Ballad of Baby Doe in 2001, resides in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Martha A. “Marni” (Tasheff) Vliet ’70, SEC ED, ’77 M SEC ED, president and CEO of the Kansas Health Foundation, has been re-elected to the Wichita Symphony Society Board of Directors. She lives in Wichita.*

Michael F. Bauman ’71, AEROE, director of the Training and Doctrine Command Analysis Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., received the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive at the 2002 Presidential Rank and Secretary of the Army awards ceremony held at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He resides in Shawnee, Kan.*

Linda L. (Clark) Bowles ’71, ENG LIT, is a tax specialist in the customer education unit of the Kansas Department of Revenue in Wichita, where she lives.*

Karen K. (Wade) Morrell ’71, MUS ED, ’01 M INST MUS, ’02 M MUS P, is a saxophonist and the assistant instrumental director at Wichita Northwest High School. She resides in Wichita.

Iva L. (Korte) Goodwin ’72, SC WK, a social worker with the Wichita school district, Chisholm Life Skills Center, has been awarded the School Social Worker of the Year title by the Kansas Association of School Social Workers. She resides in Wichita.

Thomas G. Holstad ’72, ADMN, works in sales with Shapell Industries in Milpitas, Calif. He lives in Pleasant Hill, Calif.*

William R. “Bill” Jones ’72, ADMN, senior vice president of Intrust Bank in Wichita, has been named chairman of the board of directors for the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas for 2003. He lives in Wichita.*

Jerald R. “Jerry” Juhnke ’72, MUS ED, ’76 M MUS P, is a financial advisor with American Express Financial Advisors in Wichita, where he lives.

Pamela K. (Cole) Johnson ’73, SEC ED, ’86 M EADS, is executive vice president of DETAMC (Diversified Educational Training and Manufacturing Co.) Inc., a Wichita-based organization founded in 1992 by her husband, George, to help “worthwhile people who had fallen through the cracks.” DETAMC helps rehabilitate, train and place disabled or disadvantaged individuals with local businesses, including the airline industry. The Johnsons live in Wichita.

Donald J. “Don” McGinty ’73, AA RT, ’76 ADMN, is owner and president of the McGinty Machine Co., a Wichita-based business that manufactures “precision machined parts” and serves an international customer base. He resides in Wichita.

K. Keith Pharr ’73, EE, is a supply chain commodity specialist for Arizona State Trailer Sales in Mesa, Ariz. The company specializes in the sales of campers, haulers and other camping and cargo-related vehicles. Pharr lives in Gilbert, Ariz.

Brian L. Delmez ’74, CHEM, ’76, M CHEM, has been named production manager for Sigma Chemical Co. in Saint Louis, Mo., where he resides with his wife, Ellen E. (Miller) Delmez ’74, ADMN, who is a move manager for United Van Lines in Fenton, Mo.*

Theresa J. “Tracy” (McGrath) Iles ’74, PSYCH, ’80 M BUS A, is senior vice president and director of marketing for Emprise Bank in Wichita. She resides in Wichita.

Mary J. (Salyer) Nigg ’74, DH, registered dental hygienist and office manager at the office of Moxley, Wagle & Lies, Wichita, has been recognized for 25 years of service. She lives in Wichita.

Gary E. Steed ’74, AJ, ’89 M AJ, Sedgwick County sheriff, has been named to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County Board of Directors. He lives in Wichita.

M. Clark Bastian ’75, ADMN, president and CEO of Fidelity bank in Wichita, where he lives, has been re-elected to the Wichita Symphony Society Board of Directors.*

Janet S. (Sawhill) Peery ’75, COMM DIS, ’92 M ENG CR, assistant professor of English at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., award-winning novelist and short story writer, was the final speaker in the 2002-03 Visiting Writers Series at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. She lives in Norfolk.

Karen S. (Stahl) Cox ’76, MKT, is an insurance broker and vice president of employee benefits and financial services for IMA Corp., a company specializing in insurance and risk management. She resides in Sedgwick, Kan.

Ronald D. “Ron” Heikes fs ’76, has joined Southwest National Bank as senior vice president of commercial loans. He lives in Wichita.

Gary L. Enslinger ’77, M SPG, has earned membership in Farm Bureau Financial Services 2002 One and One-Half Million Dollar Club and Agent Triple Crown Winner. He also was inducted into the 2003 Farm Bureau Hall of Fame based on his performance. He resides in Derby, Kan.

Renee M. Hanrahan ’77, PSYCH, ’77 SOC, ’78 M SOC, has joined the Wichita location of Prairie View — a nonprofit, outcomes-based, regional behavioral and mental health system — as vice president of marketing. She lives in Wichita.

John C. Philbrick ’77, ACCT, ’82 M BUS A, is the property manager for the city of Wichita. He resides in Wichita.*

Jessica C. Brown ’78, PA, is director of adult education at McPherson College in McPherson, Kan., where she coordinates the R3 Degree Program, a program designed for adults seeking a BS degree. A Wichita resident, she also is working toward a doctorate of management in leadership degree from the University of Phoenix.

R. Paul Crabb ’78, M MUS P, professor of music at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., has received a $10,000 Walker and Doris Allen Fellowship for Faculty Excellence award for his outstanding contributions to the university. In 1997, he was awarded the Missouri Educator of the Year award, and in 1998, he was named Missouri Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He resides in Kirksville.

Kimberly S. (Dehaven) Hague ’78, CDS, ’99 M CI, reading lab teacher at Meadowlark Elementary School in Andover, Kan., was selected as the Andover school district’s Kansas Teacher of the Year nominee for the elementary level. She lives  in Benton, Kan.*

Joyce B. Suellentrop ’78, M HIST, ’82 M ENG, has retired as an archivist for the Adorers of the Blood of Christ and as associate professor of history at Newman University. A member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau, she has served as a Talk About Literature in Kansas discussion leader since 1987 and has written histories of the town of Colwich, Kan., and of Newman University. She lives in Wichita.

Jon M. Tiger ’78, ADMN, human resources manager for Boeing Wichita, has been re-elected to the Wichita Symphony Society Board of Directors. He resides in Wichita.

Ravi K. Bajaj ’79, BIOL, a cardiologist with Heartland Cardiology and medical director of Wesley Medical Center’s cardiovascular lab, is one of several Wichita cardiologists who are proponents of a new drug-coated stent which, they say, can clear clogged arteries and potentially reduce the need for heart surgery. Bajaj lives in Wichita.

Betty M. (Boys) Drees ’79, BIOL, is dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Drees, who served as interim dean since 2001, is credited with strengthening relationships with a number of the university’s community partners, including Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Western Missouri Mental Health Center. She resides in Overland Park, Kan.*

Susan K. (Schroeder) Duffy ’79, POL S, ’81 M POL S, is executive director of the Kansas Corporation Commission, which works to protect public interests and environmental resources through the regulation of rates, service and safety of public utilities, common carriers, motor carriers and of oil and gas production. Duffy lives in Topeka, Kan.

Esther L. Headley ’79, MKT, ’80 M BUS A, is co-owner and president of Wichita-based Research Partnership Inc., a company that examines consumer habits. Interviewed by a Wichita Business Journal reporter in April, she noted that the war in Iraq had the potential to affect consumer spending. “Some people hold back when we’re going through trying times,” she said. Headley resides in Wichita.*

Carol M. Manning ’79, NURS, ’97 M NURS, vice president of adult services/education with the Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, has been named to the association’s board of directors for 2003. She resides in Derby, Kan.

Robin D. Ziegenfuss ’79, MUS ED, ’88 M INST, is minister of worship and music at the First Christian Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he resides.

David H. “Dave” Burger ’80, CHEM, ’82 MED TECH, ’88 ACCT, a partner in the Wichita office of Kennedy & Coe LLC, oversees accounting and tax services for the firm’s Manufacturing Group. He lives in Wichita.

Pamela Clancy ’80, DH, attorney and partner at Woodard, Hernandez, Roth & Day LLC, has been chosen as president-elect of the Wichita Bar Association for 2004. She lives in Wichita.*

Jean K. (Kindel) Garvey fs ’80, president of The Independent School in Wichita, a K-12 institution dedicated to “providing cost-effective preparatory education within a safe, supportive environment conducive to the intellectual, emotional and physical development” of students, has been elected vice president of the Wichita Symphony Society Board of Directors for the  2003 term. She resides in Wichita.*

Stephen R. Gennette ’80, MUS ED, ’83 M CH M, a former member of the Dallas Symphony Choir, is a music teacher at Fort Stockton High School in Fort Stockton, Texas, where he resides.

Michael R. Martin ’80, GEN S, stockbroker with New England Financial in Wichita, has been named the company’s Securities Producer of the Year. He lives in Augusta, Kan.

Eric S. Namee ’80, ACCT, is an employee benefits attorney with the law firm of Hinkle Elkouri LLC in Wichita. He lives in Wichita.*

Bret A. Plumer ’80, POL S, is vice president of sales in the Food Service Distribution Group for imi Cornelius Inc., Glendale Heights, Ill. The company is the world’s leading supplier of beverage dispensing and cooling equipment. He lives in Geneva, Ill.*

Richard E. “Rick” Rentsch ’80, ACCT, is senior vice president and chief financial officer for University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. The medical center operates two hospitals in Dallas: St. Paul and Zale Lipshy, both of which are affiliated with the University of Texas system. Rentsch resides in Edmond, Okla.*

Susayn C. (Peer) Brandes ’81, ADMN, is president of Hillsboro Industries Inc., a company that specializes in the manufacture of trailers and flatbeds for industrial and farm use. The company is located in Hillsboro, Kan. She resides in Andover, Kan.

The Rev. William J. Neat ’81, M AJ, is associate rector at the Saint James Episcopal Church in Lancaster, Pa., where he resides.

Tammy J. Allen ’82, SP/RADIOTV, ’85 PE, ’95 M BUS A, director of marketing for University Communication-Relations at WSU, helped select recipients of The Wichita Business Journal’s annual 40 Under 40 awards. Criteria for 40-Under-40 recognition included professional accomplishment, community involvement and volunteer activity. Allen lives in Wichita.*

Kathleen A. (Ford) Bronieck ’82, GEN S, co-owns and serves as president of Envoy Inc., an integrated advertising, marketing and public relations firm in Omaha, Neb. She lives in Bellevue, Neb.

Troy Carlson ’82, PHIL, is vice president and managing director for Right Management Consultants in Wichita. The company, which is a career transition and organizational consulting firm with 300 locations in 35 countries, was named one of the Top 5 small businesses by Forbes magazine in 2002. Carlson resides in Andover, Kan.

Tamara (Phye) Davis ’82, AA LEGAL, ’85 FIN, attorney, has opened the law firm of Rebein Bangerter PA. Davis focuses on general business and estate planning and probate. The firm is located in Dodge City, Kan., where she lives.

Dale E. Faber ’82, PE, has been hired by Friends University in Wichita as the head coach of the men’s basketball program. Faber, former assistant to ex-Shocker men’s basketball coach Randy Smithson, resides in Wichita.

David M. Franson ’82, M COMM, is a Bombardier Aerospace spokesman. He lives in Wichita.

Mark E. Romereim ’82, PSYCH, a psychiatrist, owns The Attention Center in Wichita. The center focuses primarily on the treatment of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders. Romereim resides in Andover, Kan.

Kathryn A. (O’Loughlin) Wilhelm ’82, MCH E, consultant and mechanical engineer with Orion Engineering in Mobile, Ala., has been named Engineer of the Year by the Mobile Area Council of Engineers. She is the first female engineer to receive the award. Her various engineering accomplishments included projects for such entities as the City of Mobile, the Department of the Air Force, Wolf Creek Nuclear, Chevron and Cessna Aircraft. Wilhelm resides in Mobile.*

Haris U. Zafar ’82, M BUS A, ’94 PHD CDS, president of Audiology & Hearing Aid Services, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Kansas Hearing Aid Association. He lives in Wichita.*

Thomas “Tom” Aldag ’83, AEROE, senior project engineer for Cessna Aircraft, has been appointed to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County’s board of directors. He lives in Wichita.

Bruce R. Buhr ’83, M BIOL, a certified orthopedic surgeon with the Wichita Clinic, has been elected vice president of the board of Wichita Clinic. He resides in Wichita.*

Matt G. Martin ’83, MCH E, is the director of the 767 tanker transport certification and testing at Boeing Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

John C. Messman ’83, MCH E, has been promoted to director of labor relations with the Boeing Co. in Chicago, Ill. He lives in Batavia, Ill.

Michael D. “Mike” Babich ’84, MKT, is senior vice president and Wichita market president of Hillcrest Bank. A Wichita resident, he also is an incoming member of the 2003-04 WSU Alumni Association board of directors.*

Kit E. (Neil) Curnow ’84, MUS P, works as a CPA for Brazee & Huban CPA in Pittsfield, Mass., and lives in Washington, Mass.

Dong-Bin Jeong ’84, PHD CDS, professor of English linguistics at Chung-ang University in South Korea, serves as chair of both the English linguistic science and English education of children graduate school programs. He also is involved with two institutes and an association dedicated to teaching English and linguistic science. He resides in Gangnamgu, Seoul, South Korea.

Steve Feilmeier ’85, M P ACCT, senior vice president and CFO at Koch Industries, serves as treasurer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County’s board of directors. He lives in Wichita.

Gregory W. Lubelski ’85, M PUB ADM, is the director of the Wayne County Public Library in Wooster, Ohio, where he resides.*

Antony “Tony” Phelps ’85, MKT, ’90 MCH E, is an engineer for ADC Engineering, Gardena, Calif. ADC provides tooling solutions for the aerospace industry. He lives in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Jan (Tholen) Saab ’85, M EL ED, a Newton, Kan., High School English teacher, has been named the 2003 Woman of the Year in both overall and education categories by the city of Newton.

Belinda J. (Johnson) Atteberry ’86, GEN S, president and owner of In Sync Marketing Inc., a Wichita-based marketing company, has been honored by The Wichita Business Journal as one of Wichita’s 40 Under 40. Criteria for this recognition included professional accomplishment, community involvement and volunteer activity. She lives in Goddard, Kan.*

Daniel K. Frye ’86, BIOL, a gynecologist, has opened Women’s Health Care in Dodge City, Kan., where he resides.

W. David Foster ’87, MUS ED, is a middle school band and choir director for Colorado Springs School District 11. He resides in Colorado Springs, Colo.*

David W. Northcutt ’87, FIN, ’96 M HS, is a patient service manager for the Wichita Clinic’s dental dermatology and urology units. He lives in Wichita.

Alissa D. (Kamp) Unruh ’87, INT S, has earned her Kansas real estate salesperson license and joined JP Weigand & Sons as a residential sales professional. She lives in Wichita.*

Julie M. (Mathis) Foster ’88, CDS, ’89 M CDS, is a speech/language pathologist for the Colorado Springs School District 11. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colo.*

Kirk R. Anderson ’89, MGT, vice president of Standard Beverage Corp.’s premium beer division, serves on the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County’s board of directors. He lives in Wichita.

Laura L. Lane-Starks ’89, MKT, vice president of marketing for Intrust bank, Wichita, has been awarded the certified Financial Marketing Professional (CFMP) designation from the Institute of Certified bankers, a nonprofit organization sponsored by the American Bankers Association in Washington, D.C. She lives in Wichita.

Lee Ann Bachand ’90, M ED PSYCH, a transitional one teacher for the Haysville, Kan., school district, retired in June, after 32 years of teaching. She lives in Haysville.*

Patrick C. Kelley ’90, M EAD, is director of business and operations for the Great Bend, Kan., school district. He lives in Great Bend.

Ruth J. Reimers-Keehner ’90, MUS P, Musician First Class with the U.S. Navy and an oboe instrumentalist with the U.S. Navy Bank, Washington, D.C., recently performed with the group at the White Concert Hall on the campus of Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. She resides in Crofton, Md.

Kenneth B. “Kenny” Robinson ’90, AA SOC ST, ’91 PSYCH, ’93 M COUNS, has moved to New York City to take the directorship of a transitional living homeless program for people of transgender experience living with HIV. Robinson lives in Astoria, N.Y.

Janelle M. (Jesseph) Reese ’91, EE, Kansas-area manager for Koch Hydrocarbon LP, has been selected as one of the Key Women in Energy in the Americas. One of 100 honorees, she was cited in the innovation/creativity category for her approach to team-building and problem-solving. She lives in Hutchinson, Kan.

J. Kurtis Starks ’91, BUS A, partner with Vespa Wichita/Vespa Kansas, a Vespa scooter dealership, has been honored by The Wichita Business Journal as one of Wichita’s 40 Under 40. Kimberly K. Janzen ’92, FLD MJR, has been named executive director of the Kansas Humane Society. She resides in Wichita.

Kimbra K. (Remmers) Kroupa ’92, ECE, owns and operates Kidsville Play School in Lincolnville, Kan. She lives in Marion, Kan.

Karyn L. Page ’92, ECON, has been promoted to assistant vice president of commercial lending in the international banking department at Intrust bank, Wichita. She lives in Wichita.*
