From performing at NYC’s Carnegie Hall with the WSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble, to attending a leadership conference in Chicago with the Hispanic American Leadership Organization, to participating in multiple student organizations, to studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain, for six months, Ryan Schrader ’15, made the most of each opportunity Wichita State offered him.
Schrader’s outstanding academic performance and enthusiastic campus involvement did not go unnoticed — a committee comprised of WSU faculty and staff selected him as a 2015 Senior Honor Man.
Given this exemplary Shocker past, it comes as no surprise that Schrader, who majored in accounting and marketing and minored in Spanish and music, is diving into post-collegiate life with drive and determination.
“After two months of reaching out to more than 60 people in my network, researching 150 companies, applying for nearly 60 jobs, interviewing with three companies and taking one trip to Seattle, I accepted the role of account associate at Taphandles LLC,” says Schrader, whose job description includes selling beer tap handles across the United States and, potentially, in South America.
“I’m looking forward to putting my degree to use and making a difference,” he says.
Schrader, who moved to Seattle earlier this fall, credits Wichita State’s Career Development Center for helping him along the way. “The center played an integral role in my university experience and job search process,” he says. “They helped me identify two majors that fit my talents, and they reviewed my résumé during each semester of college. They are an invaluable resource that every student should utilize to ensure the best chance of landing a job soon after graduation.”
Indeed, cheers to helpful advice and great jobs!
