Megan Morgan ’06 wanted to work in the sports world, and knew finding the right foundation was of the utmost importance.

“The sport industry is a very challenging field to break into,” she says. “The first step is to find the right university with the best sport management program that will not only provide you with the education and degree required for a job, but a network that will help you build a career.”

With some help from her aunt Sue Neal, a now-retired math educator at Wichita State, Morgan found what she needed.

“Wichita State’s sport management program played a pivotal role in building my career foundation,” says Morgan, whose job as a student assistant in the athletics box office gave her real world experience and introduced her to valuable career mentors. “It provided a positive learning environment and a network of industry connections vital to my success. The program helped develop me into the professional I am today.”

Currently the director of group sales for the NHL’s Dallas Stars, Morgan previously worked for minor league baseball’s Oklahoma City RedHawks and the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

“I feel like my career journey has just begun,” she says. “Each day is a new day to continue to work hard and hustle because I never want to take the opportunities I’ve been given for granted. I’ve been surrounded by great leaders who inspired me, and I hope to do the same for those that I lead as well.”
