I am truly humbled to be selected as your 1999-2000 president. I'm awed by the passion and commitment of the people who have served in this capacity before me, as well as the many alumni who serve on the association's board, committees and as volunteers for all kinds of alumni events. As we enter a new millennium, I feel it's important we take time to evaluate and plan for the challenges that lie before this organization. During my tenure as president, I will be working with you to set priorities and goals for our association.
I've appointed an alumni task force to review our Shocker Auction, the association's single-largest annual event both in terms of revenues generated for alumni programs and of volunteers involved in its organization. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the auction, and we will be developing a five-year strategic plan to guide how the event will evolve and grow.
The only constant that the 21st century brings is change. Change at the association is driven by volunteers, through their involvement in task-force and committee work. You are key to this association. And I invite you to become even more involved with us in the coming year.
During our next year together, a few of our priorities will be renewed emphasis on our legislative-affairs committee, our student alumni group and our student-recruiting committee. Won't you call to volunteer in an area of interest to you? Believe me, it'll be well worth your time and effort — because without you, we can't hope to meet our goals.
