WSU Athletics Director Jim Schaus

"I am excited to have Judy Favor as part of our team," says WSU Athletics Director Jim Schaus. "She knows how to win and the steps necessary to build a quality softball program. She took a .500 program a few years ago and turned it into one that was ranked No. 1 in the nation this past year.

"She is well-respected nationally as a coach and is familiar with the coaches in the Missouri Valley Conference. She has tremendous energy and vision for our program."

Favor, 34, successfully transformed csu from a mediocre ncaa Division II program into a nationally respected Top-20 program with five-straight ncaa Tournament appearances and a No. 1 ranking in 1999.

"I am excited about coming to Wichita and being a part of the Wichita State team," Favor says. "It is a great opportunity."

Columbus State was 30-22 in 1993, her first as head coach for the Lady Cougars, and in 1999, she coached the team to a 45-5 record and a No. 1 ranking in the final ncaa Top-25 poll.

In seven years as head coach, her teams collected two Peach Belt Athletic Conference titles, two pbac Coach-of-the-Year honors, five pbac runner-up finishes and five-straight ncaa Tournament appearances.

A 1987 graduate of Culver-Stockton College, Canton, Mo., in physical education, Favor also earned a master's degree in 1992 from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo., in guidance and counseling.

She was an All-American pitcher at Culver-Stockton before beginning her collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Southeast Missouri State, where she helped lead the Indians to a fourth-place finish in the 1991 ncaa Tournament.
