WSU Fraternity and Sorority Life Gain New Members, Staff, Programs

Greek News

Greek Retreatt 2016
Greek life at Wichita State posted growth in membership, staffing and programming this fall 2016 semester. WSU’s annual Greek Awards Ceremony is set for Feb. 27, 2017 at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex, where awards, including two new ones, will be presented.

Fraternity and Sorority Life at Wichita State University has had a successful year of growth and new additions to the community, both in staffing and programming.

This past summer, Fraternity and Sorority Life added two staff members to the office, a graduate intern and a student assistant, to assist in providing Greek students with opportunities for even more growth. Not only has the staffing increased, but Fraternity and Sorority Life hosted for the first time a program targeted to high school juniors. Participants visited campus, met Greeks from all chapters, learned about the values that bring chapters together, and experienced Greek Life for two days. The

program introduces high school students to Wichita State and encourages them to join a fraternity or sorority, no matter the institution they choose to attend. Through recruitment programming, the community has seen more students interested in joining a chapter, and many chapters at WSU have grown substantially this fall.

Many of the new members had the opportunity to attend the annual Greek Retreat in mid-October, connecting them even more to the mission of Fraternity and Sorority Life and providing opportunities from chapter members to work together for a common purpose. As Fraternity and Sorority Life looks forward to the 2017 spring semester, the annual Greek Awards Ceremony to recognize the accomplishments of Greeks during 2016 will take place on Feb. 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

This year Fraternity and Sorority Life introduced a new chapter award based on the legacy of James J. Rhatigan, WSU vice president of student affairs emeritus, and the Order of Omega has introduced an Outstanding Junior individual award. Alumni are invited to attend this celebratory event. Fraternity and Sorority Life is looking forward to a promising spring semester of new programs and continuing traditions – including Wichita State’s 89th Annual Hippodrome.
