Rupert K. Hohmann ’51, M MUS, received the Erwin C. and Verna Kaufman Goering Award from Bethel College in North Newton, Kan. The award, given biennially, recognizes outstanding musical achievement. The former Bethel College music professor and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire professor emeritus of music resides in North Newton. 

Oscar V. Larmer ’55, M ART, who is the first graduate of the WSU school of art and design’s Master of Fine Arts program and whose landscape paintings grace many public and private collections, displayed some of his watercolors in the exhibit “Visual Poetry” at Garden City Arts in Garden City, Kan., earlier this year. His artwork can be found in the collections of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Mo., the Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University and WSU’s Ulrich Museum of Art. Larmer, who is retired from teaching painting and drawing at KSU, lives in Manhattan, Kan. 

Richard W. Lucht ’62, M MUS, last spring served as an adjudicator for piano students auditioning to be members of the National Fraternity of Student Musicians. An emeritus piano professor at East Carolina University, he is a resident of Winterville, N.C. 

C. David “Dave” Barnett ’66, PSYCH, is retired after working for Woody Jones Insurance Agency and as an insurance agent at Wyman, Green & Blalock. He lives in Sarasota, Fla. 

Robert E. Barr ’66, MATH, who is retired after serving as a U.S. Air Force pilot for 12 years, then as chief pilot for Halliburton, lives in Boise, Idaho. 

Lawrence R. Bell ’66, BUS ADM, served in the Air Force from 1954-58, worked for the state of Washington’s Department of Social and Health Services and was a financial services specialist before his retirement. He lives in Burien, Wash.*

Robert G. Boling ’66, EL E, is retired after working for Beach Aircraft, KGE, Law Construction Co. and his own firm, Boling Engineering Consultants. A 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, he lives in rural Sedgwick, Kan.

Edward C. Brann II ’66, PHYS, is retired after working in systems analysis at Boeing, where he met Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin while working on the Apollo space program. He is a resident of Pasco, Wash. 

Linda L. (Higgins) Brown ’66, MUS ED, is a retired professional violinist. She played with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, taught music master classes and served as conductor of the Phoenix Community Orchestra. She lives in Overgaard, Ariz. 

Lawrence P. Buck ’66, HIST, is retired after working as a professor of history at Widener University in Chester, Pa., for 42 years. During this time, he spent 20 years as academic vice president and provost and twice served as the university’s acting president. In addition to numerous academic articles, he authored The Roman Monster, coedited The Social History of the Reformation and served as translator for Monemvasia: The Town and its History. He resides in Swarthmore, Pa. 

Viney M. (Polite) Chandler ’66, SOC, spent much of her career working for United Way in Ohio, Iowa and Texas, retiring as president and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County, Fort Worth, Texas. She lives in Fort Worth. 

Jerry J. Cochran ’66, POL SCI, is retired after working for BNSF Railroad. Cochran, who also served in the U.S. Navy, is a resident of Amarillo, Texas. 

Jerry B. Cohlmia ’66, CHEM, is a retired physician who practiced as a nephrologist at Wichita Nephrology Group PA, which he founded in 1976. He lives in Wichita.*

Norman “Norm” E. Conley ’66, AERON E, is retired after a career at Boeing, where he was the project engineering manager for Air Force One and helped invent a wing with improved leading edges for aircraft – for which he and his co-inventors received a patent in 1980. Conley lives in Wichita.*

David “Dave” G. Crockett ’66, POL SCI, is an attorney at Crockett & Gilhousen. A past president of Wichita State’s Student Government Association and a former member of the WSU Alumni Association’s board of directors, he lives in Eastborough, Kan.*

Roy L. Dickson ’66, EL ED, is retired after teaching elementary school in El Dorado, Kan., for 37 years, working as a personal trainer and managing a fitness center. Dickson, who served in the U.S. Navy for six years, lives in Sachse, Texas. 

Bruce D. Ellis ’66, MGT, ’68 M BUS ADM, is retired after working for Bank of America. He lives in Wichita.*

Judith A. (Ogden) Fabian ’66, CDS, is a retired speech language pathologist for Edmond (Okla.) public schools. She lives in Tahlequah, Okla. 

Janice L. (Frazee) Fanter ’66, EL ED, is retired after teaching in Wichita public schools. She lives in Marion, Kan.

Thomas “Tom” E. Garrelts ’66, BUS ADM, is a pastor at City Church Assembly of God in Wichita, where he lives. Previously, he worked for IBM, served in the U.S. Air Force, was a teacher and administrator at Charismatic Bible College of Alaska and a pastor at Wichita Christian Center. 

Barry E. Gaston ’66, SPEECH, had varied work during his 42 years in the radio industry, including as a disc jockey, program director, station manager and an owner. He now runs his own marketing firm, Gaston Marketing Inc. A former member of the Air National Guard, he lives in Wichita.*

Luisa M. (Pequeño) González ’66, FRENCH, ’68 M SPAN, is retired from teaching advanced high school Spanish classes, but still teaches GED courses part-time in Greenville, S.C. She lives in Simpsonville, S.C. 

Conrad L. Graber ’66, ADM, is retired after working at Boeing and as an independent insurance agent. A former member of the U.S. Navy, he lives in Wichita. 

Clifford E. Hall Jr. ’66, SPEECH, ’73 M SEC ED, has retired from working in public radio, public television and public access cable TV. In 1970, he was hired to be the first full-time manager at KMUW, Wichita’s public radio station. Hall currently works as a part-time K-6 teacher assistant and as a K-12 substitute teacher at public schools in Palatine, Ill. A former member of the Kansas National Guard and the U.S. Navy, he resides in Palatine.* 

C. Kay (Gelbach) Hamilton ’66, SEC ED, is an administrative assistant at OFG Financial Services in Arkansas City, Kan., where she lives. 

J. Michael “Mike” Hayes ’66, ANTHRO, ’66 SOC, ’70 M ANTHRO, has worked as an archaeologist, business owner and author. A novelist, his works include The Grey Pilgrim, the “Mad Dog & Englishman” series and The Spirit and the Skull. He lives in Tucson, Ariz. 

Cynthia E. (Nestor) Heckmann ’66, MUS ED, has taught music at public schools in Wichita, Houston and Newtown, Conn. She has served as a choir director, a violinist and violist for the Tulsa (Okla.) Philharmonic Orchestra and as concertmaster of the Aurora (Colo.) Symphony Orchestra. A private music instructor, she lives in Centennial, Colo. 

James “Jim” K. Hockett ’66, EL E, ’90 M BUS ADM, is retired after working at Westar Energy and Black & Veatch. Hockett, who served in the Army from 1967-69, lives in Topeka, Kan.*

Marilyn S. (Minor) Jones ’66, SEC ED, is retired after teaching high school for 12 years and serving as an assistant professor of business administration at Friends University in Wichita for 31 years. She lives in Wichita. 

Janice (Marten) Kamen ’66, EL ED, ’69 M SPG, ’85 SP CSP, has worked for Wichita public schools as a teacher and counselor, and has co-managed Kamen Real Estate. She resides in Wichita.*

Jean “Jeanie” M. (Kauffman) Kniseley ’66, EL ED, is retired after working as a teacher and secretary, most recently for public schools in Orange County, Florida. She lives in Wichita.*

Herbert “Herb” L. Krumsick ’66, BUS ADM, is senior vice president at J. P. Weigand & Sons Real Estate. A former member of the WSUAA’s board of directors, he lives in Wichita.*

John R. Morton ’66, SEC ED, ’68 M SEC ED, is an associate professor at Emporia State. He previously was a public school educator in Wichita, Winfield, Kan., and Newton, Kan. A former SGA vice president and a former member of the WSUAA’s board of directors, he lives in North Newton, Kan.* 

Patricia “Pat” E. (Kemp) Morton ’66, EL ED, has taught in Wichita public schools, served on the Wichita Historical Society board, has been chair of the Winfield (Kan.) Arts Council’s Art in the Park and has been a member of the board for Carriage Factory Art Gallery in Newton, Kan. She is a resident of North Newton, Kan.*

S. Isham Peugh II ’66, MUS ED, is retired after serving as a music educator at Berklee College of Music. A longtime Boy Scouts volunteer, he lives in Lexington, Mass.*

Sandra S. (Lindeman) Pinkstaff ’66, SEC ED, is retired after teaching business classes at Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Mo. for 23 years. Also an active community volunteer, she lives in Ballwin, Mo. 

Lynn R. Ratzlaff ’66, ACCT, spent 30 years at Samsonite Luggage, from which he retired as director of compensation and benefits. A member of the U.S. Army from 1958-1960, he lives in Boise, Idaho. 

James C. Sanders ’66, ART, is retired from James Sanders Construction Co. and Sanders Construction Co. He lives in Wichita.*

Frederick “Fred” L. Sauer ’66, PE, has retired from his position as a certified financial planner for Lincoln Financial Advisors. He is a Wichita resident. 

James “Jim” E. Sidebottom ’66, GEO, is retired after 30 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of colonel, and after spending a number of years serving in city and county government in Nebraska and Colorado. His most recent position was city administrator in Fort Lupton, Colo., where he lives. 

Roy W. Smith ’66, ANTHRO, is retired after working in sales and human resources at GlaxoSmithKline. He lives in McKinney, Texas.*

Robert “Bob” G. Swofford ’66, MGT, is retired from Sunray DX Oil and Sun Oil after holding various positions, including refinery coordinator for fuels and petrochemicals in Tulsa, Okla., and supervisor of quality control and product specifications in Philadelphia, Pa. He also earned a teaching certificate to be a school counselor, a position he held at public schools in Tulsa. A former member of the WSUAA’s board of directors, he resides in Sapulpa, Okla.* 

Douglas “Doug” L. Thompson ’66, BUS ADM, ’70 M BUS ADM, retired as senior vice president of distribution at McKesson Corp., which distributes pharmaceuticals and provides health information technology and medical supplies. He lives in Danville, Calif. 

Jerry F. Thompson ’66, HIST, served in the U.S. Army for 28 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He also worked in health care administration at Santa Rosa Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He is a Wichita resident. 

Keith E. Thompson ’66, PHYS, ’66 PHIL, is retired after serving as a United Methodist pastor, most recently at the First United Methodist Church, Boulder, Colo. As a student at WSU, he served first as SGA vice president and then as president. He lives in Westminster, Colo. 

Sharon E. (Mork) Vela ’66, MUS ED, is retired from teaching music at public schools in Kansas and California. She still teaches K-8 music part-time, and gives private lessons to violin, viola and voice students. She lives in Antioch, Calif. 

Dallas E. Webster ’66, MATH, worked at various universities as an academic and research mathematician, and also spent time at research organizations and startups before starting his own company, Upstream Technology, which provides technological assistance to those with disabilities. He lives in Austin, Texas. 

Richard F. Wurtz ’66, PSYCH, is a psychologist and counselor. He lives in Overland Park, Kan. 

James F. Yagmin ’66, GEO, is retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and then teaching science at Colorado Springs, Colo., public schools. He resides in Colorado Springs. 

Manny P. Zafiros ’66, PE, a member of the WSU men’s 1965 Final Four basketball team, has worked as a teacher, coach and athletic director. He is now public address announcer for the State College of Florida men’s basketball team, and lives in Bradenton, Fla.* 

Leslie E. Zimmerman ’66, BUS ADM, is retired after working as a CPA for 17 years and as a healthcare executive for 25 years, most recently as CEO at the Hutchinson (Kan.) Clinic. A former member of the Air National Guard, he lives in Hutchinson.*

Warren R. Brown ’67, MUS ED, is a retired attorney. A member of the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968-1974, he lives in Overgaard, Ariz.

Richard J. Fanter ’67, ECON, ’68 M ECON, is retired after owning and managing Cyclcast, a market research and analysis company. A U.S. Army veteran, he resides in Marion, Kan. 

Stephen M. Joseph ’69, POL SCI, an attorney and founding member of Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, was honored by Best Lawyers in America-2017 for expertise in both general practice and white collar criminal defense. He lives in Wichita. 

Timothy “Tim” N. Neff ’70, BUS ADM, is president of Timber Products Inc., a wholesale lumber distributor. He lives in Andover, Kan.*

Nicholas “Nick” J. Mork ’71, ENG L/LIT, is a faculty associate in Arizona State University’s School of Community Resources and Development. Mork, who is also serving as interim president and CEO of Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters in Prescott, Ariz., was awarded the 2005 WSU Alumni Achievement Award by the WSU Alumni Association for his 35 years of work in building the Sedgwick County Big Brothers Big Sisters program from the ground up into a nationally recognized program that enabled more children to be mentored more effectively. He lives in Prescott.* 

Larry T. Solomon ’72, POL SCI, is chief judge for Kansas’ 30th Judicial District, which includes Barber, Harper, Kingman, Pratt and Sumner counties. Originally appointed to the court in 1989, he was retained in 2014 for a term that expires in 2019. He lives in Kingman, Kan. 

Ross A. Hollander ’73, SP, founding member of Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, was named Wichita Lawyer of the Year for management employment law by Best Lawyers in America- 2017. A former president of the WSUAA’s board of directors, he lives in Wichita.*

James “Jim” E. Sparr ’74, SEC ED, ’81M URB A, has written The Backward Flying Angel, which explores how experiences, family, institutions of education and religion shape one’s view of life. He lives in Almont, Colo. 

Neil L. Guthrie ’75, PSYCH, ’77 M SPG, ’16 PHD ED, is the Wichita public school district’s assistant superintendent for student support services. He lives in Wichita. 

L. Craig Johnson ’75, BUS ADM, has retired from and closed his Hutchinson, Kan., music store, Johnson Music. He lives in Hutchinson. 

William O. Dwiggins ’76, ART GD, is a Texas Veterans Commission education coordinator. A retired Marine Corps colonel, he lives in Dallas.

Steven P. Girrens ’77, MCH E, ’78 M MCH E, is associate director for engineering at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He lives in Los Alamos, N.M.*

James “Jim” L. Rigg ’77, ART GD, teaches painting at the Lighthouse ArtCenter in Tequesta, Fla. He lives in West Palm Beach, Fla.

John G. Carney ’78, M SPG, is president and CEO of the Center for Practical Bioethics in Kansas City, Mo., a nonprofit that offers assistance with issues in healthcare and research involving patients. He lives in Lenexa, Kan. 

Mark S. Walk ’78, ADM, ’86 M BUS ADM, is a THEMiS – a European Union procurement legislation tool – supply chain trainer for Danone Nutricia Early Life Nutrition in Dublin, Ireland. 

Julia A. Craft ’79, POL SCI, has been named in The National Law Journal’s inaugural issue of Divorce, Trusts & Estates Trailblazers as one of the top 40 family law attorneys in the country for her outstanding career and contributions to the field. An attorney and partner at Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, she lives in Wichita. 

J. Jill (Hand) Gatz ’80, DH, ’02 M MUS P, has been inducted into the Newton (Kan.) High School Fine Arts Hall of Fame. The general manager of the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra, she lives in Newton. 

Kesavalu M. Bagawandoss ’81, M CHEM, is lab director at commercial environmental testing firm TestAmerica’s Nashville, Tenn., office. 

Jeffrey “Jeff” Dewey ’81, MKT, is a judge for the 18th Judicial District, which covers Sedgwick County, Kan. He lives in Wichita.* 

James J. Mischler III ’81, HC ADM, is head of the Department of English, Foreign Languages and Cultural Studies at Northwestern State University. He lives in Natchitoches, La.*

Janet E. (Green) Rickard ’81, EL ED, is a talent acquisition specialist at Country Club Bank’s corporate headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. She lives in Shawnee, Kan. 

Kathleen “Kathy” A. (Ford) Broniecki ’82, GEN ST, is owner and chief strategy officer at marketing agency Envoy Inc. She lives in Ralston, Neb.*

Gregory A. Meadows ’82, ACCT, is owner and president of Advanced Personnel, Inc., a full-service staffing agency. He lives in Wichita.*

Jeffrey R. Penfield ’82, AV MGT, has retired from the U.S. Navy after serving for 34 years and achieving the rank of rear admiral. He earned his Navy Wings of Gold in 1984 and completed more than 4,000 flight hours and 750 carrier landings. Penfield, whose most recent post was as an Operational Test and Evaluation Force commander, lives in Mechanicsville, Md. 

Gregory A. Adams ’83, M NURS, has been appointed group president to lead all Kaiser Permanente regions of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan Inc. Also an executive vice president at Kaiser, he resides in Altadena, Calif.*

Tim C. Dickenson ’83, FLD MJR, is leadership formation program director for Providence Health & Services, a nonprofit that includes hospitals, health plans, clinics, physicians, long-term care facilities, low-income housing, assisted living and home care. He lives in Seattle, Wash.*

David A. Lange ’84, M BUS ADM, is serving a two-year term as vice president of the American Concrete Institute. A professor of civil and environmental engineering – and the Narbey Khachaturian Faculty Scholar – at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he lives in Champaign, Ill.

Laurie D. (Headrick) Niehaus ’84, JOURN, is a closer at Kansas Secured Title in Topeka, Kan., where she lives. 

Larry D. Dissmore ’85, M MUS P, is director of the Evangel University Sinfonia Orchestra. He lives in Springfield, Mo. 

Clelia S. (Thomas) McCrory ’85, M ED PSYCH, is state director for the Kansas Engineering by Design consortium at ESSDACK, a regional educational service center in Hutchinson, Kan. She is a resident of Sterling, Kan. 

Bruce N. Meisch ’85, MATH, is director of technology for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. He lives in Wichita. 

Suzanne M. (Mertens) Campbell ’86, MED TECH, dean of the Allied Health division and director of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan., is serving as 2016-17 board president of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. She lives in Forgan, Okla.* 

Mary S. Craft ’86, EL E, is chief administrative officer at Leidos Holdings, a science and technology firm that serves customers in defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil and health markets. She lives in Marshall, Va.

Azizi A. Hadi ’87, EL E, is CEO and executive director of webe digital, a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad, in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Philip “Phil” K. Atkinson ’88, M MUS ED, has retired as band director for Renwick, Kan., public schools. He lives in Goddard, Kan. 

Lewis “Lew” Hill ’88, AJ, is the head coach of the men’s basketball team at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. 

M. Kristine Savage ’88, AJ, an attorney at Joseph, Hollander & Craft LLC, was named Topeka (Kan.) Lawyer of the Year for white collar criminal defense by Best Lawyers in America-2017. She lives in Osage City, Kan.

Burton St. John III ’88, ENG CR, ’93 M COMM, has coauthored the book Crisis Communication and Crisis Management: An Ethical Approach. An associate professor  of communication and associate chair of the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts at Old Dominion University, he lives in Virginia Beach, Va. 

Kenton J. Stewart ’88, MKT, is senior vice president of the health systems business unit at Astellas Pharma US, where his duties include overseeing payer and key account management, contracts and pricing, reimbursement strategy, health systems marketing, trade channel account operations. He lives in Highland Park, Ill.

Amy S. (Jarus) Stonebraker ’88, ACCT, is a CPA and shareholder at regional accounting firm Woods & Durham. She lives in Salina, Kan. 

Kathleen A. VonAchen ’88, M PUB ADM, is CFO for the unified government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan. 

Mohammad T. Attoun ’89, MCH E, a senior executive with experience in strategy formulation, program design and operations management, is the trade and investment lead professional for the Palestine Market Development Program within DAI, a global development company based in Bethesda, Md. He lives in Jerusalem, Israel.

Robert G. Diepenbrock ’89, M SCI ED, ’99 M EAS, ’10 PHD ED, is superintendent of Kingman-Norwich (Kan.) public schools. He lives in Murdock, Kan.*

Marcia G. (Roberts) Hartman ’89, FIN, is development manager for the city of Derby, Kan. She lives in Mulvane, Kan. 

Gregory “Greg” S. Lindholm ’89, PA, is a physician assistant at Lindsborg (Kan.) Community Hospital’s Family Health Care Clinic. He lives in McPherson, Kan. 

Joseph “Joe” D. Page ’89, ACCT, is managing partner at the Whitlock Co., an accounting firm in Springfield, Mo., where he lives. 

Catherine A. Maninger ’90, M BUS ADM, is vice president for business operations and chief financial officer at Oklahoma City University. She lives in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Amanda “Mandy” K. (Frickey) Rohr ’90, SEC ED, assistant principal at Derby (Kan.) Middle School, was named Exemplary Assistant Principal for the 2015-2016 school year by the Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators. She lives in Derby. 

Jennifer G. Beasley ’91, M EAS, assistant professor of childhood education at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, also directs the university’s office of teacher education. She lives in Springdale, Ark. 

Tony L. Claus ’91, M MUS ED, is the vocal music instructor at Liberal High School in Liberal, Kan., where he lives. 

Jana L. (Kramer) Davis ’91, ACCT, ’91 PSYCH, is COO at Bunting Magnetics, a supplier of magnets and magnet-related equipment for material handling, magnetic separation, metal detection and printing. She lives in Wichita. 

Judith “Judy” M. (Condit) Espinoza ’91, BUS ADM, is director of human resources at Wichita State. She lives in Derby, Kan.

Craig H. Macy ’91, PHIL, is an of-counsel attorney for the law office of Fennemore Craig. His areas of practice include intellectual property and emerging business and technology. He lives in Reno, Nev.* 

Prawut Sutarasuwan ’91, EL E, is a billing support system program manager at the communications technology company Ericsson in Jakarta, Indonesia. 

Christina M. (Pellant) Trocheck ’91, AJ, is city prosecutor for the city of Salina, Kan. 

Cynthia “Cindy” A. (Place) Knoeppel ’92, M NURS, is chief clinical officer at Newton (Kan.) Medical Center. She lives in Whitewater, Kan. 

Sharon (Pickett) Burch ’93, M NURS, is a holistic nurse practice specialist at the American Holistic Nurses Association in Topeka, Kan. 

Anthonio “Tony” M. Johnson ’93, AJ, is a behavior intervention specialist at Wichita public schools. He is a Wichita resident.*

Dawn M. Johnson ’93, SEC ED, ’01 M EAS, ’14 PHD ED, is superintendent of the Nickerson-South Hutchinson (Kan.) public school district. She lives in Hutchinson, Kan.*

Adam D. Knapp ’93, JOURN, wrote and directed the documentary “Out Here in Kansas,” which looks at differing views on homosexuality. He lives in Andover, Kan.

Angela D. Madden ’93, INT ST, is pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, Kan. 

Elena Bermúdez ’94, I BUS, is global operations chief of staff at Newedge, a subsidiary of European financial services group Societe Generale, in London, England. 

Michael J. Mohn ’94, MGT, is police chief in Abilene, Kan., where he lives. 

Ihssane Mounir ’94 AEROS E, ’96 M AEROS E, is vice president of sales and marketing for Boeing’s commercial airplanes division. He lives in Issaquah, Wash. 

LeAnn R. (Dietz) Adams ’95, FIN, a certified general real property appraiser at Martens Appraisal, has earned the Appraisal Institute’s MAI membership designation. The designation requires graduate-level classes and experience in the valuation of commercial, industrial, residential and other properties. She lives in Wichita. 

B. Kim Cheah ’95, FIN, ’96 M BUS ADM, is an assistant vice president for Arvest Wealth Management in Fayetteville, Ark., where she lives.
