Ruth (Dieffenbacher) Scheer '48, ENG L/LIT, also known as "Grandmother Ruth," believes all children should have access to a childhood in which their dreams and imagination can flourish. As the author of several children's books — which include a series of zoo stories influenced by animals at the Sedgwick County Zoo — she hopes to help children learn how to be joyful and to have compassion. Scheer also visits children at local elementary schools to share the joys of reading.*

Oliver W. Stringer '50, PSYCH, who works in the VA hospital system helping in the rehabilitation of wounded and sick veterans, was instrumental in enabling a number of veterans to attend the dedication of the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. He lives in Chillicothe, Ohio.*

Pink A. Jackson '51, AERON E, WWII veteran, was honored on the National Registry of Remembrances, in conjunction with the dedication of the National WWII Memorial. Jackson lives in Wichita.

Darrell D. Hill '55, PE, '61 M PE, who worked for 40 years as a teacher, principal and superintendent, has been honored with a lifetime achievement award in education. He lives in Yukon, Okla.

Robert W. Thayer '55, M MUS ED, dean emeritus and trustee professor in the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, will serve as interim head of the University of Connecticut's department of music through June 2005. He lives in Bowling Green.

John R. Durbin '56, MATH, '58 M MATH, professor of mathematics at UT Austin, was awarded the Civitas Award in recognition of dedicated and meritorious service to the university above and beyond the regular expectations of teaching, research and writing. The presentation was made in September at the university's 120th anniversary celebration. Durbin lives in Austin.*

Robert R. "Bob" Warrender '57, MUS ED, '60 M MUS ED, has taught music in Kansas for nearly half a century in Sedan, El Dorado, Winfield and Wichita, even after his retirement in 1994. He plays sax (alto, tenor and baritone) with the Senseney Band, the Shrine Concert Band, Shrine Ensemble and Shrine Dance Band, all in Wichita, as well as the Cowley County Community College Saxophone Quartet and the Arkansas City Community Band. Warrender lives in Geuda Springs, Kan.

Robert J. McClelland '58, MCH E, is a process leader of rotating machinery design for Boeing Inc., Canoga Park, Calif. He lives in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Jane C. Durbin '59, MUS ED, retired four years ago after 29 years with the Austin, Texas, Symphony, and continues to teach private flute lessons in her home. She lives in Austin.*

Daniel S. Rogge '61, EL E, is an electrical consultant for Black & Veatch in Kansas City, Mo., where he also lives.

Jo Anne (Deschner) Lowe '62, MUS ED, has retired from the University of Georgia and lives in Athens, Ga.

R. Ruth (Goe) McNay '62, ME EL ED, former high school math teacher, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Dec. 14. She lives in Wichita.

Rosalind R. (Regier) Scudder '64, CDS, '72 M CDS, '78 PHD CDS, professor of communicative disorders and sciences at Wichita State since 1972, was one of nine WSU employees to receive a President's Distinguished Service Award in May. She lives in Newton, Kan.*

Hugh E. Brady '66, PE, is principal of Northern Vance High School in Henderson, N.C. He lives in Carolina Beach, N.C.*

J. Eric Engstrom '66, M HIST, is a Wichita historian and coin collector who resides in Wichita.

James D. "Jim" Moore '66, HIST, '69 M EAS, is executive director of the Wichita Community Foundation. He lives in Wichita.*

Hal H. Rennert '66, ENG L/LIT, '69 M ENG, professor in the department of German and Slavic studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville, has published Essays on Twentieth-Century German Drama and Theater: An American Reception 1977-1999 with Peter Lang Publishing. Rennert lives in Gainesville.*

Michael J. "Mike" Baker '67, BUS A, is a plant accountant for RadioShack Corp. in Arlington, Texas, where he also lives.*

Homer H. Schmitz '67, M BUS A, serves as interim dean of the St. Louis University School of Public Health. He lives in St. Louis, Mo.

Allen C. Schuermann '68, M MATH, retired in May from his position at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where he also lives.

E. George Fahnestock '69, BUS A, owner of Fahnestock Heating & Air Conditioning, was elected to the steering council of the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition Board of Investors. Fahnestock lives in Wichita.*

Edward E. "Ed" Jones '69, CHEM, '70 M CHEM, has retired from Miami University in Ohio after 31 years as a professor of science education, five years as a classroom science teacher and five years in the electric utility industry. He lives in Oxford, Ohio.

Nancy J. (Elliott) Martin '69, PSYCH, serves as COO of Emergency Services PA in Wichita. She also is chair-elect of the endowment board at WSU, a member of Rotary Club, a board member of Music Theatre of Wichita, active with the Wichita Community Foundation and chairwoman of the personnel committee for the Greater Wichita YMCA. She lives in Wichita.*

Steven L. Naylor '69, BUS A, is vice president and director of information technology for the Federal Home Loan Bank in Topeka, Kan. He previously held a similar position with Humana Healthcare Plans in Kansas City, Mo., as well as consulting with Sprint, Sprint PCS and TWA. Naylor also spent time in the UK assisting with the start of Euphony Communications Ltd., a European telecommunications company. He resides in Topeka, Kan.*

Willis E. "Wink" Hartman '70, BUS A, president of Hartman Oil Co., will open a steak and seafood restaurant called Chester's Chophouse in March 2005 at Wichita's Waterfront development. He lives in Rose Hill, Kan.

Sharon F. Hobbs '70, ENG L/LIT, an associate professor in the department of educational theory and practice at Montana State University-Billings, is the 2004 recipient of the university's Faculty Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship and Service. She lives in Billings.

Frances B. "Fran" (Newman) Sandoval '70, MUS P, is an administrator with Motorola in Rio Verde, Ariz, where she also lives.

Modena L. "Denie" (MacLean) Spurlock '70, EL ED, '98 M EAS, is principal of Seltzer Elementary School in Wichita, where she lives.

Michael J. Arendt '71, M MUS T/C, professor of music at the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc, is associate dean of the university. He lives in Manitowoc.

Craig A. Challender '71, M ENG, an English professor at Longwood University in Farmville, Va., received the school's Student Faculty Recognition Award in May. He lives in Farmville.

June L. Forman '71, DH, is a dental hygienist living and working in Monument, Colo.

Clifton E. "Clif" Forrest '71, JOURN, is COO of Heartland Publications, headquartered in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He is responsible for 22 daily and weekly newspapers in seven states and also serves as publisher of the Portsmouth, Ohio, Daily Times. He previously spent 23 years as VP and COO for print and broadcast operations owned by Brill Media Co. with headquarters in Evansville, Ind. He lives in Portsmouth.*

Jim L. Garrett '71, EL ED '75 ACCT, has joined Prudential Dinning-Beard's Augusta, Kan., office as a sales associate. He lives in Augusta.

Anthony E. "Tony" Lalumia '71, ACCT, '93 M PUB A, is a retired City of Wichita accountant. He lives in Wichita.*

Mark D. Beeson '72, BUS A, co-owns Money Mailer, which direct-mails ads and coupons to Wichita residents. He lives in Wichita.

Ronald C. Brunton '72, MCH E, vice president of manufacturing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, serves as chairman of the board of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. Brunton lives in Wichita.

James W. "Jim" Fox '72, EL ED, is president of Sensiple, a business and information technology consulting firm in Omaha, Neb., where he lives.

Lynn A. (Olson) McWhirter '72, PE, is a librarian at Rockford Environmental Science Academy in Rockford, Ill., where she also lives.

Sharon L. (Isaac) Schell '72, EL ED, is a library media specialist with the Kansas City, Mo., school district. She lives in Lee's Summit, Mo.

Michael L. Slaughter '72, PSYCH, is CEO of M&J Engineering in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., where he also lives.

Lorene R. (Forrest) Valentine '72, BUS A, '85 M BUS A, director of rural health education and services at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, has received a Lewis Gorin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rural Health Care. She lives in Wichita.*

Eddie R. Foster '73, BUS A, has retired as vice president of administrative services for Boeing Wichita Credit Union. He lives in Shawnee Mission, Kan.

Phillip M. Gampper '73, BUS A, is a flight manager and air traffic coordinator for the Tanker Airlift Control Center at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He lives in O'Fallon, Ill.

Michael E. "Mike" Powell '73, MUS P, is a musician with the American Brass Quintet. He resides in Leonia, N.J.

Dale L. Williamson '73, BIOL, '76 M BIOL, is a U.S. Army veterinarian. He lives in Germany.

Carroll L. Allred '74, SEC ED, is category manager of produce with the U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Commissary Agency in Fort Lee, Va. He lives in Midlothian, Va.

Winston C. Brooks '74, EL ED, '77 M EL ED, '80 SP EAS, superintendent of the Wichita Public Schools, received the 2004 Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications Award from the National School Public Relations Association. Brooks lives in Wichita.

Janet L. (Dagenais) Brown '74, ENG L/LIT, is an education and social sciences librarian with Wichita State University. She lives in Wichita.

Debra K. "Kay" (Smith) Crawford '74, JOURN, is a project director for the Statewide Restorative Justice Initiative at the Hudson Institute in Indianapolis, Ind. She lives in Carmel, Ind.

Katheryn S. "Kathy" (Haas) Green '74, AA RT, '76 GEN S, '87 AA LA, is a legal assistant at Hinkle Elkouri Law Firm in Wichita, where she also lives.*

Randall L. Gutscher '74, AERON E, is chief of the operations division of the directorate of information management with the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Ala. He lives in Madison, Ala.

Carol L. (Finch) MacSpadden '74, MUS ED, '76 M MUS H/L, is a Title 1/Learning Assistance program coordinator and music teacher with the Wilson Creek, Wash., school district. She lives in Warden, Wash.

Thomas M. Rogers '74, PHYS, is a product engineer with OcŽ North America in Boca Raton, Fla., where he also lives.

Diana L. (Campbell) Thurman '74, CDS, '75 M CDS, is a senior manager for customer relations with Westar Energy in Topeka, Kan., where she also resides.

Sarah E. (Nelson) Wilkerson '74, PSYCH, '76 PA, a physician assistant with Docs Who Care, provides emergency room coverage and Family Care Center support at Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kan. She lives in Sedan, Kan.

Nancy (Robertson) Cook '75, EL ED '86 M COMM, has opened Robertson Cook Communications in Little Rock, Ark., where she also lives.

Mary J. (Ohman) Rasinski '75, EL ED, is the president of Children's Village Montessori in Minneapolis, Minn., where she also lives.

Gary R. Startzman '75, BUS A, is human resources director for Black & Veatch Co. in Overland Park, Kan. He lives in Shawnee Mission, Kan.

Terry E. "Rebound" Benton fs '76 owns T.B.I. West Coast in Redwood City, Calif., where he also lives.

Jan (Osborn) Dell '76, MUS ED, is director of administration with the University of Phoenix in Lone Tree, Colo. She lives in Castle Rock, Colo.

Diane L. Good '76, ANTHRO, '79 M ANTHRO, is author of Brown v. Board of Education: A Civil Rights Milestone. She resides in Topeka, Kan.

Sharon J. Morales '76, ENG L/LIT, '77 AA LA, works for Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose, Calif., where she also resides.

Anne M. (Stewart) Stansbury '76, JOURN, is assistant director for admissions and enrollment management at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Iowa, where she also resides.

Kay D. Wiggins '76, BUS ED, is merging her three stores — Kay Wiggins Jewelry Inc., Kay Wiggins Bead Boutique and KWJ Wholesale — into one business: Kay Wiggins Jewelry, Beads and Gifts. She lives in Wichita.

Judith L. (Jabara) Ayers '77, EL ED, is a pre-kindergarten teacher at Pauline Central Primary School in Topeka, Kan. She was selected as the USD 437 elementary teacher of the year for 2003 and represented the district for the Kansas state teacher of the year award. She lives in Topeka.

Clifford Fanning '77, SC WK, who was Big Brother to Kevass Harding 27 years ago, has seen their story published as Little Moments, Big Magic: Inspirational Stories of Big Brothers and Sisters and the Magic They Create. He lives in Bel Aire, Kan.

Martin H. "Marty" Francis '77, M EL E, is director of hardware and system development for Engenio in Wichita, where he also lives.

David A. "Dave" Grainger '77, CHEM, is medical director of the Cypress Surgery Center in Wichita, where he also resides.

Marilee K. (Keller) Hopkins '78, ACCT, is financial advisor to the Dow Corning Qualified Settlement Facility, a $1 billion fund. She lives and works in Chicago, Ill.

Gary D. King '78, BUS A, works for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, where he markets the company's CareDirections insurance programs in a 10-county area in south central Kansas. King lives in Wichita.

Dennis L. Bush '79, FIN, '81 M BUS A, is one of three owners of Carriage House, an assisted living center in midtown Wichita. He lives in Wichita.

Thomas J. Gluszek '79, AERON E, '88 M AERON E, is an associate technical fellow of the Boeing Co., Wichita. He lives in Derby, Kan.*

Julie-Ellen (Stallard) Acosta '80, EL E, '84 M EL E, has left her position as director of quality and process improvement with Boeing Wichita to take a new position with Boeing Phantom Works in Seattle, Wash., where she will serve as vice president of structures technology, prototyping and quality. Acosta lives in Bellevue, Wash.*

Patti L. (Bloodworth) Moser '80, NURS, is 2004-05 president of the board of directors for the Wichita affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She lives in Wichita.

Ruth L. "Lee" Riggins-Hartman '80, EL ED, is assistant to the principal and dean of students and computer teacher for Victory Christian School in Tulsa, Okla., where she resides.

Kimberly A. (Becker) Thomas '80, EL ED, '84 M EL ED, a math teacher, is one of Kansas' six finalists for the 2004 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Thomas lives in Wichita.

Richard D. Wilson '80, AA AJ, is a captain with the Kansas Highway Patrol. He lives in Pittsburg, Kan.

Janice D. (Unruh) Davidson '81, NURS, '84 M NURS, graduate program director for the Mississippi University for Women Division of Nursing, serves as a Fellow of the 2004 AACN Academic Leadership Program funded by the Helene Fuld Health Trust, as a National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties quality curriculum consultant and also serves as an accreditation visitor for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. She lives in Columbus, Miss.

John E. Freeman '81, CHEM, has been promoted to captain in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps. Freeman lives in Helotes, Texas.

Rhandalee (Donaldson) Hinman '81, PERS, serves as the 2004-05 secretary of The Historic Midtown Citizens Association of Wichita. She lives in Wichita.

Janice M. "Jan" Kennedy '81, M ACCT, is Sedgwick County treasurer. She lives in Wichita.

Scott C. Phillips '81, AA RT '83 RT, '88 M HS, has been with Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla., since 1995 serving as director of cardiovascular, as director of clinical services and currently as vice president responsible for professional clinical services. He lives in Bartlesville.

Tammy J. Allen '82, SP/RTF, '85 PE, '95 M BUS A, is associate vice president for marketing and communications at WSU. She lives in Wichita.*

Tamara L. (Phye) Davis '82, AA LA, '85 FIN, who in 2003 opened a Dodge City, Kan., law firm focusing on estate planning, family business/small business succession planning, probate and related matters, serves on the Kansas Continuing Legal Education Commission for the term 2003-06. She also is an adjunct faculty member at Garden City Community College, where she teaches courses on wills, trusts and estate planning and giving. She lives in Dodge City.

Randall J. "Randy" Doll '82, BUS, is president and CEO of the Community Foundation in Wichita. He lives in Andover, Kan.*

Jamey D. (Fogg) Kendall '82, NURS, is director of special health services for the state of Kansas. She lives in Topeka, Kan.

Roxanna M. "Roxy" (Bishop) Kuhlmann '82, EL ED, is a second grade teacher with Indian Prairie Schools in Naperville, Ill. She lives in Aurora, Ill.

Sharon K. McEachern '82, PSYCH, collage artist, is one of 15 international artists to win entry in "The 10th Annual Exhibition of Women's Art," held this summer at SoHo20 Chelsea Gallery, New York. She has also worked as a psychotherapist and journalist. She lives in Denver, Colo.

Cynthia J. Mines '82, M ENG, publisher and editor of The Wichita Times, won four first-place awards at the Kansas Professional Communicators conference in Abilene, Kan. She lives in Wichita.

Mark E. Romereim '82, PSYCH, is owner of and psychiatrist at the Attention Center in Wichita, where he also resides.

John H. Yancey '82, M URB A, is medical projects and production manager with LDS Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lives in Farmington, Utah.

Valerie L. (Olson) Baldwin '83, POL S, has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be assistant secretary of the Army for financial management. Baldwin lives in Washington, D.C.

Patricia A. "Pat" (Smith) Fluke '83, JOURN, '85 PSYCH, owns FA Supply Inc. in Wichita, where she also lives.*

Percival J. "Percy" Kirk '83, GEN S, is Cox Communications vice president and region manager in Omaha, Neb., where he also lives.

Maurine E. Means '83, FIN, is president of Curbing Concepts Corp. SE Inc. in Covington, Ga., where she also resides.*

Bernard W. Sanders '83, M MUS P, music director for two parishes in Tuttlingen, Germany, has released a CD of his compositions for brass and organ called "Paean" on the Ambitus label in Hamburg, Germany.*

Gary A. Tufly '83, M E MGT, is program manager of military products with Aeroflex in Wichita. He lives in Goddard, Kan.

Cecilia L. (McBee) Green '84, JOURN, has been named Communicator of Achievement by the Illinois Woman's Press Association for her professional accomplishments and service to her community and to the National Federation of Press Women. She lives in Bartlett, Ill.*

Keli K. Lewis-Barron '84, PE, '89 M PE, is assistant recreation director at Wichita State's Heskett Center. Lewis-Barron lives in Wichita.

Anita K. (Steckline) Cochran '85, SP/FRTV, news anchor for Wichita's KSNW, serves on the board of directors of the Wichita affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She lives in Wichita.*

Laura L. (Gerst) Ewton '85, AA DH, '85 DH, is a dental hygienist with Rock Hotel Dental in Farmington, Utah. She lives in Layton, Utah.

David K. "Dog" Henson '85, MGT, is director of golf at the Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan. He lives in Rose Hill, Kan.

Kevin C. Hoppock '85, AA NAT SCI/MATH, a family physician with the Wichita Clinic, serves as speaker of the house for the Kansas Medical Society. He lives in Valley Center, Kan.

Richard Runyan '85, MKT, '88 ACCT, is director of retail accounting for Nash Finch Co. in Minneapolis, Minn. He lives in Richfield, Minn.

Kelli R. Sandburg '85, ACCT, started work in 2002 as an accountant for American Agency Systems Inc., a worker's compensation general agent. This year, she was transferred to the corporate office, Midland Management Corp. She lives in Houston, Texas.

Richard A. Winters '85, BUS, '90, SEC ED, is assistant professor of Spanish at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He lives in Lafayette.

James K. Campbell '86, EL ED, '99 M EAS, the principal of IXL Elementary School in Arkansas City, Kan., was awarded CornerBank's Community Cornerstone Award for July 2004. He lives in Arkansas City.

Sheryl Koehn-Kuchera '86, EL ED, an educational consultant for Renaissance Learning in Madison, Wis. She lives in Quinter, Kan.

Wayne S. Lewis '86, MATH, is Cisco Academy manager for Honolulu Community College in Honolulu, Hawaii. He lives in Mililani, Hawaii.

Peggy "Peg" (O'Brien) Norris '86, GEN S, is head of life finance operations with ING in West Chester, Penn. She lives in Downington, Penn.

Karen S. (Toman) Rudiger '86, M ENG, is a senior software engineer with UNISYS Corp. in Houston, Texas. She lives in League City, Texas.
