RnR: Shocker Excitement

Rockin' the Roundhouse

Rockin’ the Roundhouse — for the fifth
year now — brings excitement of a different kind to Charles Koch Arena. Hosted by the alumni association and athletic department, the fundraising event features food and drinks from Wichita’s finest eating establishments, live music and incredible live and silent auctions.

And all the fun is for a rockin’ good cause, because funds raised go to support scholarships and programs for Wichita
State students, alumni and Shocker
student-athletes.

Bidders will have a wide variety of exciting packages to select from during the live auction segment of Rockin’ the Roundhouse. “We have something to appeal to all interests,” says Gary Jones, director of development for the alumni association. “It’s a great selection, from fun escapes to events right here
at home.”

The 19 live auction packages up for bid include “Pick Your Paradise,” with a six-day stay in a world-class getaway.
Or how about a Brooks & Dunn concert and the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas? Closer to home, there are dinner packages with Shocker basketball coach Gregg Marshall and another with WSU President Don Beggs, or
a backyard blast — complete with Coleman spa — to bid on.

And if silent auctions are more your style, Rockin’ the Roundhouse offers hundreds of items, ranging across categories covering the office, home, jewelry, clothes, and special Shocker items that can only be found at this
event. Doors open at 6 p.m., Sat., Oct. 11 at Charles Koch Arena.

Beautifully Challenging

Beijing was in the world's spotlight for most of the summer, but for 52 Wichitans Taiwan has been their focus.

Artful Presence

In 1999, The Shocker asked groups of Wichita State alumni and faculty to cast their ballots for the "Top 40 Shockers
of All Time." Mira Merriman, art historian and professor emeritus of art and design, came in at No. 32.

Prime Selling Points

Bobby Gandu '02/06 is fired up about his latest career move. After serving as WSU's interim director of admissions for the past 10 months, he was named to the position on a permanent basis in early August.
