The Marshall Plan

Gregg Marshall
Second-year coach Gregg Marshall is revving up for what he describes
as an "ambitious" schedule with a "youthful" team for the 103rd regular
season of Shocker basketball.

Wichita State’s 2008-09 men’s basketball schedule is highlighted by 16 home games, a trip to the Old Spice Classic and games against at least three 2008 NCAA tournament opponents.

“This is quite an ambitious schedule, especially the away and neutral court games, with a team as youthful and inexperienced as ours,” Marshall says.
This season, the latest in technology will make it easier than ever for Wichita State fans to stay in the know. Three athletic department services are under way, all available through www.GoShockers.com.

“The Wheat Wire” began in August. This athletic department blog features “stories that don’t get told within the confines of a three-minute sportscast at 10 p.m., or in five to six pages of a morning paper,” as the introductory blog explains it.

For texting fans, there’s Shocker Text, which provides text messages about breaking news, game results, promotions and more. To sign up, go to the icon on the left-hand side of GoShockers home page and follow the link. To receive test messages, you must reply to a validation message.

For those who want the visual aspect of a game, ShockerVision offers steaming video webcasts. It’s also available through the main website. On the technical side of things, to use ShockerVision, you must have high-speed Internet access and Windows Media Player 9 or higher. Also, home sporting events are not available on the web within a 100-mile radius of Wichita State.

State-of-the-Art Swings

Construction on the Hartman Golf Practice Facility, made possible by a lead gift from Wichitan Wink Hartman and several other donors, has begun at WSU's Braeburn Golf Course.

No Messin' Around

Melissa Granville certainly isn't the first player that Shocker coach Chris Lamb has plucked from California, a well-known volleyball hotbed, but she is probably the most honest about her initial feelings toward Wichita.
