Transformation of Track Merits Hall of Fame Honors

J.K. Kornelson
J.K. Kornelson

John "J.K." Kornelson, track and field coach at Wichita State from 1978 to 2000, is the newest inductee into the Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Fame.

During his 22-year career at WSU, he coached WSU's only modern day National Champion in 800-meter Einars Tupuritis.

He also witnessed key transformations in the sport of track- many of which he had a hand in. He spent 15 years on the NCAA Track Coaches Association Executive Committee immersed in projects such as eligibility, Title IX issues, national qualifying requirements and even the regional qualifying concept that current WSU head track coach Steve Rainbolt uses today.

SHOCKER SPORTS

Dream Season

Mary Elizabeth Hooper's friends at Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas, didn't mince words. They told her she was crazy.

Heartbreaker in St. Louis

Wichita State's run in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis ended March 6 on a last-second shot from Creighton's Booker Woodfox to give the Bluejays the quarterfinals win, 63-62.

Big Hitter

The volleyball roster on goshockers.com lists Emily Stockman at an even 6 feet, which is apparently a generous measurement.
