Director's Corner

BY DEBBIE KENNEDY ’94

In my first message as executive director of the university’s oldest and largest support organization, I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to help advance the mission of the WSU Alumni Association. I am honored to have been chosen for this position.

Although the professional path I have taken to become ED may not appear to be a direct one, when I reflect back it seems almost inevitable that I would end up here. I’ve been a Shocker fan since I was a little girl, dreaming of becoming a student, attending ball games with my dad and listening to Gus Grebe on the radio. When I was 8 years old, I even named my dog Shocker! In 1994, I received my master’s degree in nursing and became a dues-paying member of the association.

After I married Mike Kennedy ’71, the “Voice of the Shockers,” and then joined the nursing faculty at WSU in the mid-1990s, my life became even more closely intertwined with WSU. I can promise you that no one loves this university more than I, or is more enthusiastic about all the things WSU has to offer. I look forward to working with all of you in various endeavors. We are all Wichita State, and with your help, I am eager to continue to spread the sense of pride we feel for this amazing place.
