Wichita State President John Bardo awarded alumna Ruth David ’75 the President’s Medal at the 2014 Fall commencement ceremony, held Sunday, Dec. 14, at Koch Arena.
David left her family’s Kansas farm to study electrical engineering at WSU, graduating in 1975 before earning her master’s and doctorate degrees at Stanford University.
From there, she went on to a noted career in public service, garnering numerous accolades. Among them are an alumni association-bestowed Achievement Award in 2003 and a 2010 induction into Women in Technology International’s Hall of Fame.
Her career has been focused on national security, intelligence and homeland security, with emphasis on the application of systems thinking and strategies for resilience. She also analyzes the effects of globalization on science and technology enterprises.
From 1995-1998, David served as deputy director for science and technology at the CIA. Since then, she has worked as president and CEO of Analytic Services Inc. (ANSER), a nonprofit corporation that provides independent research and analytic services to public sector clients who work in the areas of national security, homeland security and public safety. In addition, she serves on several governmental, educational and nonprofit advisory bodies.
David is the co-author of three books on signal processing algorithms and has authored or co-authored numerous scientific papers.
