When Kim Cameron ’88 walked into the Grammy Awards last year, she was amused to find herself in the shadow of the wildly costumed Lady Gaga making her entrance a mere few feet of red carpet ahead.
But Cameron, never one to feel upstaged, knew her own day would come. And so it has.
This year, Cameron’s song, “A Dance,” hit No. 31 on the coveted Top 40 national Radio and Records, Nelson’s Billboard chart – a feat no other self-funded indie musician has achieved.
“A Dance” rode the chart for 11 straight weeks. For a second-career, indie singer-songwriter only a few years into her music career, this feat is nothing short of remarkable.
And it has made Cameron’s fans across the country go gaga with excitement. Cameron takes it in stride, and with humility.
“This was a lot of work to achieve, and in some ways we were lucky,” she admits. “Sometimes things just come together and the underdog wins. We feel so fortunate.”
For Cameron, there will be no resting on laurels, however. This is just the beginning, she says. For more on her and her band, Side FX, see www.sidefxband.net and http://kimcameronmusic.com.
