Clark D. Jackson ’75 was an active, life-long supporter of Wichita State, the WSU Alumni Association and, especially, of WSU’s chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
Jackson earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at WSU, where the Phi Delt also became a member of the Student Alumni Association, an involvement that led to years of volunteer service to the alumni association. He worked on the association’s homecoming and membership drive committees, and was perhaps best known for his creative input to the Shocker Auction. He twice garnered Volunteer of the Month honors, in July 1988 and October 1989.
As a Phi Delt, he was a board member of the fraternity’s alumni club since 1978, serving as president in 1979. His highest profile position with the fraternity was as project chair for the WSU Phi Delta Theta’s Educational Foundation, a position that carried the challenge of raising $1.4 million for the construction of a new chapter house. The house at 4000 E. 21st Street was dedicated May 1, 1993.
Health-conscious and an avid weight-lifter, Jackson was diagnosed with ALS in 2009 after years of health declines. In a fraternity correspondence, he wrote about living with the disease: “I’m not in any pain. I suffer with inconveniences. My strength, endurance continue to decline. Simple tasks take longer to accomplish. … My goal is to maintain my dignity to the end. With God at my side, I will.”
Clark Jackson died Feb. 19 in Laredo, Texas.
