Stage Star

BY ANNA PERLEBERG FS '05

In 1988, Nancy (Park) Amos fs '44 estimated that she had performed in at least 100 plays for legendary director Mary Jane Teall and Wichita Community Theatre. She'd tried to quit the stage, she said, but every time she'd watch a performance and think, "Oh, look at the fun they're having. Isn't that wonderful. I must do that again." Amos' performance as cafe singer Cherie in Bus Stop, by Kansas playwright William Inge, wowed the author himself and is considered by many to be her best portrayal.

She died July 1 in Wichita.
