Woody Crumbo (1912-1989)

Woody CrumboThis year is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Native American artist, flautist and dancer Woodrow "Woody" Wilson Crumbo fs '36.

Crumbo enrolled at the University of Wichita in 1933 to study with two of the university's most celebrated faculty members: musician and composer Thurlow Lieurance, who was dean of fine arts from 1926 to 1946, and the illustrious watercolorist Clayton Henri Staples.

Slated to open June 21 at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City is the Woody Crumbo Centennial exhibition, featuring silkscreens, etchings, drawings and paintings by the renowned artist.

The show is co-sponsored by Crumbo's daughter, Minisa Crumbo Halsey.
