Legacy of Service

Harry F. "Bud" Lawless '38 was committed to helping others. A familiar face at university and Alumni Association events, Lawless compiled impressive records of service that benefited not only his alma mater, but also his profession and community.

A business administration graduate, he left Wichita for a time as part of his 37 years of service to twa, taking assignments in New York, Chicago and St. Louis. In Miami, he was twa's general manager of sales and service for the Southern United States.

Back at home, Lawless was commended for his outstanding service to the Wichita community in 1993 when the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Wichita awarded him the George F. Hixson medallion, notably for his efforts in support of the Junior Golf Tournament for young people. Throughout his years of involvement with the Kiwanis Club, he served as director and was credited several times for helping advance the organization's goals.

He was also an active member of the Wichita Executive Association and the Retired Business and Professional Club. Within the WSU community, he served both alumni and students as a university donor, a member of the Elliot School of Communication Endowment Advisory Council and as a member of the Alumni Association's board of directors.

Lawless and his wife, Anita (Irwin), have a son and one grandchild. Lawless died July 3 in Wichita. He was 83.
