Sweet ’70, BIO, ’72 M BIO, a Wichita physician and HIV/AIDS expert, established the award in 2005 to honor those who contribute significantly to the Wichita community. The Honeymans live in Wichita.*

Marshall K. McKee ’67, SEC ED, ’73 M SEC ED, retired as a major after serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-87. In the Air Force, he was a management engineering officer and ROTC associate professor of aerospace studies at the University of Nebraska. His career as an educator also included teaching middle school in Fairview Heights, Ill., and education courses at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. He lives in O’Fallon, Ill.

Allen R. Searles ’67, SOC, ’67 ANTHRO, is an independent federal contractor for the Social Security Administration, for which he serves as a vocational expert at disability hearings for the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review. He previously worked as a rehabilitation counselor and as a clinical professional counselor, and helped with the writing of Title I of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Searles, who served two years in the Army, lives in Lake Geneva, Wis.
John H. Shaw ’67, MUS ED, has retired from IBM as a systems engineer and from his work for Momentum Utilities in Sydney, Australia. Shaw, who has also been a church musician for 57 years, resides in Marietta, Ga.
Robert M. Smith ’67, SEC ED, has worked as a university faculty member and administrator, with the exception of a year as a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services fellow in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs. He has held positions at Wichita State, Princeton, the University of Tennessee at Martin, Slippery Rock University and the University of Tennessee, where he currently is special advisor to the president for talent and leadership development. Michael “Mike” J. Everhart ’69, BIO, ’73 M BIO, who is adjunct curator of paleontology at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., is the author of Oceans of Kansas: A Natural History of the Western Interior Sea, which won a Kansas Notable Book award. In July 2017, the University of Indiana Press will release a second print edition as well as a digital version of his book. He is a resident of Derby, Kan.

Cripe ’87, M MUS P, a U.S. Marine Corps master gunnery sergeant, is also a French horn player who joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in 1988 and was appointed principal French horn in 2004, section leader in 2014, and French horn/ euphonium section commander in 2015. As a member of the Marine Band, Cripe took part in the inauguration of President Donald Trump on Jan. 20, 2017. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams.
