The beginning of my term as WSU Alumni Association president was July 1, and what a beginning it was.
Our executive director of seven years, Brad Beets, resigned to pursue his calling in the ministry. Brad has been a gem for us, and now the board of directors has embarked on the process of finding his successor. We are in a strong position to hire a new director. The association is financially sound. Our staff are top-notch. Our board is not only active and capable, they are also energized and having fun. Wichita State continues to be an institution of which we can be so proud. We have updated the job description and are currently seeking applicants. Think about it: Whom do you know who would lead and manage the association for the benefit of alumni and the university?
Our future is also being shaped by the efforts of last year's president Terri Moses '80/90 and the members of our board of directors. They created a vision that the association would provide an opportunity for those who love WSU to connect with one another in vibrant and diverse ways, guided by principles of active participation, visibility in the community and pride and passion for WSU.
This year's board is continuing this strategic planning effort to develop objectives and action plans to guide the association for the next several years. Such healthy planning is helping us focus our priorities to best serve our alumni and our university.
And our third priority this fall is Rockin' the Roundhouse, slated for Nov. 6 at Charles Koch Arena. Sponsored jointly by the association and WSU Athletics, Rockin' the Roundhouse combines our Shocker Auction and Shocktacular, which was previously held by the athletics department. The evening will be simply spectacular.
I sure hope to see you there!
