thrown by the WSU Alumni Association.

While Wichita State students were celebrating the fall semester at Convocation 2007 and other seasonal collegiate gatherings, Shocker alumni were coming together Sat., Sept. 22 in the parking lot of the Woodman Alumni Center on campus to enjoy the early fall sunshine, two rock bands, food, drinks, one another — and the fact that “We’re not back to school!”

The name of the alumni bash was the idea of Collin Stieben ’00, an alumni association board member and one of the event’s volunteer organizers.

Some 150 attendees brought their own lawn chairs and kicked back with drinks from Pepsi and the House of Schwan and food from Fox and Hound Pub & Grille, Stroud’s Restaurant and Jimmy John’s Sandwiches to listen to the Wilcot, a band out of Joplin, Mo., followed by Wichita’s Nathan Kent Band with lead singer Nathan Mason. Joining Stieben as event volunteers were Frank ’68 and Ruth Chappell, Ginger Cox fs ’83, Grant Glasgow ’02, Maryon Habtemariam ’85/92, Courtney Landon, Lonie and Karen Stieben, and Greg Wilson ’75/79.

Among event attendees were Seth and Ericka ’04 Albin, Ryan and Suzanne Armeneariz, Aaron Hamilton ’97/03, Vic ’62 and Ruth Heckart, Dru Heffron ’06/07, Tyler Heffron ’02, Jeramy ’00 and Shannon Hurt ’03, Krista Mocaby ’04, Bernie ’61 and Alberta Nichols, Jessica Rajtar ’03, Zach Rathbun, Omar Rodriguez ’07, Jon Shaffer ’03, Martin Shetlar ’01, Jennie Snyder ’06, Don ’59 and Lynn ’64/92 Stephan, Stacey Storck and Roger Wallace ’87.
