Don’t touch this magazine! Yellow and Black Fever (YBF) has again broken out and is reaching epidemic proportions. The pages of this issue of The Shocker are teeming with the contagion that will only compound the infection.
Symptoms of YBF include swelling (with pride as you read about the accomplishments of your fellow alumni and your university), itching (to gather with other Shockers or get back on campus), emotional outbursts (“What a terrible call!”), watery eyes (when you hear the alma mater), copious perspiration (The score is tied!) and generalized dissociative thinking (Why is WuShock in my kitchen?). Don’t worry. While there is no cure for YBF, there are ways to deal with it. Here are a few suggestions:
• Come back to campus. Rockin’ the Roundhouse is right around the corner, Shocker volleyball is wildly exciting, and special campus tours can be easily booked.
• Volunteer. The WSU Alumni Association exists to serve WSU and you. There are many ways you can help, even if you are far away from campus. Alumni chapters can always use your participation. Local alumni can help with association events and projects (Shocker Honors Scholars Banquet, Senior Breakfast and the Drive Your Pride Shocker license plates are just a few).
• Travel. Your association has the cure for your YBF wanderlust. Does a jaunt with fellow Shockers to Australia and New Zealand sound fun? Check out that trip and other adventures.
YBF is one of the happy byproducts of being a proud Shocker. Your alumni association board and staff are the Hot Zone for YBF. It is a privilege and a ton of fun to work with such contagious people. See you on the Hill!
