Thinking of great experiences at Wichita State is easy for Julie King Gomez '85.
While working toward her bachelor’s degree in business administration, Gomez proved herself to be active on campus and a dedicated member of the university’s Gamma Xi chapter Alpha Phi. “When I was in college, I was very involved, very gung-ho,” she says. “And I knew after I graduated I would stay involved.”
Her years of dedication to Alpha Phi paid off handsomely this summer with her election to the Alpha Phi International Fraternity International Executive Board. “Most companies have boards of directors, that’s what this is like — we govern the fraternity in terms of policy and strategy,” she says.
She was elected, along with seven other board members at Alpha Phi’s biennial convention held June 28 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Board membership is on a completely voluntary basis, and members hold terms of two years.
Gomez, who lives and works in Saratoga, Calif., credits her experiences at WSU with laying the groundwork for success — it all begins when we join, she says.
She adds that she’s found Alpha Phi an organization that offers profound and lifelong opportunities for involvement. “Let’s just say that I have my hands full for the next few years,” she says. “And I will continue to always do something with the fraternity.”
