WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MAGAZINE
Spring 2002

Director's Corner

As I write this, I’ve just returned from the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Charles G. Koch Arena, which, along with its complementary buildings, will be known as the Levitt Sports Complex.

The reality and excitement of this Roundhouse Renaissance project had not truly sunk in for me until after the last men’s home basketball game on Feb. 25, when it was announced at game’s end that this was the last game to be played in Henry Levitt Arena. That announcement sent chills down my spine and brought back memories of fantastic games and of the many great players I saw play in Levitt over the years — Larry Bird, Antoine Carr, Xavier McDaniel, Cliff Levingston and too many others to list. I also remember my experiences running around the arena as WuShock for three years!

Now, with the construction work under way for the renovated arena, a new sense of excitement has begun as Wichita State moves into the future.
But the Roundhouse Renaissance is certainly not all we are proud of at Wichita State. This spring, enrollment at wsu is the highest since 1992, with more than 15,000 students. And for those of us living in the Wichita area, we have the privilege of seeing some of our great alumni, students and faculty in an inspiring series of television ads — making us proud to be “Thinkers, Doers, Movers and Shockers.”

Shocker Pride — wear it like your favorite shirt.

We have a great institution of  higher education in Wichita State University. Be very proud of it, and let the people around you know that you are one of the Thinkers, Doers, Movers and Shockers.

Have a wonderful spring, Shockers!
