Greg Boxberger There’s no place like home, says WSU graduate and cardiologist Greg Boxberger ’74.

Boxberger, an All-State high school basketball player, chose Wichita State after being recruited by then-WSU coach Gary Thompson.

Boxberger lived in Fairmount Towers, joined Phi Delta Theta fraternity and majored in biological sciences. “When I was a youngster, my father impressed on me the importance of education,” he says. “He wanted me to be a professional of some sort, either a doctor or a lawyer. I was a good student and medicine was something I became very interested in.”

After graduation, he went to the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he earned a medical degree in 1978. He then attended the University of Texas for his post-medical training before going to the University of Pittsburgh, for his sub-specialty training in cardiology.

He went into cardiology and private practice in Mobile, Ala., before coming back to Wichita in 1984 to join the Galichia Medical Group.

“Wichita seems like home to me,” Boxberger said. “Wichita has a lot of positives. I love the people. I have a great relationship with the university. Wichita’s a great mid-sized city.”
