President's Corner

BY TYLER HEFFRON '02 - ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

Reflecting back on the events of this fiscal year, it's certainly been a busy, exciting time at WSU — and at the association, which has had continued success with its many mission-serving events, including the We're Not Back to School Bash, the Shocker Honors Scholar Banquet, Homecoming and our annual 50-year class reunion.

We've also spent significant time planning for the future, including revising the association's strategic plan and establishing committees whose members will help plan membership initiatives and our centennial celebration in 2013. As an added bonus this March, the association rallied Shocker fans to Portland, Ore., to support the men's basketball team in the NCAA Tournament. What a great time!

As we end this fiscal year, we also say farewell to two of the association's strongest supporters, President Don Beggs and First Lady Shirley. They have truly been advocates for all WSU alumni, as you'll read about in our cover story, "Right Place, Right Time."

Our fy 2013 looks to be even busier and more exciting! We'll welcome a new President and First Lady to campus, John and Deborah Bardo; continue our mission-serving events; celebrate our association's 100th anniversary; and continue to cheer on our Shocker students, athletes, faculty and alums!

As my tenure as board president comes to an end, I'd like to give a special thanks for all the hard work done by the staff, alumni volunteers and members of the board and executive committee. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with such a great group of proud Shockers!
