Nearly 200 Shocker fans turned out May 1 for food, drink and fun at the alumni association's annual BAT (Baseball Alumni Tailgate) Party before heading over to Eck Stadium to cheer on WSU against Kansas State.
The crowd listened to a game preview from play-by-play veteran sports broadcaster Mike Kennedy '71, who reported that the team, although it has struggled this season, is a young one with much promise.
Yellow-and-black clothing was the order of the evening, and one future Shocker, Alexis Reiter, 4, danced under the yellow-and-white striped tent in sparkly WSU attire under the watchful eye of her godmother, Tara Brungardt, a Wichita State senior who's studying business.
Special thanks go to the House of Schwan and QuikTrip for their support of this annual alumni association event.
Other attendees included Hank Farha '51, Steve Rozell '73, Mike Babich '84, Brian Hickman '93, Jamee Sholtz '06 and Jackie Williams '67, who drove from Topeka to take in BAT festivities and the game.
"The game better not last 15 innings because I have to drive back tonight," Williams quipped, referencing WSU's April 24 marathon match against K-State.
The Shockers bested the Wildcats in that game, 9-7, and went on to win this one, 10-3, in front of a season-high crowd of 5,046.
