MEMBERS OF WOMEN UNITED FOR THE SHOCKERS – a group of 98 women each of whom has pledged support to the WSU Alumni Association, its mission and operations by contributing to the Women United endowed fund – came together for two quite different functions in September and October.
On Sept. 1, WU members and guests enjoyed hearing the inside scoop about Shocker baseball from head coach Todd Butler and six baseball student-athletes at Eck Stadium’s Champions Club.
Butler’s wife, Melissa, also got in on the action, sharing a few stories about what it’s really like being the wife of a college baseball coach. Members attending included Pamela Clancy-Ammar ’80, Gloria Farha Flentje, Jacque Kouri, Lynn Stephan ’64/92 and Sherl Weatherbee.
On Oct. 24, WU members again assembled on campus. They were welcomed by WSU President John Bardo and Deborah Bardo ’75/77 into their home for hors d’oevres and drinks, before going to the Ulrich Museum, where Bob Workman ’78, museum director, gave a behind-the-scenes tour and talk about the five-year, $2-million conservation of one of the museum’s most iconic artworks: Miró’s Venetian glass and marble mosaic mural Personnages Oiseaux, “Bird People.” Among the attendees were Paula Alefs, Cindy Carnahan ’73, Missy Cohlmia ’74, Kate Taylor and Betty Troutman ’78.
