Shockers headed out to Sprint Plaza, along One Sporting Way in Kansas City, Kan., for soccer, food and fun. Attendees came early to tailgate with WuShock before cheering on Sporting KC to a win over the San Jose Quakes the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 23. Marc ’93 and Angie ’02 Ballenger, Emily Blount ’16, Steve ’76 and Wilma Hart, Doug ’89 and Robyn ’92 Schmidt, Jeff and Katie ’99 Sparks, Lois Tatro, and Julie Ybarra ’09 were among the Shocker crowd.

Co-hosted by the WSU College of Fine Arts and the WSU Alumni Association, the WSU Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series event “Dean Hargrove and Friends” attracted a Shocker crowd to the Wichita Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The Best in Community Policing
Tuesday, Dec. 13; 6 p.m. — Building Relationships: Community Policing, featuring Wichita Police Department Chief Gordon Ramsay, with Michael Birzer ’89/94, Wendell Nicholson ’92 and Paige Keller ’16, Marcus Welcome Center. The WSU Distinguished Speaker series event begins with a wine and cheese reception before a presentation by Chief Ramsay and a panel discussion on the importance of community policing.

Shockers Forever
Shockers Forever, the WSUAA’s student alumni organization, is partnering with WSU Career Services on a series of young alumni networking events called Shocker Connect. The first Shocker Connect get-together is being planned for the spring 2017 semester.
Led by student alumni board officers Jared Santos, president; Margy Long, vice president; Kayla Haase, secretary; Alyssa Ward, director of outreach; Ashlyn Funston, director of traditions; Heba Madi, director of marketing; and members-at-large Robert Castleberry and Tim Eichler, Shockers Forever is busy organizing activities for Homecoming 2017, the largest annual event that the group hosts.
Set for Monday, Jan. 30 through Saturday, Feb. 4, Homecoming 2017 will feature a weeklong slate of activities for both Wichita State students and alumni.
