WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY ALUMNI MAGAZINE
Spring 2006

Director's Corner

BY DEBBIE KENNEDY '94

I feel it when I talk with students decked out in yellow and black and standing in long lines for men’s basketball tickets. I feel it when I see (and hear!) more than a thousand basketball fans come together at Shocker Station in St. Louis for a pep rally before an MVC Tournament game. I feel it in the excitement generated by all of our Shocker sports.

But that’s far from the extent of it. I feel it when our colleges, departments and professional societies honor the best students, the best alumni, the best practitioners in their fields. I felt it when the association’s own awards program passed an important milestone this January: its 50th year of celebrating Shocker achievement and service.

I feel it when I watch the faces of our breakfast series attendees as they listen intently to our distinguished alumni speakers, who collectively represent just about every academic discipline taught at WSU.

I feel it while walking on our beautiful main campus or exploring our new West Campus. I’ll definitely feel it later this spring when members of Wichita State’s Class of 2006, their eyes bright with excitement, become our newest alumni.

Shocker Pride is what I’m feeling, coming from all parts of this great university and its alumni association.
