Director's Corner

BY DEBORAH KENNEDY '94

This spring and summer, I had the pleasure of interacting with many of our constituents at several alumni events, where I saw the mission of the WSU Alumni Association come to life.

The first of those events was an association-hosted series of tailgate parties held prior to WSU’s games at the NCAA baseball regional in Stillwater, Okla., in May. Next was our “We’re Not Back to School Bash” in August. On both occasions, those who attended represented a wide range of ages and interests — but all of them demonstrated a love of Wichita State, proving that involvement with their university is not confined to any particular group.

We want the association to be a focal point for all of WSU’s alumni and friends, and to that end, we are renewing our commitment to be even more involved with campus groups and organizations, and our own chapters and societies, including Shockers Forever, a group made up of current students. We want our students to be aware of and involved with the association long before they graduate, so it will be a natural progression for them to stay involved as alumni.

I also want you to know that I feel we have a tremendous staff of hard working individuals, who not only treat one another, and you, with professional courtesy, but who have developed a sense of camaraderie in trying to make this organization one in which you can be proud. As we move full scale into the 2008-09 academic year, please accept my invitation to join us at our next event — where you will receive a warm Shocker Welcome Home.

What's Your Favorite RSC Memory?

For the past 50 years, Wichita State's Rhatigan Student Center has served as the heart of campus. It would be nearly impossible to be a WSU alum and not have used the center in some memorable way.
